Lineups
I was down on Chris Carson earlier this offseason as I was worried about the presence of Rashaad Penny and Carlos Hyde. However, Penny is going to start the season on the PUP without a clear timetable and it's become clear throughout the offseason that this is still Carson's backfield to lose with Hyde serving as the backup. Assuming he isn't plagued by the same uncharacteristic fumbling issue from last season, Carson should be set for at least a 60-65% workload in one of the most run-heavy teams in the NFL.Le'Veon Bell's first season in New York did not go according to plan as he rushed for under 800 yards and just 3 touchdowns despite playing 15 games. The offensive line hasn't really gotten markedly better this offseason and I don't expect a massive improvement in the rushing efficiency for Bell. However, he had 66 receptions last season and his heavy pass-catching involvement makes him a safe, low-end RB2.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Carson was off to a promising start as a rookie in '17 before breaking his leg in a Week 4 game against the Colts. He has bounced back with two straight seasons of more than 90 total yards per game. In '19, he took on a bigger role in Seattle's passing attack. For the majority of Bell's time in Pittsburgh, he benefited from the Steelers' offensive line consistently opening huge holes. That wasn't the case last year, as the Jets' atrocious line was unable to block effectively for Bell's blend of patience and twitch.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
The Seahawks running back room remains a nightmare for fantasy. There's clearly enormous upside available but it's an annual mess of the fumble master Chris Carson, injury prone Rashaad Penny and now the fun sponge Carlos Hyde. The common fantasy wisdom in these situations is to take the cheapest option but Rashaad Penny looks likely to start the season on IR and Carlos Hyde clearly isn't taking the starting role so it's really Carson that's the only valid option. If Carson gets the volume he enjoyed for most of 2019, he's a non-PPR monster with 20+ carries and 100+ yards most weeks. He's even starting to improve in the receiving game and has legitimate upside as a true workhorse in this elite Seahawks offense. If only the risk wasn't there. I'm taking him late in the 2nd round as a high upside option to pair with a veteran like Leveon Bell or Todd Gurley in the 3rd or 4th.Le'Veon Bell once again proved that situation often trumps talent for running backs, as a mediocre O-line and Adam Gase led to a Derrick Henry level of volume (10 fewer touches) for 100 fewer fantasy points. Bell has massive room for improvement though, as he has no true competition (sorry La'Mical) and huge regression upside. Bell's never been a high TD guy or overly efficient but 4 yards per carry and 8 total TDs isn't an unreasonal expectation and that would mean a top 10 finish. Bump those up a little and he becomes a league winner. He's a great third round gamble you can pair with any of the riskier RBs like Fournette, Drake, Carson, CEH and Sanders.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
If we knew Carson would be healthy the entire season, he'd be ranked as a top-12 running back. But we don't. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Seahawks backfield, as Carson is coming off a season-ending hip injury, while Rashaad Penny is recovering from a torn ACL, and they drafted DeeJay Dallas in the fourth round of the draft. You'll want to pay close attention to this backfield as we approach fantasy draft season. You're going to see Bell fall down draft boards this year, and further than he should. That's odd for me to say, as Bell was someone I was avoiding like the plague in drafts. The difference? Expectations. Playing him as your first-round pick in your RB1 slot was never something anyone should've expected, especially behind that offensive line and in Gase's offense. While he's still stuck in Gase's offense, the offensive line was upgraded quite a bit this offseason, which should allow Bell more room to work. Even if he repeated his 2019 performance, that's RB2 production. There were just 11 running backs who produced RB2 or better numbers more often than him. Sure, he didn't have a ton of weekly upside, but he was safe. Now coming off the board outside the top three rounds, Bell is a value play.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Hip injury is definitely something to follow-> Actually didn't need surgery for it, is expected to make a full recovery. Meanwhile, there is talk of the PUP list for Rashaad Penny, and bring Marshawn Lynch back, all good news for Chris CarsonPut up a RB1-2 point total at the 13th highest rate, despite only 4 total TDs on 311 touches, and a bottom 3 run blocking unit. Only had 9 10 zone attempts, which lines up with a 31st ranked scoring offense. Will it all be that bad again?
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
Carson is a bit overlooked this season. Seattle remains committed to him and he should have another breezy RB2 season this year.Bell mentioned he's in better football shape, let's hope that's true. If Gase feeds him in the passing game he will return RB2 numbers.
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
Every season we say he won't be the RB1 by end of season and here we are. Again, the Seahawks are run heavy and Carson is an integral piece of the offense. I love his value in fantasy drafts as he always falls to the right spot each season.*Adam Gase
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
With Penny likely headed to PUP to start the season this leaves the opportunity for Carson to be the workhorse again. In a solid offense and doesn't offer the receiving upside we are necessarily looking for, but at his price he's a value.Bell had workhorse touches last year, but was inefficient in a bad offense. Year 2 with the Jets should allow for improvement in that category and he should still be a massive focal point in the offense. Not much competition and Bell has proven in the past to be one of the best backs in the league.

96.9 YPG over past 2 seasons ranks 8th-best among RBs in that span, and he's also chipped in 9 TDs in each campaign - expected to be fully recovered from hip injury by Week 1Volume remains elite, but it's going to take a leap of faith that improvements to the NYJ O-line and Bell's conditioning will catapult him back into the RB1 class

The Seahawks backfield is never an easy one to figure out but over the last two seasons, Carson has proven to be the superior back to Rashad Penny. While he will never get a full workload, I expect Carson to see the majority of the work, especially near the goal line. After a disappointing 2019 season, Bell is in need of a major bounce-back season which could be difficult considering he's playing on the Jets offense. I don't see Bell getting too many opportunities near the goal which means he'll have to rely heavily on his receiving numbers to be worthy of his ADP.

Carson is a RB2 coming off a season with 1,496 yards from scrimmage and 9 touchdowns. The only downside was his 7 fumbles. Seattle could be a RBBC this year, but if Carson can hang onto the ball, he is a solid RB2.Bell should benefit from the Jets adding T Mekhi Becton and WR Denzel Mims in the NFL Draft. They also added RB La'Mical Perine in the 4th round and RB Frank Gore in free agency, but neither should not be a huge threat to Bell's touches this season.

Carson is a bit of a question mark for 2020 at this point due to his recovery from a hip injury. While all signs point to him being ready to start week one, we need to be prepared to shift as new news comes out. Right now, drafting Carson at his current ADP is certainly risky.Adam Gase seems intent on taking the ball out of Bell's hands and splitting the work among his other running backs. Frank Gore and Lamical Perine are both going to eat into Bell's touches and it's going to limit his production. Bell is nothing more than a low-end RB2 in this Jets offense, despite being one of the more talented running backs in the NFL.

Last year there were only 3 RBs to have 240+ rushing attempts and 75+ targets. I think we would be expecting some "positive" regression for Bell, especially in the TD department, but it seems that Gase is a subscriber to the "RB's don't matter" philosophy. I expect Gore, Perine or one of the journeymen the Jets have horded to cut into Bell's upside.

Received a huge vote of confidence with the Seahawks surprisingly avoiding any major backfield moves in FA or the Draft. His fractured hip could hamper him all offseason and potentially to begin 2020 though, but the team likely would've made more RB moves if they were truly worried. If healthy.. no one was more consistent in 2019, with nearly 90% of Carson's active games finishing as a RB1 or RB2.One of the biggest risers of this offseason. Line was a major Draft and Free Agency focus, and Mims provides some more field stretching help. Could go a long way to a Bell rebound, although Gore has a history under Gase and could carve out an annoying GL role
