| Derek Brown FantasyPros | Darrel Williams should compete with Eno Benjamin and Keaontay Ingram immediately for the primary backup role behind James Conner. Williams should be considered the early favorite. While he's not an efficient runner of the football, he was exquisite in the passing game in 2021. He ranked outside the top 40 backs in true yards per carry, juke rate, evaded tackles, and breakaway run rate. Williams was 12th in yards per route run which helped fuel his 12th ranking in yards per touch. Conner should still be considered the workhorse, but Williams could steal some routes and touches as the season progresses. If Conner goes down, he proved that he could perform in an every-down role last year. | Shanahanigans are alive and well. After selecting Trey Sermon in the third round of the NFL Draft last year, the team chose to park him firmly on the bench. Sermon only saw work in three games last season, with his most extensive workload coming against the Seahawks (19 carries, 89 rushing yards). With the 49ers' heading back to the running back well with Tyrion Davis-Price this year in round three, Sermon could be parked on the pine or the inactive list all season. Unless we get positive reports from camp, he's not worth drafting outside of the final pick in any league. |

| Andrew Erickson FantasyPros | RB Darrel Williams signed with the Cardinals this offseason. Former teammate Patrick Mahomes vouched for Williams, informing Arizona that he was a back he both liked/trusted. Williams posted 1,000 yards from scrimmage, scored 8 TDs and had zero fumbles on 191 touches in 2021. He also proved that he could shoulder the load with Clyde Edwards-Helaire sidelined with injury. In the six games that Williams was the clear-cut starter in the Chiefs backfield, he averaged 19 fantasy points per game (PPR) on 18.3 touches per game. Also averaged nearly 100 yards from scrimmage (96.3). Williams is the James Conner backup to target across all formats, as he'd likely inherit the RB1 role should the injury-prone starter go down. His body of work as a receiver and goal-line back present him immediate fantasy RB1 upside. The former UDFA led the Chiefs backfield in red-zone touches and averaged 4.5 receptions per game as the starter in 2021. His 47 catches overall ranked ninth. | |
