Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
We've yet to see Cook stay healthy throughout an NFL season, but that's not stopping drafters from taking him with a pick inside the first two rounds. The Vikings are a high-powered offense who upgraded their offensive line this offseason, so the appeal is justified. The Vikings did draft Alexander Mattison in the third-round, so they're obviously concerned about the depth behind Cook, but he's the starter as long as he's healthyIt was a solid rookie year for Michel, who finished as the RB28 despite missing three full games. The issue with expecting a massive jump in production is his lack of usage in the passing game (just seven receptions in 13 games), and the third-round draft pick of Damien Harris, as he's a threat to steal some early-down work. Still, Michel should provide RB2 value as long as he's healthy
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
If you tell me Cook will play 16 games, he's in my Top 10 RBs. I'm ranking him with the idea that a couple/few DNPs are a real possibilityAdmittedly, there's some fear of his balky knee, and a little usage uncertainty with Belichick's history of pulling the backfield strings, but his preseason's been strong and the backfield is lucrative (NE top 6 in RB half-PPR FAN PTS each of past 4 seasons)
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
The Vikings want to run the ball and a healthy Cook is dynamic. He's worth a dice roll in late round one or early round 2Michel was great last year, but he's had some health questions and New England has approximately one thousand running backs. He should be higher, but I can't do it.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Cook oozes talent and could easily be a top-five fantasy back if he were in the right situation. And there are positives for him playing in Minnesota, such as the Vikings' focus on the run in the second half last year which should likely continue this season. But Alexander Mattison and Mike Boone remain and will likely cut into Cook's workload. Add to this that he has played just 15 games over his first two seasons because of injuries and there are plenty of downsides to consider. Still, Cook makes an RB1, without question, and so long as he is healthy, he should deliver quality fantasy production.Michel dealt with a preseason knee injury that bothered him some during the season, but he came on during the fantasy (and real-life) playoffs, showing his upside. When the Patriots spent a third-round pick on Damien Harris, fantasy owners got worried, but Harris reportedly has not gotten many reps this summer. The backfield in New England is still crowded with James White and Rex Burkhead, but with no Rob Gronkowksi, the Patriots are likely to lean on the run a bit more. That makes Michel an RB2, though one that is better in standard formats.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Cook, just like Mixon, is a late second round pick being drafted at the end of the first/early second. He played 4 games his rookie season and 11 games last season, so he is clearly extremely injury prone. He had one game ALL of last season with over 16 carries.Check out my article on BRotofantasy.com regarding Michel's inflated ADP. He was very much a game script RB with no passing game involvement last season and there is nothing that says that will not remain the same this season. He also has degenerative knee issues and has never played even half the offensive snaps in a game.
Rich Piazza
Fantasy Shed
There isn't any questioning his workload, talent & upside, and that is exactly why he's ranked where his is. Just keep in mind, he hasn't been able to stay healthy and has had similar rankings / ADP the past two seasons, where he has failed to return that value.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Cook's last four games last season extrapolated over an entire 16 game season would result in a rushing line of 1,212 and 8TDs with a receiving line of 444 rushing yards and 4 TDs. Kubiak is bringing in an outside zone running scheme and Cook has had his most success in his young career in that scheme.
Sean Koerner
The Action Network
chronic knee issues mean he could miss games. Damien Harris puts pressure on him. not ideal in any sort of PPR. he's more valuable in Best Ball as he will consolidate his value into several games he goes off
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Cook may have finished with fewer than 1,000 yards in a disappointing season last year but over the final four weeks when he appeared to finally be 100%, the Vikings gave him 72 touches. Keep in mind, he showed the ability to handle a full workload in 2017 prior to his injury with 71 touches in just 3 games so we may be looking at this year's breakout star.Sony has plummeted down draft boards with the drafting of Damien Harris and multiple reports about concerns revolving Michel's knee. These are both scary for fantasy owners, but the price has now dropped low enough that you can afford to take a risk on someone with legitimate top 10 running back upside in this great Patriots' offense.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Dalvin Cook has played in just 15 games over his first two seasons, so durability is absolutely a concern. Sports injury predictor has him as an elevated injury risk, and I have to agree. He's suffered a shoulder tear, an ankle sprain, another shoulder tear, a torn ACL, and two pulled hamstrings. When he's been on the field he's been electric. Cook has a career 4.7 YPC, including 3 yards per carry after contact last season. He's also shown his receiving upside with 3 or more receptions in 73% of his career games. While injuries are a concern, the Vikings improved their offensive line by drafting Garrett Bradbury in the first round. He's going to help out a ton, and should make them a better run blocking unit than they were last season. Cook is going to see massive volume as long as he can stay healthy. He's certainly a risky early round pick, but he's also one that could pay off big time.Honestly, I can't justify drafting Sony this season. Not only did the Patriots draft another RB early this season, but his knee is a concern. He's suffered a torn ACL, a fractured shoulder blade, multiple ankle sprains, a fractured forearm and three separate knee strains. Sony, unsurprisingly, has the second highest chance of injury this season according to sports injury predictor. You can also add volume reduction to his risk. We know that White is going to get most of the passing down work, and that Harris is going to take some of the early down work away from him. This backfield is very similar to that of Washington. Assuming everyone stays healthy, Sony isn't going to pay off his ADP. He would need a Damien Harris injury to be anything more than a TD upside FLEX play. Yet he's being drafted as a mid range RB 2. Save yourself the headache and just stay away from Sony this season.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
The Vikings had a horrible run / pass ratio that they seemed to correct toward the end of the season. Cook will be a year removed from his ACL tear and he should be a low-end RB1. It will also help that RB Latavius Murray is in New Orleans and he will not be taking away as many carries from Cook this year.Michel had a breakout postseason and that could carry over to a strong 2019 season. He does have some knee issues, but he should still be a solid RB3 with RB2 upside in 2019.
