Did you know that Joe Mixon has actually played more games than Dalvin Cook since they both came into the league in 2017? Yet somehow Mixon gets labeled as an injury risk every single season and Cook is being drafted as a top-3 pick this year. While Cook's production when he's on the field is certainly worthy of a top-3 pick - don't get me wrong - it goes to show the recency bias that comes into play for fantasy managers when they're on the clock. When Mixon is on the field, he's going to receive one of the heaviest workloads in the entire league. He's a top-5 talent at the RB position in the league and this offense is set to take a major jump in 2021 with Joe Burrow and his bevy of receiving weapons. If Mixon had been shut down immediately last season and put on IR when his injury occurred, we wouldn't have this perception in our minds of him as a huge injury risk. However, because of Zac Taylor's inconsistent commitment to Mixon returning to the lineup last year, fantasy managers have a bad taste in their mouths. Go get some mouthwash, clean out that taste, and draft Mixon at a major discount this year. The production's going to be too good to pass up and if you can get him as a RB2 on your roster, you're well on your way to a fantasy championship.Based on pure talent, Swift already belongs in the top-12 RB conversation in the NFL. Unfortunately, it's hard to have faith that Swift will finish in that range this year for fantasy purposes. While he could see plenty of targets in the passing game, the scoring opportunities on this bad Detroit Lions team probably aren't going to be very plentiful. Additionally, he now has Jamaal Williams in this backfield to compete for touches with and Anthony Lynn has been vocal about his love for utilizing a committee approach. Swift is going to be a safe RB2 for your roster this season because of the floor he'll bring you week in and week out. However, due to the offense he's in, there's virtually no upside. Think about it this way...would you have been as excited about Swift last season if he were on the New York Jets or Jacksonville Jaguars and in a near 50/50 time share? That could be the exact situation we're looking at this season in Detroit. My Very Early Projection: 206-843-5 rushing & 54-428-1 receiving.

If Mixon can stay healthy, HC Taylor is basically showing his cards that he plans to make him one of the highest volume RBs in the NFLDET likely to be among worst NFL offenses and Jamaal Williams getting lots of lip service love from OC Lynn - still, there's 70-catch upside if he can soon put groin issue in past

Sleepers and Busts
Mixon is a rare three down RB. He's excellent at catching passes and a talented runner. The comp scouts gave when he came out of college was LeVeon Bell. Gio Bernard left for Tampa in free agency so he should get the third down work. The concern: 1.) Did the Bengals do enough in the offseason up front to help the blocking for Mixon and Burrow? They signed Riley Reiff in free agency and drafted Jackson Carman out of Clemson. Mixon might be a year away from fantasy greatness. He has the chops. That's not in doubt. The question, is that enough in 2021? If things break right- (aka- Joe Burrow must stay healthy)- then yes!INJURY UPDATE- Swift has missed a lot of practice time after injuring his groin. Monitor this situation closely as August progresses. As soon as we hear anything we will let you know. Stay tuned........ Swift is a really talented RB, but he isn't big enough to be a three down RB. He'll wear down. The Lions under a new GM signed RB Jamaal Williams from Green Bay in free agency. He'll probably see the goal line work. He's a better power runner. There's also rumors that Detroit is interested in Todd Gurley. Some members of the Lions front office came over from L.A. when Gurley was playing for the Rams. This management has no ties to Swift. Detroit's offense isn't that great anyway. This is one of those where I like the player, but hate the situation type of deals. Why some analysts are taking DeAndre Swift so early (3rd round) is beyond me. They might as well take Taylor Swift instead. At that price point, I think DeAndre Swift is a bust in 2021. Avoid

The Draft Zone
Last season, as a rookie, D'Andre had 57 targets in 13 games. He was on pace for 70 targets. Through off-season departures and additions, the Lions have 362 targets available. @RobFFAddict If you don't think D'Andre Swift is a great value at the end of the 3rd round... I assure you, life as a fantasy "analyst" is not in your future. 75 target FLOOR - @JLarkytweets Seeing people who aren't injury experts still making late comments about D'Andre Swift's injury when he's been making great plays in practice this week is interesting. It has influenced several people, based on drafts and Twitter. According to @PFF_Fantasy, D'Andre Swift has the third-hardest schedule among running backs. Insane talent, pass-catching upside, heavy usage, terrible team, negative game-scripts, tough schedule, new QB/coach.

FantasyPros
Though Mixon is collectively viewed as a "pass-catching back," his career high in single-season receptions is just 43 from 2018. He was on pace to blow his rushing and receiving numbers out of the water in 2020 before injury caused him to miss 10 games. Still, it's worth noting that Mixon has never racked up 1,500 scrimmage yards or double-digit touchdowns, and he's never finished higher than RB9 in a single season.Swift finished as RB18 in his first season thanks to 46 receptions and 10 total scores. Though he amassed only 160 total touches, Swift posted almost 1,000 yards in just 13 games. Jamaal Williams isn't a legitimate threat to take a ton of work from Swift, but he may be a caterpillar in the buttermilk in Swift's path to an RB1 season. Consider the second-year Lion a mid-range RB2.

Over the final nine games of 2019, Zac Taylor gave Mixon 214 touches (23.8 per game), which made us believe they'd finally realized he should be used in a workhorse fashion. The start of 2020 wasn't as generous, but he did average 19.7 touches per game over the first three weeks. Then we saw Giovani Bernard get knocked out of the lineup for a few weeks, and it led to Mixon totaling 27.0 touches per game over the next three weeks before getting hurt. Now that Bernard is gone, are we finally going to get a full season's worth of 20-plus touch games for Mixon? If so, top-five is in the realm of possibilities, especially knowing he'll be more involved in the passing game. Don't sleep on Mixon; he's still a top-10 running back talent-wise.There were certainly flashes of what could be a great three-down back with Swift last year, but the Lions seem to have alternate plans. They snagged Jamaal Williams in free agency and signed him to a two-year deal. Then, they drafted Jermar Jefferson. Then, they brought in Todd Gurley on a free agent visit. While they didn't sign him, it's not promising for Swift's outlook, as they clearly want this to be somewhat of a timeshare. It's not to say timeshare backs can't get into the top-12 conversation - they can, but it requires a lot of scoring opportunities, something we're not expecting from the Lions offense. Swift is an extremely talented football player, but situation and opportunity knock him into clear-cut RB2 territory. That's especially true with him being "iffy" for Week 1 because he was so delayed in getting his conditioning up to speed due to his groin injury.

No Gio Bernard. No real rookie competition added. Even more explosive offense with Chase here assuming Burrow is healthy. Line may suck, but Mixon is easily one of the top winners of the offseason -- and OC has publicly stated he has "no interest in load management" as Mixon looks like the best player in campImproved line, huge target upside, run-it-all-out coach. Love this offseason for Swift -- except Anthony Lynn calling Jamaal WIlliams the "A Back?" And then Swift missing so much time w/ a groin injury. Upside remains sky-high
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
It wasn't a bad rookie season by any means for Swift, as he finished as the 18th-ranked running back in half-PPR formats and did strong work as a receiver, totaling an impressive 1.58 yards per route run. New offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn made some waves with his comments about Jamaal Williams essentially playing as the primary back, but, even if true, we've seen backs in Lynn's system succeed as complementary pass-catching options. There are also plenty of vacated targets in Detroit and Jared Goff is sure to look for Swift as his safety net. Add it all up and Swift is a decent RB2 in half-PPR formats, but one with a fairly hard cap on his upside.

FantasyPros
Mixon has averaged only 4.5 and 4.0 yards per touch the last two years and he missed 10 games with injury last year. Mixon has a ton of talent, but he is a dicey RB2 due to injuries and a bad offensive line.Swift averaged a healthy 12.8 fantasy points in 13 games last year and he figures to see more work as the featured back in Detroit. He should be an upside RB1 in 2021 behind one of the more underrated offensive lines in the league.

Entering his fifth season in the NFL, Joe Mixon is once again set up for a massive fantasy campaign -- on paper, at least. We've been here before with Mixon and it hasn't always gone according to plan. For those who view him as injury prone following a frustrating 2020 in the health department, it's important to note that he appeared in 44-of-48 possible games from 2017-19. The departure of Gio Bernard to the Bucs gives Mixon a legitimate chance at seizing a three-down workload in (likely) the best/fastest offense he has ever played in. It's set up for him to smash. O n paper, at least...

FantasyPros
It's easy to understand people being frustrated with Joe Mixon in 2020, but once Joe Burrow was done, there was no reason to push him back onto the field after his injury. The Bengals invested heavily in Joe Mixon last off season, and there are no challengers to his position in the offense. He also had back to back 1K yard rushing seasons before 2020's disappointment. Having faith and buying back into Mixon for '21 is a good idea and will be rewarded.

Beware of the narrative of "improved OL." The addition of rookies can be a great thing for an offensive line, i.e. last year's Tampa Bay Bucs, but it can also make a glaring problem worse, i.e. last year's NY Giants. Mixon will likely see insane volume, but he has been historically inefficient and, unless 2nd-round-pick OT Jackson Carman is a transcendent talent, there is no way you can predict, with a straight face, Mixon will be more efficient with his opportunities. Unless you are getting Mixon as your RB 2 in the late second or third round of your drafts, stay away. The Lions have one of the best and deepest offensive lines in football coming into 2021, which is great news for Swift. Even better news is that he is on a team that just acquired a QB that loves to throw to the RB (Goff) in an offense that lacks outside weapons. Swift could easily see upwards of 100 targets for the Lions this season, even with Jammal Williams also getting touches. New OC Anthony Lynn has produced two RB2's or better multiple times in his time with the Chargers, and with almost nowhere else to go to on offense, the offense will run through Swift and Williams.
