FantasyPros
Cook may have finished with fewer than 1,000 yards in a disappointing season last year but over the final four weeks when he appeared to finally be 100%, the Vikings gave him 72 touches. Keep in mind, he showed the ability to handle a full workload in 2017 prior to his injury with 71 touches in just 3 games so we may be looking at this year's breakout star.Williams entered 2018 with virtually no production to his name but exploded when given the opportunity in Andy Reid's offense. So long as he can get healthy and earn his spot as the starter, he will be a top 20 running back with room for much more. That upside will depend entirely on his large of a role he can handle, as the offense is certain to score plenty of points. There is reason, however, to be worried about Darwin Thompson.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Cook oozes talent and could easily be a top-five fantasy back if he were in the right situation. And there are positives for him playing in Minnesota, such as the Vikings' focus on the run in the second half last year which should likely continue this season. But Alexander Mattison and Mike Boone remain and will likely cut into Cook's workload. Add to this that he has played just 15 games over his first two seasons because of injuries and there are plenty of downsides to consider. Still, Cook makes an RB1, without question, and so long as he is healthy, he should deliver quality fantasy production.Williams was borderline dominant once he took over the starting running back role for the Chiefs in December, and his pass-catching abilities gave him what appeared to be an enormously high floor heading into this season even with only a small sample on which to rely. But an early hamstring injury brought out rumblings of a committee approach with Carlos Hyde, Darrel Williams, and Darwin Thompson, and there are conflicting reports as to Williams' workload. Because of his upside, Williams still makes an RB2, and a strong one at that. But drafting him is not without risk, so fantasy owners should make sure they have depth at the running back position if they take Williams with an early pick.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Cook, just like Mixon, is a late second round pick being drafted at the end of the first/early second. He played 4 games his rookie season and 11 games last season, so he is clearly extremely injury prone. He had one game ALL of last season with over 16 carries. The #1 RB in an Andy Reid offense is a fantasy stud. It's science. So get the RB that is going to lead this backfield. Oh yeah, Reid also never employs an RBBC, so don't believe that either.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
If you tell me Cook will play 16 games, he's in my Top 10 RBs. I'm ranking him with the idea that a couple/few DNPs are a real possibilityFit the bill nicely in KC backfield after K. Hunt suspension/release - No. 2 RB in half-PPR FAN PPG over final 3 weeks - HC Reid's comments of RB committee ring hollow given that has never been his style
Rich Piazza
Fantasy Shed
There isn't any questioning his workload, talent & upside, and that is exactly why he's ranked where his is. Just keep in mind, he hasn't been able to stay healthy and has had similar rankings / ADP the past two seasons, where he has failed to return that value.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
The Vikings had a horrible run / pass ratio that they seemed to correct toward the end of the season. Cook will be a year removed from his ACL tear and he should be a low-end RB1. It will also help that RB Latavius Murray is in New Orleans and he will not be taking away as many carries from Cook this year.Williams had a nice close to the season and he should have a big role in their offense in 2019. Williams is a high-end RB2 with RB1 upside in one of the best offenses in the NFL.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
The Vikings want to run the ball and a healthy Cook is dynamic. He's worth a dice roll in late round one or early round 2The committee talk has me scared of Damien, largely because his price is so steep. I still like him, but not in the first round
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Cook's last four games last season extrapolated over an entire 16 game season would result in a rushing line of 1,212 and 8TDs with a receiving line of 444 rushing yards and 4 TDs. Kubiak is bringing in an outside zone running scheme and Cook has had his most success in his young career in that scheme.Damien Williams was a starter in 5 games last season. In those five games he saw at least 10 rushing attempts and at least 6 targets in every game but one. Furthermore, he scored a TD in every one of those games and actually scored 8 in total. Williams was extended by the Chiefs this offseason and only has Carlos Hyde (The worst receiving back in the NFL over the past few seasons - oh and his rushing numbers aren't very good either) and 5'8" 201lb 6th rounder Darwin Thompson. Damien Williams is not going to lose his job if healthy. Andy Reid also mentioned that he'd use an RBBC "like in Philly." If you look at Andy Reid's RBs over the last FIFTEEN seasons, he has used a RBBC one time. That was in 2009, when the Eagles were transitioning from Westbrook to McCoy. Other than that, Reid has sprinkled RBs like Ware and West in at times but that's about it. I expect this "RBBC" to be more of the same - a RBBC of sprinkles. Grab Williams at a value.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Dalvin Cook has played in just 15 games over his first two seasons, so durability is absolutely a concern. Sports injury predictor has him as an elevated injury risk, and I have to agree. He's suffered a shoulder tear, an ankle sprain, another shoulder tear, a torn ACL, and two pulled hamstrings. When he's been on the field he's been electric. Cook has a career 4.7 YPC, including 3 yards per carry after contact last season. He's also shown his receiving upside with 3 or more receptions in 73% of his career games. While injuries are a concern, the Vikings improved their offensive line by drafting Garrett Bradbury in the first round. He's going to help out a ton, and should make them a better run blocking unit than they were last season. Cook is going to see massive volume as long as he can stay healthy. He's certainly a risky early round pick, but he's also one that could pay off big time.Damien Williams has as much upside as any running back in fantasy. Unfortunately, he also has a wide range of outcomes. He suffered a hamstring injury early in camp, which forced him to miss a week and a half of practice. There are now reports Andy Reid might go with a committee approach...something he hasn't done since his days with the Eagles. We're going to need to watch closely what happens for the remainder of camp. If he wins the starting job, and doesn't suffer a setback...then I'm drafting him. If it's a clear split, or he suffers another injury, then I'll fade.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
We've still yet to see Cook stay healthy throughout an NFL season, but that's not stopping drafters from taking him with a pick inside the first two rounds. The Vikings are a high-powered offense who upgraded their offensive line this offseason, so the appeal is justified. The Vikings did draft Alexander Mattison in the third-round, so they're obviously concerned about the depth behind Cook, but he's the starter as long as he's healthyIt's never a bad thing to have the running back attached to Andy Reid's offense, though Williams shouldn't go inside the top few rounds due to the question marks surrounding him. He's still yet to have more than 13 carries in a regular season game, so what makes us believe he's going to stand up to a full workload? The Chiefs also signed Carlos Hyde, who happens to be a pretty good running back, though all many remember is that he didn't produce while on the Jaguars. If you were deciding between Hyde and Williams on the same roster at this point last year, Hyde would've been the no-brainer. Williams may be a stud, but he also comes with dud potential
Kevin Wheeler
DraftWize
I'm assuming Williams isn't the starter over the entire season. Williams had a nice 4-game run to end the season, but was under 13 touches in two of them, he won't be the only fantasy producer in this backfield.
