Derek Brown FantasyPros | Cole Kmet ranked inside the top 12 amongst tight ends in targets (93, eighth), target share (17.7%, 11th), receiving yards (612, 12th), and air yard share (17.6%, 11th). With the depth chart devoid of receiving talent outside of Darnell Mooney, Kmet should see a similar share of the passing offense (if not more) in 2022. With touchdown regression poised to strike his box scores, Kmet is a high floor and ceiling option in fantasy. | This season, Robert Tonyan could reenter the top ten tight end realm if his health complies. Tonyan is recovering from a torn ACL, but the Packer's receiving hierarchy is wide open after Davante Adams' departure. In 2020, Tonyan ranked tenth in yards per route run during his breakout season, but he was only 24th in receiving yards per game (minimum 50 targets, per PFF). He'll have to pick it up in the volume and yardage departments because repeating 11 receiving touchdowns (tied for the most among tight ends with Travis Kelce) is a lofty goal. |
Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | No tight end should make a bigger leap in 2022 than the third-year tight end, whose upside has been capped by a lack of touchdown equity with veteran Jimmy Graham rearing his ugly head the past few seasons. But Graham's currently a free agent, opening the door for Kmet to smash in 2022. Kmet's eighth-ranked route participation and seventh-ranked target share (17%) from 2021 hardly aligns with his fantasy production - no tight end finished with more fantasy points under expectation (-36.6) than the Notre Dame product in 2021. That designation is a sign Kmet is due for a fantasy breakout. It signaled as much for guys like Zach Ertz and Dawson Knox, who scored fewer points than expected in 2020 before contributing in fantasy this year. Both tight ends finished 2021 as top-10 options at the position in fantasy points per game. The Chicago Bears hired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to pair with second-year quarterback Justin Fields. Getsy should be able to build an offense more conducive to Fields' mobility - something he had success with at Mississippi State as its former OC. An overall offensive boost should help fuel Kmet as 2022's breakout tight end. He has the requisite size and athleticism, sporting an 87th-percentile height, 88th-percentile vertical jump, and 89th-percentile broad jump. Kmet checks off all the boxes for a tight end breakout, and that's exactly why I have him ranked three spots ahead of consensus at TE13. | Robert Tonyan wasn't particularly effective last season before his injury - only two games with over 10 fantasy points and TE29 in fantasy points per game - but the path to upside exists in an offense led by Aaron Rodgers. Don't be too quick to forget that Tonyan caught 11 touchdowns in 2020, and there are many red-zone opportunities left with Adams removed from the equation. The new Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver has earned 28 red-zone targets over the last two seasons - most by any player. As long as Tonyan remains just outside the middle-range tight end ADP, he is definitely worth an 11th or 12th round selection. With so much ambiguity regarding which wide receiver will emerge from Green Bay, the right answer might be just drafting Tonyan instead. |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | Solid sophomore campaign included 60 catches, 612 yards, but he didn't score a touchdown all season and has scored two TDs in 32 career games. Expect offseason buzz from experts who'll note the inevitability of positive TD regression. | Tonyan was having a mediocre campaign before tearing his ACL in Week 8. His breakout season in 2020 was fueled by a fluky TD total (11). But now Davante Adams is gone, and the Packers are woefully short on proven WRs, which opens the window for Tonyan to become fantasy-relevant once again. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Kmet made strides in his second year and finished the fantasy season with 564 yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs. If his offense improves this offseason, he has a chance to be a sleeper TE1. |
