FantasyPros
You can try to make the argument that McCaffrey shouldn't go No. 1 overall this year, but you'd lose the argument. Outside of saying, "running backs don't repeat as the top option," there's nothing that should suggest McCaffrey won't. He's not just a running back. He's a wide receiver. He scored 182.5 half-PPR points through the air alone, which would've been the No. 20 wide receiver in fantasy last year, ahead of Stefon Diggs. Even if McCaffrey simply stopped playing football in Week 12, he would've finished as the No. 1 running back by a massive 22.1 PPR points. The new offense and improved quarterback play shouldn't hurt at all. There's just one running back who's had a higher "boom" percentage (25-plus PPR points) than Kamara over the course of their careers, and that's Christian McCaffrey. Kamara has now topped 25 PPR points in 14 of his 45 career games, which is quite ridiculous. His 2019 season was easily his worst to date, though he still finished as the RB12 despite missing two games. The Saints offense continues to groove, and though Drew Brees is still playing great football, his arm strength is declining, which could lead to more targets than every for Kamara, who's averaged 6.7 targets per game over the first three years in a Saints uniform. Provided he doesn't get hurt, Kamara is a near-lock to finish as a top-six running back.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Was just 3rd RB in past decade to reach 400 touches, helping propel him to 2nd-best PPR season by RB in NFL historyTop 4 RB in each of 1st 2 NFL seasons before health and loss of QB Brees for 5 games helped sink him to RB No. 9 in '19 - give him a mulligan
Elliot Berkovits
Pack to the Future
Plain and simple, Christian McCaffrey is the best player in fantasy football. He's an elite runner of the football and yet his pass-catching skills are what's most impressive. Two consecutive seasons with over 100 receptions, that's unheard of at the RB position. He's the clear cut #1 overall pick in all formats.Kamara seems like one of the safest players in fantasy as long as he's on the field. Three consecutive years recording 81 receptions is incredible and Drew Brees is going to continue to target him constantly. My only fears are injury-related. If Kamara plays 16 games in 2020 he will easily finish as a top-5 back.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
No brainer first pick. Ceiling of overall RB1 and floor of overall RB2.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
The lead Saints RB in games Bridgewater started last season averaged 22 PPR PPG. CMC is going to be fine no matter who is throwing him the ball and will continue to see an unbelievable amount of work. The Panthers' already bad D has lost Luke Keuchly and now Matt Rhule, an offensive-minded coach, is taking over. Rhule's teams struggled his first season with Temple and Baylor, so if that carries over we'll see a lot of CMC garbage-time work.
Justin Dodds
Locked In Football
The 1.01 in pretty much every format. No need to debate.Despite going from 18 TDs to 6 TDs, Kamara still finished as the RB9 in FP/g in half PPR and the RB8 in FP/g in PPR while playing through injuries. If you give him the same amount of TDs he got in his rookie year (13), he would've gotten 42 (7x6) more fantasy points which would've put his half PPR total at 250 fpts, good for RB7 in half PPR and RB5 in PPR. Kamara with those totals would've averaged 17.9 fpts (250/14) and 21.4 fpts (300/14). Those totals would've been good for RB5 (0.5PPR) and RB2 (PPR). I expect Kamara to have closer to 13 TDs rather than 6 TDs, so use your first round pick on him confidently.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
McCaffrey would be a RB1 if he didn't catch a single pass, he finished 2019 with 1,387 yards rushing and 15 rushing touchdowns. When you add in 116 receptions for 1,005 yards and 4 more touchdowns, you have the overall number one RB.Kamara was pretty disappointing in 2019, considering he was a Top-3 fantasy pick. He finished the year with 1,330 yards from scrimmage, but just 6 touchdowns. I think he is likely to rebound in 2020 and he should have RB1 value.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Christian McCaffrey was spectacular in 2019. With over 1000 yards rushing and receiving along with 100+ receptions and 19 total TDs combined for a historic season. CMC may not reach the same heights in 2020, but he's still the clear number one overall pick in most formats. There is some risk with McCaffrey in the form of workload-induced injury, his team's awful defence and overall regression. These are legitimate fears but they're far from unique to the Panthers RB and there's no way you should be taking anyone but this guy No. 1 overall.Alvin Kamara had an absolute shocker in 2019. Despite no change in his rushing and receiving opportunities, Kamara dropped five points a game. There are myriad reasons for this massive change but most of them suggest a rebound is on the cards. Kamara battled knee and ankle injuries throughout last season and these really lowered his usually incredible efficiency and effectiveness. His TD numbers dropped by nearly a TD a game as well, which played a significant part in his drop in points. These should mostly regress, but it is worth noting his red zone looks halved last year and that will have an impact if things. Ultimately he's a great rebound candidate but he does come with some very real risk that places him clearly behind the elite three of CMC, Saquon and Zeke, battling with Cook in their own tier.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
McCaffrey is looking to repeat as the overall PPR RB1 for the first time since 2002-2003 Priest Holmes. McCaffrey had more yards before contact (635) than all but four ENTIRE TEAMS of running backs in 2019. He averaged a robust 2.21 yards before contact, which is something I'd say is unsustainable. @MikeTagliereNFL xxAlvin Kamara scored 106 less PPR points in 2019 than 2018. 84 of them were due to him only finding the endzone 6 times instead of 18 in 2018. -1,592 yards in from scrimmage in 2018 and 1,330 in 2019 -Caught the same amount of passes at 81 -Only had 2 TDs heading into Week 16
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
While it might sound absurd to say, there's a legitimate path for CMC to finish with more receptions this year than what he had in 2019. The Panthers are entering a rebuild and their defense saw a lot of key pieces leave for various reasons. They're going to be relying heavily on rookies and this may lead to the offense needing to keep them in games with more passing volume. If that's the case, McCaffrey's likely going to be second in line behind DJ Moore. With all that said, CMC's as easy of a pick as they come at the 1.01.Alvin Kamara saw his total touchdowns drop from 18 in 2018 to 5 in 2019. This was, in large part, due to nagging injuries that he dealt with all season long. Assuming that Kamara's fully healthy again, he's an amazing bounce-back candidate and could even go off the board in the first three picks of your draft.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
He's really been the same, consistent player since entering the league. 725-900 yards on the ground. 81 receptions EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR. The ups and downs have been based on health, TDs, and how productive he can be through the passing game.
Steven Pintado
The Fantasy Coaches
Pretty simple guys: Best Overall non QB player. Even with a bad QB, he was still able to dominate the fantasy world. As long as his body can stay healthy he should repeat for the year.
