Derek Lofland FantasyPros | The big concern for Carson is going to be 2018 first round pick Rashaad Penny's role in the offense. The Seattle offense runs the ball enough to support two running backs, but Carson is hardly a guarantee to keep the bell cow role for the entire 2019 season. | Fournette was extremely frustrating, as he battled injuries, suspension, a bad attitude and inconsistent production. He's a low-end RB2 that must prove that he can be a bell cow back in Jacksonville. |
Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | There are a lot of reasons to like Carson. Looking at how he finished the season, it's hard to not like him. From Week 12 on, he finished as the No. 4 fantasy running back behind only Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, and Saquon Barkley. While Rashaad Penny is still there (and a former first-round pick), Mike Davis exited town, leaving behind plenty of touches for Penny. While Carson may not have the upside of others who are used in the pass-game consistently, he should be a solid RB2 provided he's healthy. This, of course, is a concern after hearing Carson "had a little work done" on his knee this offseason, so stay tuned for updates | Everyone remembers what they last saw, which is why Fournette is dropping down draft boards. The last time fantasy owners saw him play, he totaled just 126 rushing yards and one touchdown over his last three games. What they don't know is that the Jaguars offensive line was missing 4-of-5 starters at the end of the year. Fournette is locked into 20 touches per week, which is extremely odd to find at the start of the third-round, which is where you can get him 90 percent of the time |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | R. Penny apologists need to understand that Carson is exactly the kind of between the tackles, chain-moving workhorse that SEA wants to hitch its wagon to - and now it wants to use him more in the passing game too | I'm lower than the industry on Fournette by a long shot - I just don't like the history of soft tissue injuries, the punishing rush style (he too has to absorb what he dishes out) and the suspect O-line in front of him |
Kevin Roberts Breaking Football | It sounds like Carson is far and away the top guy in Seattle. He lacks flash, but he was the 15th best fantasy back in 2018. We can't ignore that. | Fournette's talent and role remain underrated. He needs to be more efficient, but perhaps a quarterback that isn't horrendous can help that. |
Dan Harris FantasyPros | Carson wasn't even expected to be the starting running back last year, let alone be a reliable weekly running back option in fantasy like he was. But after 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns, he came into camp this year as the clear starter. That role has only been solidified, with Rashaad Penny reportecly falling further behind Carson in the Seahawks' eyes according to beat writers. With Mike Davis gone, Carson's role could grow even more. If he can get more involved in the passing game, he could have RB1 upside, but draft him as a reliable RB2 for now. | Between injuries and ineffectiveness, things were trending down as last season wore on. But all the signs are there for a bounceback. Fournette dropped significant weight this offseason, and the offense should be a bit more explosive with Blake Bortles out and Nick Foles in. Fournette has been more involved in the passing game this preseason, so fantasy owners could be looking at a huge bounceback effort. That's assuming Fournette avoids injury, which has been difficult for him to do throughout his young career. |
Kevin Wheeler Draftwize | SEA RBs scored 352 FP (Std), 385 (half-PPR), 418 (PPR) last year. If Carson sees 67% = 236 (RB6 last year), 258 (RB6), 280 (RB6) If he sees 60% = 211 (RB8), 231 (RB9), 251 (RB9) 55% = 194 (RB11), 212 (RB12), 230 (RB12) Last year he scored 53%, 51% and 49% respectively. @4for4_John In 2018, the Seahawks had the highest run ratio with 55.6%. It was the highest in the #NFL since 2012 when the Seahawks led the league with 56.96%. Surprisingly enough though, Chris Carson didn't have a top five game in 0.5 formats will Week 16. @TheFFRealist | In 2018, Fournette ranked 12th in fantasy points per game (15.1) and seventh in touches per game (19.4). Leonard Fournette is going to get a lot of opportunity in DeFilippo's scheme. "I'll know a little bit more after this week in terms of how many plays he gets winded and all those things in a game-like atmosphere," DeFilippo said of the third-year running back. "But I know Leonard's goals. Leonard's goal is to be the best back in this league, and unique star players play a lot of football. So, to me, he needs to play and so that's where we're at with that." Jaguars.com |
Bobby Sylvester FantasyPros | Carson is the ultimate boom or bust running back this season. Seattle may very well lead the league in carries again this season and Carson is about as efficient as they come. The concern, however, is that his knee will cause Carson to miss a few games or that Penny will play so well that he cuts into the workload. These are enough to keep him outside RB1 territory but barely. | Fournette was inefficient last year but we can chalk that up to awful quarterback play and all the injuries on the offensive line. What it truly comes down to here is whether or not he can stay on the field. If he can, Fournette should lead the league in touches and would have no trouble reaching double-digit TDs on his way to a top 8 fantasy RB finish. |
Jason Petropoulos BRoto Fantasy | Only six RBs had more rushes than Carson last season - behind Zeke, Barkley, DJ, Gurley, AP, and Jordan Howard (Very unlikely a lot of those guys make that list this year). In Seattle, Carson only received 55% of the team's carries. In comparison, Penny and Davis saw 19% and 26% last year. With Davis gone and not a real third option, why are we assuming Penny is going to take all of Davis' work? Or that He'll take Carson's job? If this becomes a 60-65/35-40 split, Carson will see MORE work than he saw last year. He's a steal at his ADP. | Fournette's backups - Alfred Blue, Thomas Rawls, and Benny Cunningham - aren't putting fear in anyone's heart. Health is the only concern here, as Fournette will see the volume necessary to make him a high-end RB2 when healthy. He's currently a nice value pick. |
Michael Petropoulos BRoto Fantasy | All about health for Fournette. He was the #4 overall pick, so the Jaguars are really trying to justify that pick. He will be fed early and often and will be well worth his ADP if he stays healthy, but assuming his health is likely a fool's errand.
Sean Koerner The Action Network | knee surgery is OK. may hold Penny off again. massive upside still in heavy run scheme Brian Schottenheimer
Nick Zylak Fantasy Football Advice | Chris Carson put together an excellent second season last year, posting a 247/1151/9 stat line and finishing as the RB 15 in half ppr scoring. Had he played a full 16 weeks then he likely would have finished as a RB 1. This season I do expect him to get less carries. The Seahawks used a first round pick on Penny, and they're going to use him. He was better than people think last season, and teams love to be right with their early round picks. That by no means makes Carson a bad pick. The Seattle is going to run the ball a ton, so he can still pay off his ADP even if Penny gets a lot of work. I just prefer waiting and grabbing Penny later in drafts if I'm targeting this backfield. | I've never been a fan of drafting Fournette. He's an extremely inefficient running back, and one day the Jaguars are going to realize that they're better without him. He's averaged 3.7 YPC over his career. Last season he generated a pathetic 0.99 yards created per carry, ranked 49th in breakaway percentage, 49th in elusiveness rating, 53rd in yards per carry after contact, and recorded just 9 carries of greater than 10 yards, and gained fewer than 3 yards on an incredible 51% of his carries. The Jaguars would win more games this season if they cut Leonard Fournette. The issue is that they won't. Then invested a high pick on him, so they're going to use him. And despite not being a good RB, he's going to produce for fantasy while he's on the field. Oh and that's another thing. He's missed 34% of his career games due to injuries and suspensions. He's suffered a knee bruise, multiple ankle strains, a quad bruise, and two pulled hamstrings. As you can probably tell, I don't like Fournette. So it pains me so much to say that you can actually draft him. There's absolutely no talent behind him, and the Jaguars organization has given me no reason to believe they will suddenly become competent. Fournette can be taken in the second round because of the volume he's set to receive, and the fact that no one will challenge him for touches |
