Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Burrow is likely the only rookie QB to even be considered in re-draft leagues this season and I can understand why. He may be a rookie but he'll also have one of the most loaded offenses in football with AJ Green, Tyler Boyd, Tee Higgins, and Joe Mixon out of the backfield. I wouldn't want him as my only QB but he's a solid upside pick. For a short minute, it seemed like Chase Edmonds was going to be the next big thing but as soon as the Cardinals signed Kenyan Drake, that dream disappeared. While the Arizona backfield has been highly productive and will use multiple backs, Edmonds' still remains in handcuff territory with close to no stand-alone value.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
I'm on Team Burrow. He has the talent, system, weapons, and game flow forever in his favor. Are we about to see the best rookie season by a QB ever? Mabes.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Burrow was overwhelmingly productive in 2019. He proved adept at full-field reads at LSU, running a system that has a lot in common with NFL spread offenses. His best attribute might be the habit of staying calm and moving subtly in muddy pockets.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
The 2019 National Champion was a worthy number one pick. While I believe there's a risk he's a one-year wonder and I worry a little about the conversion of his skill set to the NFL, ultimately he joins a sensational offense with a heap of long term upside. He starts his NFL career with Joe Mixon, AJ Green, Tyler Boyd, John Ross, Auden Tate and new recruit Tee Higgins surrounding him and that's a darn good support cast. Combine them with the awful defense and you've got an attack ready for a season full of shootouts. Moving forward, the hope is that the O-line improves and the team as a whole improves, but even in the short-term, Burrow is a great, young fantasy prospect. I'd happily take him as my starting QB.Chase Edmonds has shown what he can do when given the opportunity and given Kenyan Drake has never held a full workload for a full season. That makes Edmonds a valuable backup. I don't buy the Eno Benjamin hype and neither should you, Edmonds is where the value lies.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Trusting a rookie quarterback in fantasy? Nonsense. Now? After we practically had no offseason? It sounds crazy, and it probably is. However, I don't know if I've seen a quarterback with Burrow's confidence and swag come into the league in a long time. He's also walking into a situation where he has one of the best wide receiver depth charts in the league (when healthy). The offense that Zac Taylor ran last year presented plenty of opportunity, as Andy Dalton finished with the 12th most expected fantasy points despite missing three full games. He threw the ball at least 36 times in 11-of-13 games, including three games with 50-plus attempts. The offensive line is a problem, though it helps he'll get last year's first-round pick Jonah Williams back at left tackle. While the pass attempts and talent at wide receiver are great, what should attract you to Burrow is his willingness to run with the ball. Sure, he broke records as a passer at LSU, but he also rushed for nearly 800 yards and 12 touchdowns over the last two years. That adds breakout potential to a quarterback, so when you combine that with his arm talent, he makes for an ideal QB2 in fantasy. The Bengals defense is in a complete rebuild mode, and while they've added talent this offseason, it'll take time for them to come together. They allowed 26.2 points per game last year (8th most), so if they continue to struggle, Burrow could become 2020's version of Jameis Winston. There are some who believe Edmonds is the surefire handcuff to Kenyan Drake, though I'm not entirely sure of that, as Eno Benjamin is someone who can play. Sure, he fell to the seventh round, but it's not like Edmonds is a can't-miss player. We do know the Cardinals starting position is very valuable, so once we know which player is the handcuff, they should have bench priority in case an injury should arise.
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
Red rifle is out, Joe Cool is in. Burrow has enough firepower to make it but does he have the line to get him enough protection?
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Burrow has a rough schedule to start out the season, but he's going to be something worth starting every single week towards the latter half of the year. I'm expecting Burrow to finish within the top-12 QBs for fantasy football when it's all said and done.Edmonds is the backup to Kenyan Drake, which is a super valuable role for fantasy football. He's unlikely to make any sort of impact on his own, but Edmonds should easily be a top-20 RB each week if Drake were to miss time with an injury.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Bengals OC Brian Callahan has been impressed by Joe Burrow's ability to understand what adjustments need to be made for each play during offseason meetings. - Duh, of course he's going to say that...
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Edmonds enters the season in a familiar spot - as a fairly decent handcuff who could have enormous value (such as in Week 7 against the Giants last year) if the starter gets injured. Absent an injury to Kenyan Drake, Edmonds should see only a handful of touches per game and provide little fantasy value. If Drake does get injured, however, Edmonds has the chance to excel, given the Cardinals' addition of DeAndre Hopkins likely opening up running lanes, along with another year of growth from Kyler Murray. He's worth drafting as a handcuff in deeper formats.
Tal Malachovsky
The Fantasy Scout
Joe Burrow has a lot to live up to being the first overall pick in 2020's Draft. He's accurate, and decisive. If I can describe him in one word, it would be precise. He keeps his eyes downfield, and he can move enough to avoid tackles. I would suggest he keeps to evasive movements in the pocket, instead of running the ball downfield. Leave that to your extremely talented running back, Joe Mixon. With AJ Green, Tyler Boyd, John Ross, and now Tee Higgins too, he has a ton of explosive talent to make the plays for him. So, he doesn't need to leave the pocket. Just do what you do best, and throw the ball exactly where it needs to go, make good decisions, and win games. The offensive line is the biggest concern, but at least you know Burrow will get the ball out quickly. From a redraft fantasy perspective, they may be playing from behind a lot, which gives the offense more fantasy value. So, I could see him being a really decent pick at the end of drafts as a backup, or even a flyer, especially if the schedule is conducive to a shootout in the first game, from a streaming QB perspective. The only downside is you're not going to get a lot of rushing points, and I suspect not many rushing TD's...not that he's not capable, but he's so precise, that they shouldn't need to risk his body like that. The question is, how will the coaching staff put together this offense. Let's see how they'll use him once the preseason comes around. To be continued...
