With Damien Williams opting out, CEH finds himself as THE guy in an Andy Reid system with Pat Mahomes at QB. *Insert drooling dog pic here* CEH is well worth the gamble in the back end of the first round. Huge upside.
Justin Dodds
Locked In Football
CEH is the bellcow RB for an offense that has very strong potential to lead the league in scoring. In the 29 games Mahomes has started, the RBs in those games have scored 39 touchdowns which is about 1.35 TDs per game. If CEH gets just HALF of that TD volume, that's still ~11 TDs in 16 games, which would've put him 7th in TDs last year. Remember, when Kareem Hunt was the bellcow in 2018, he was the RB6 in half-ppr FP/g and the RB8 in ppr FP/g. The upside is too large to put him below guys like Mixon, Jones, Sanders, Jacobs, and Chubb.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
I had Edwards-Helaire as my top running back in this year's class due to the way he fits the NFL today. He's a true three-down back who can catch 80-plus passes out of the backfield, while running for 1,000-plus yards. Landing with the Chiefs was a dream scenario, especially in the first round. Over the last seven years, running backs who've been drafted in the first round have averaged 280.7 touches in year one. 75 percent of them have finished as an RB2 or better. Don't think this is Darwin Thompson all over again, as he was a sixth-round pick last year, and those average just 29.8 touches in year one. This is Edwards-Helaire's backfield after Andy Reid said he's better than Brian Westbrook on film. You don't take those players off the field very often. He's worth a second-round pick and would be a steal in the third round. The Rams offense was in complete disarray last year, as their offensive line started to crumble, which dragged Gurley's efficiency down the drain. He did show that he's still able to handle a big workload down the stretch, finishing with 98 touches over the final five games. Now going to the Falcons, who have one of the better offensive lines in football, with little competition, Gurley could return to RB1 status. It's a high-scoring offense where the running backs have averaged 1,383 yards and 9.7 touchdowns on the ground, while averaging another 572 yards and 4.7 touchdowns through the air over the last three years. With Ito Smith and Brian Hill the only running backs behind him, Gurley should receive most of the work/production.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
With D. Williams opting out, CEH's workload concerns fade considerably, but he's more likely to be great because of Ekeler-like efficiency than substantial volumeGiven arthritic knees, a Gurley draft pick comes with restless sleep - but new offense and workload upside ripe with the kind of upside potential he enjoyed in LA
Elliot Berkovits
Pack to the Future
I was excited about Edwards-Helaire before Williams opted out, now, I'm all in. He's about to enter the best offense in football which will give him scoring opportunities on a weekly basis. Dating back to 1999, there have been 5 RB's coached by Andy Reid who finished inside the top-10 in their first year with him. Could Edwards-Helaire make it six? I think so.Gurley may be the most difficult running back to evaluate heading into 2020. He's on a new team, he still has the knee problems and you just never know when he'll break down. If you like high-risk/high-reward guys, Gurley is your man.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
107 RB targets spread out to the Chiefs RB position last year. Due to injury, and coaching decisions, no RB played more than 35% of the snaps. If CEH can consolidate the targets and take charge on the backfield(like they seemingly drafted him to do), he might just be awesome. If you thought he might've been a product of the LSU offense, feel free to rely on that excuse in KC as well, should work just fine. Updated thoughts: DAMIEN WILLIAMS, the man who struggled to take over LeSean McCoy, still averaged a 63.5% snap share in 13 games(missed majority of week 11 with injury), still averaged 15.13 fantasy points in those 13 games, a pace of RB7. But now some are worried that the man drafted in the first round doesn't have the ability, or is too risky to be taken as an RB1? Dam paced for it and he couldn't even beat out McCoy while doing so, and now neither are on the team.No Rams RB averaged over 3.8 a carry. Despite all the Gurley concerns, he still had 250 touches on the year, and graded equally as well in the run as the previous 2 years according to whatever PFF uses. His line play was terrible, 26th in the league. He now steps into just a favorable situation, behind a top 10 run blocking line in 2019, where his pass catching work should pop back up, even if TDs aren't quite as high, to provide another 250 touch season, and borderline RB1 potential as long as the knees allow it.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
With the news that Damien Williams has opted out for the 2020 NFL season, CEH immediately shoots up into the top-10 at the RB position. While he's not going to be a "workhorse" back and see 250 carries, he's going to be heavily involved in the receiving game. I'm projecting him to have a similar workload to what Alvin Kamara has seen over the past few seasons and we know how that can translate to top-tier fantasy production in a dynamic offense. CEH can be drafted confidently in the same tier as Joe Mixon, Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, and Josh Jacobs.Gurley is going to be given all the touches he can handle in this Falcons offense, if he can stay healthy. If he proves that he can handle a significant workload, he'll easily outperform his ADP this season. However, there are legitimate reasons to doubt that he'll be able to withstand a heavy workload ever again, which makes him an incredibly risky pick.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Now that Damien Williams has opted to sit out the 2020 season, Edwards-Helaire should be the unquestioned lead running back on one of the best offenses in the NFL. He is a RB1 with upside.Gurley will have a new lease on life in Atlanta and he did have 14 touchdowns last year, but he also averaged only 3.8 yards per carry, had very few big plays, and his arthritic condition in his knee makes him a dicey flex option.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Edwards-Helaire was probably set to be overvalued in fantasy drafts, but now that Damien Williams has opted out, he immediately vaults into reliable RB1 territory. The Chiefs spent their first-round pick on Edwards-Helaire and, regardless, pretty much any replacement value running back can find fantasy gold in Kansas City's system. There are still plenty of other running backs on the roster who will garner touches, including DeAndre Washington, Darwin Thompson, and Darrel Williams, and because the Chiefs' offense is so dynamic, there is no reason for them to run their rookie back into the ground. Still, without Williams, Edwards-Helaire should get the majority of the touches in the backfield, and that puts him in RB1 territory, full stop.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
I absolutely love Clyde Edwards-Helaire as a talent. He was sensational for LSU last year and just quietly, amazing for my college fantasy team. I was very low on him at his price until the Damien Williams hold out. He now jumps into the first round discussions for me as I don't believe Darwin Thompson and DeAndre Washington have enough to keep him off the field for more than a rest. It is very possible the Chiefs bring in a veteran and that stops me from ranking him among the elite, but he is certainly in that second tier of guys and has massive upside.Todd Gurley sits right in the middle of the group of former fantasy studs who've moved to new teams and he arguably has the best situation. While he had an awful 2019 but he doesn't deserve the bulk of the fault. His knee issues didn't help but the biggest problems were his O-line, who blocked worse than SP15 sunscreen, and the offence that no longer ran through him like the glory years of 2017-18. Now in Atlanta, there's a good chance the former RB1 can return to his previous glory in an offence that made the questionable talent of Devonta Freeman a fantasy star. Sharing the workload is a possibility but the lack of talent behind him means he's locked into the main role and only injury can really knock him down from there. I love the upside but there is enough risk to wait until the late 3rd round before pulling the trigger.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
The Kansas City Chiefs have averaged the following over the last 3 seasons: 282 rush attempts, 99 RB receptions, 4.43 rush yards per attempt, 7.4 RB yards per reception, 11.6 rushing touchdowns, 8.3 RB receiving tds Let's say, CEH only gets 60% of workload, going only on averages, he would finish with: 169 rush attempts, 60 receptions, 7 rush td, 5 rec td, 750 rush yards, 440 receiving yards He would finish with 251 PPR points. This would have had him ranked 9th last season ahead of Alvin Kamara, Saquon Barkley, Joe Mixon, Mark Ingram, and others. @BlakeAHamptonAtlanta is a great landing spot for Todd Gurley--he should walk right into the 17.4 touches/game that Devonta vacated. Still a 4th rounder with durability concerns. Initial Gurley projection with Atlanta is 235 carries, 965 rushing yards, 8 rushing TD, 61 targets, 340 receiving yards, 2 receiving TD.
