Lineups
The record-breaking, all-time receiving performance by Michael Thomas over the past couple of seasons has been astonishing. He's quite clearly been the best receiver in the league as of late and he even proved he can succeed without Drew Brees last season. The Thomas and Brees combination is the most productive in the league by various metrics. Don't be afraid to invest a 1st-round pick in what should be another phenomenal season for Thomas.Few players elicit the oohs and aahs in a draft room when their name gets called quite like CEH. He's arguably the sexiest pick in fantasy drafts right now as the de facto workhorse in an Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes offense. After Damien Williams opted out of the season, the Chiefs have not looked to add any proven veteran talent. It's clear this is Clyde's role to lose and with his talent in this opportunity, he's going to be a fantasy superstar.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
CEH has insane upside in Kansas City's system, but the infatuation is a little out of control. I'll drop him slightly in my rankings, as I much prefer to land him in round two than round one.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Edwards-Helaire was probably set to be overvalued in fantasy drafts, but now that Damien Williams has opted out, he immediately vaults into reliable RB1 territory. The Chiefs spent their first-round pick on Edwards-Helaire and, regardless, pretty much any replacement value running back can find fantasy gold in Kansas City's system. There are still other running backs on the roster who will garner touches, including Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson, and because the Chiefs' offense is so dynamic, there is no reason for them to run their rookie back into the ground. Still, without Damien Williams, Edwards-Helaire should get the majority of the touches in the backfield, and that puts him in firm RB1 territory, full stop.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
After a remarkably steady 2017 during which he only twice failed to reach 50 receiving yards in a game but only twice went over 100 receiving yards, Thomas had five 100-yard games in 2018. He then exploded last season, setting a single season NFL record with 149 receptions. Although his numbers are bound to regress, it won't be enough to knock him from the top WR spot.Edwards-Helaire runs with the kind of balance that allows him to bounce off tacklers, and he has the twitch and quickness to pick up a chunk of yardage after he's broken a tackle. He should be able to excel as a rookie in Kansas City's high-powered offense.
Dalton Kates
APEX Fantasy Leagues
Elite WR with elite target share, elite QB play and elite efficiency in a top offense. No brainer top WR.Top draft pick by the Chiefs. Very good receiver for a RB who should fit perfectly into the Chiefs system. Andy Reid has had an RB1 in over 75% of his coaching seasons.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
I'm not sure how many realize how rare Thomas' season was in 2019. He saw 185 targets on a team that threw the ball just 581 times. That's a ridiculous 31.8 percent target share. Just so you know, it's rare for a receiver to see a 25 percent target share. I've already stated in the Drew Brees paragraph that I expect this offense to throw just a bit less in 2020. Initial projections have them around 560 pass attempts, so bringing that down to even a 28 percent target share would force Thomas to lose about 28 targets. You can see why a repeat of last year's numbers are unlikely, especially when you factor in the arrival of Emmanuel Sanders as a rock-solid No. 2 receiver who'll garner more targets than Ted Ginn and/or Tre'Quan Smith would've. Still, Thomas is my WR1 heading into the season, because outside of injury, he's projected as my top receiver by a full 15 half-PPR points.I had Edwards-Helaire as my top running back in this year's class due to the way he fits the NFL today. He's a true three-down back who can catch 80-plus passes out of the backfield, while running for 1,000-plus yards. Landing with the Chiefs was a dream scenario, especially in the first round. Over the last seven years, running backs who've been drafted in the first round have averaged 280.7 touches in year one. 75 percent of them have finished as an RB2 or better. Don't think this is Darwin Thompson all over again, as he was a sixth-round pick last year, and those average just 29.8 touches in year one. This is Edwards-Helaire's backfield after Andy Reid said he's better than Brian Westbrook on film. You don't take those players off the field very often. He's worth a second-round pick and would be a steal in the third round.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Behind Davante Adams, you won't find a safer WR than Michael Thomas. He's essentially a lock for 100 receptions and has improved his TD numbers scoring nine in each of the last two seasons. If you're looking to go WR in the first, you can't go wrong with Thomas.I was excited about Edwards-Helaire before Williams opted out, now, I'm all in. He's about to enter the best offense in football which will give him scoring opportunities on a weekly basis. Dating back to 1999, there have been five RB's coached by Andy Reid who finished inside the top-10 in their first year with him. Could Edwards-Helaire make it six? I think so.
Frank Bonincontri
Fantasy Wire HQ
WR1 Set it & forget itThe Twitter anointed, chosen one, the almighty, the hall of fame back who hasn't played a down yet. Is this guy going to deliver? Most certainly, but don't expect Barry Sanders 2.0
Rob Wilson
The Fantasy Footballers
Combination of route running, speed, and hands makes him the top threat underneath in football.Above average rusher, dynamite pass catcher. The Chiefs made an investment that raised eyebrows, but Damien Williams opting out should make your heart skip a beat. Darkhorse candidate to finish as a top 2 RB.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Tier of his own when comparing to other WRs. He is the alpha and clear #1.With Damien Williams opting out, CEH finds himself as THE guy in an Andy Reid system with Pat Mahomes at QB. *Insert drooling dog pic here* CEH is well worth the gamble in the back end of the first round. Huge upside.
Justin Dodds
Locked In Football
Last season, MT beat the WR2 by 67 fpts and 100 fpts in half PPR and PPR, respectively. Thomas lead over the next best in receptions by 45 and 28 in targets, all while also being without Drew Brees for nearly 6 full games. Expect this dominance to continue in 2020 as the Saints have added only Emmanuel Sanders to the offense, who currently isn't expected to be involved all that much being ECR WR45 in half PPR.CEH is the bellcow RB for an offense that has very strong potential to lead the league in scoring. In the 29 games Mahomes has started, the RBs in those games have scored 39 touchdowns which is about 1.35 TDs per game. If CEH gets just HALF of that TD volume, that's still ~11 TDs in 16 games, which would've put him 7th in TDs last year. Remember, when Kareem Hunt was the bellcow in 2018, he was the RB6 in half-ppr FP/g and the RB8 in ppr FP/g. The upside is too large to put him below guys like Mixon, Jones, Sanders, Jacobs, and Chubb.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Has 70 more catches, 116 more receiving yards than any other player in NFL history thru their first 4 seasonsWith D. Williams opting out, CEH's workload concerns fade considerably, but he's more likely to be great because of Ekeler-like efficiency than substantial volume

Averaging 117 receptions over his first 4 years. Not sure how you could rank him below 1 with Brees back.107 RB targets spread out to the Chiefs RB position last year. Due to injury, and coaching decisions, no RB played more than 35% of the snaps. If CEH can consolidate the targets and take charge on the backfield(like they seemingly drafted him to do), he might just be awesome. If you thought he might've been a product of the LSU offense, feel free to rely on that excuse in KC as well, should work just fine. Updated thoughts: DAMIEN WILLIAMS, the man who struggled to take over LeSean McCoy, still averaged a 63.5% snap share in 13 games(missed majority of week 11 with injury), still averaged 15.13 fantasy points in those 13 games, a pace of RB7. But now some are worried that the man drafted in the first round doesn't have the ability, or is too risky to be taken as an RB1? Dam paced for it and he couldn't even beat out McCoy while doing so, and now neither are on the team.

Michael Thomas just put up the best season for a WR of all time and there's very little reason to doubt that he could put up another dominant performance in 2020. Even when Drew Brees went down, MT was still dominant with Teddy Bridgewater. Thomas is clearly the WR1 in drafts this season and it's not even close. If you want to build your fantasy team around Thomas, you're not going to find any complaints here...With the news that Damien Williams has opted out for the 2020 NFL season, CEH immediately shoots up into the top-10 at the RB position. While he's not going to be a "workhorse" back and see 250 carries, he's going to be heavily involved in the receiving game. I'm projecting him to have a similar workload to what Alvin Kamara has seen over the past few seasons and we know how that can translate to top-tier fantasy production in a dynamic offense. CEH can be drafted confidently in the same tier as Joe Mixon, Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, and Josh Jacobs.

Thomas broke Marvin Harrison's single-season reception record with 149 receptions in 2019. He also had 1,725 yards receiving and 9 receiving touchdowns, despite QB Drew Brees missing 5 games. Thomas is the best fantasy receiver in football, especially if Brees returns to New Orleans in 2020.Now that Damien Williams has opted to sit out the 2020 season, Edwards-Helaire should be the unquestioned lead running back on one of the best offenses in the NFL. He is a RB1 with upside.

There's a very good chance Michael Thomas won't repeat as the fantasy WR1 in 2020. In fact the WR1 hasn't repeated since 2014. But is anybody else more likely to top all receivers in 2020? Absolutely not! The reality is that it's really hard to consistently churn out league-winning fantasy performances but Michael Thomas is rightly the consensus WR1. You can safely take him anywhere between 1.03 in PPR and 1.06 in non-PPR without any complaints from me.I absolutely love Clyde Edwards-Helaire as a talent. He was sensational for LSU last year and just quietly, amazing for my college fantasy team. I was very low on him at his price until the Damien Williams hold out. He now jumps into the first round discussions for me as I don't believe Darwin Thompson and DeAndre Washington have enough to keep him off the field for more than a rest. It is very possible the Chiefs bring in a veteran and that stops me from ranking him among the elite, but he is certainly in that second tier of guys and has massive upside.

149/1725/9 . . . while playing with a backup QB for a good chunk of the season. That's all you need to know.

Michael Thomas targets and fantasy ranks last three seasons: 2017: 149 targets - WR5 2018: 147 targets - WR6 2019: 185 targets - WR1The Kansas City Chiefs have averaged the following over the last 3 seasons: 282 rush attempts, 99 RB receptions, 4.43 rush yards per attempt, 7.4 RB yards per reception, 11.6 rushing touchdowns, 8.3 RB receiving tds Let's say, CEH only gets 60% of workload, going only on averages, he would finish with: 169 rush attempts, 60 receptions, 7 rush td, 5 rec td, 750 rush yards, 440 receiving yards He would finish with 251 PPR points. This would have had him ranked 9th last season ahead of Alvin Kamara, Saquon Barkley, Joe Mixon, Mark Ingram, and others. @BlakeAHampton

The only WR I consider among the elite horses.Could not have scripted a more perfect landing spot. Immediate Top-3 upside given the Talent + Fit + Usage + Surrounding Offense. Helaire is going to eat.
