Mark Ringo Sleepers and Busts | With Kellen Moore fired as offensive coordinator, expect some big changes in Dallas in 2023. Here's what head coach Mike McCarthy had to say about it..... "I've been where Kellen has been: Kellen wants to light the scoreboard up," McCarthy told reporters at the NFL combine. But I want to run the damn ball so I can rest my defense. I don't desire to be the No. 1 offense in the league. I want to be the No. 1 team in the league with a number of wins and a championship. And if we have to give up some production and take care of the ball better to get that, then that's what we'll do." That's a bad sign for Dak Prescott's fantasy outlook. Prescott's current ADP of QB 9 is way too high a price for Mark Ringo. I'm dropping everyone remotely related to the Cowboys' passing attack significantly down my rankings. This ain't my first fantasy rodeo. Ya'll remember what I told you come draft day. Ya'll steer clear of fantasy analysts who try to tell you to take Dak. There will about a lot of fantasy folks out there to hang you this year by recommending Dak. Get moving. Bust -William Munny Ringo | If you look up recency bias in the fantasy dictionary, there should be a picture of Deshaun Watson next to it. There's no way he should be ranked with an ADP of QB 10. He's entering the prime years of his NFL QB at age 27. He's also finished as a top five his first 3 years in the league. He helped Clemson win a national title in college by going through the Crimson Tide's defense like a hot knife through butter. In the biggest game, with the game/national championship on the line in the final seconds, Watson delivered. Yes, there were off-the-field issues, but that's in the past. And now he's had over a year to get familiar with the Browns playbook and develop timing with his WRs. I'm throwing last year out. Watson is too good to base his ranking on a small six-game sample size. That stretch was his preseason tune-up. The Browns aren't paying him $230 million to hand the ball off. They could have kept Jacoby Brissett to do that. They're going to center the offense around Watson. Expect the Browns to pass it more this year. And if that's not enough, Watson can run it some too. He's a good bet to rush for over 400 yards and run it in the end zone a few times. I expect a huge bounce-back season. Undervalued. |
Pat Fitzmaurice FantasyPros | This seems like a crossroads year for Dak Prescott, who's coming off a forgettable 2022 campaign. Prescott finished as the QB2 in 2019, giving us a glimpse of what his fantasy ceiling looks like. But he has missed significant time with injuries in two of the last three years, and his passing efficiency numbers are trending in the wrong direction. Prescott threw an NFL-high 15 interceptions in 2022. His 7.3 YPA was his lowest since 2017. After averaging 278.1 passing yards per game in 2021, Prescott averaged 238.3 passing yards per game in 2022. He ran for six touchdowns in each of his first three seasons but has only eight TD runs over the last four years. Consider Prescott a low-end QB1, stationed somewhere between the elite fantasy quarterbacks and the streamer class. | The 2022 version of Deshaun Watson was a far cry from the early-career Watson who finished top five in QB fantasy scoring in each of his first three seasons as a starter. Amid allegations of sexual assault, Watson didn't play in 2021 and served an 11-game suspension in 2022 before making a Week 13 debut for the Browns against his old team, the Texans. Watson was predictably rusty, producing numbers befitting a fantasy backup over a small sample size. It's reasonable to assume that Watson will look at least a little more like the dynamic dual-threat QB he used to be in 2023, but it would be a leap of faith to assume that he'll be as effective as he was from 2018 to 2020. |
Wolf of Roto Street Roto Street Journal | 2/8 - All DAL passing game downgraded with no more Kellen Moore, who's replaced with run-obssessed Brian Schottenheimer | Looked genuinely bad, but maybe he was just shaking off rust. Been Top-5 QB in PPG every other pro season, but this is a run-first attack and I just don't think the juice is worth the squeeze here |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Prescott had 2,860 yards passing and 23 passing TDs in 12 games this year. Prescott should be a low-end QB1 if he can stay healthy for 17 games in 2023. | Watson played on 6 games this year and he was not very good in those games, finishing with only 1,102 passing yards and 7 passing TDs. He should be better with a normal offseason, but he needs to prove he can be the player he was in Houston back in 2020, making him a boom / bust QB1. |
