FantasyPros
Johnson was the victim of having a bad coaching staff and supporting cast, hopefully their offensive system will help utilize his special talents. He is a low-end RB1 that should benefit playing with rookie QB Kyler Murray in a fast paced offense.Mixon had 1,464 yards from scrimmage and 9 touchdowns in 2018. He should thrive in Zac Taylor's scheme that is very running back friendly. .
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Now that Steve Wilks is out of town, maybe we'll get back to the normally scheduled programming with Johnson. The air-raid offense that new coach Kliff Kingsbury figures to bring to the Cardinals should give Johnson a lot more work in the passing game. While at Texas Tech, Kingsbury passed the ball on 65 percent of their plays. By comparison, there were just two teams in the NFL who hit that number in 2018. With Kyler Murray presenting elusiveness, it should only help create lanes for Johnson even if his offensive line is still weakYou have to love watching Marvin Lewis walk out the door if you're Mixon, as he was severely underused as a receiver in Lewis' offense. In comes Zac Taylor, who said he's going to start the Bengals' playbook with the Rams offense, which is where he came from as a quarterbacks coach for Sean McVay. Them drafting two running backs is somewhat concerning, but that could be to protect them in case of a Mixon injury, which has happened a few times in his short career
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Air Raid system of new HC Kingsbury leans heavily to the pass and history of RBs under him is concerning for DJ, but Kingsbury will likely have to conform a bit to NFL and to his team's most dangerous weaponBecame a true game-breaker in '18, with a hefty 10.5% of his 237 carries going for 14+ yards - has room to make greater strides in the passing game after catching 43 passes
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
DJ has insane upside as one of the most explosive and versatile backs in the NFL. The question is, was last year who he is now and will a new system help or hurt him? He's a 1st rounder, but he comes with risk.Mixon is an elite talent and maybe with Green nicked up the Bengals run more. I don't know why more people aren't salivating over this kid behind in a system similar to the one that made Todd Gurley a god.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
The Cardinals offense was a disaster last season, and although Johnson saw plenty of work and put up enough fantasy points to be relevant, his production from recent years went down significantly. But all of that should be just a bad memory now, with the addition of Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. Kingsbury's system doesn't focus all that much on passes to running backs, but given Johnson's talent level, he should make up for it elsewhere. Expect an elite season, albeit perhaps one that falls short of his 2016 level.Mixon's talent is undeniable, as he showed last year with his breakout season during which he averaged 20 touches and over 100 yards per game. Although he should (and will) be drafted as an RB1, his upside his capped some by two main issues. The first is the Bengals' offensive line, which is already dealing with significant holes. The second is the presence of Gio Bernard and Mixon's lack of significant involvement in the passing game. But his floor remains high, and fantasy owners should have no hesitations about drafting him as the top back on their team.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Kingsbury himself said Johnson will see an "extensive" role that could involve as many as 35 carries or 10 catches in a given game, which could return DJ to his fantasy glory days of 2016. Last season, he got a touch on 34% of plays, but the Cardinals ranked 31st in plays per game with only 56.4. In 2016, Johnson touched the ball at the same rate for a squad that ranked second with 67.9 plays per game, and the result was a league-leading 373 touches and the best fantasy running back season of the past half-decade. @ChrisRaybon
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
An inefficient runner on a team with a bad offensive line. The Bengals best O-Lineman last season, Clint Boling, retired and then the Bengals recognized their needs and drafted Jonah Williams. Unfortunately, Williams tore his labrum. The Bengals also drafted Trayveon Williams and Rodney Anderson and still have Gio Bernard. His volume will make him a back-end RB1/high-end RB2, but he is just being drafted too high.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Mixon is a late round second pick going late first. He has a bad offensive line again, he had three games over 100 rushing yards despite having the 8th most carries of all RBs. He had three games with 5 or more receptions, and 8 weeks of 27 or less receiving yards. He is being overdrafted.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Now that Melvin Gordon is claiming he will hold out, Johnson is the clear RB5 and will most likely be the 5th pick off the board in most drafts ahead of Hopkins. He was not as good last year, in part because of the offensive line but primarily because the Cardinals ran so few plays. That should change this year under Kingsbury so don't hesitate because of his numbers last season. Were it not for the Bengals' best offensive lineman retiring and their first round rookie going on injured reserve, Mixon would be in consideration for a first round pick but with those big blows, his stock drops him down to a fringe RB1/RB2. He is extremely talented without question and may even be able to handle a huge workload but it won't matter if the offense can't support a running back.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
David Johnson fell into fantasy football hell last season with Mike McCoy as the OC in Arizona. Now, Kliff Kingsbury is in town with Kyler Murray and DJ is going to be leaned on heavily in this offense. The running lanes should be there with defenses regularly on their heels and DJ is going to soak up targets in this pass heavy offense. It simply comes down a question of Touchdowns...is this offense going to be explosive enough in year one with a rookie QB that David Johnson will get the scoring opportunities needed to be a top-tier RB? If you believe the answer is yes, then you should be all in on DJ at his ADP.Everything was looking up for Joe Mixon's fantasy stock in 2019 until the Bengals lost LT Jonah Williams for the season. Now, Mixon will be reliant upon rookie Head Coach Zac Taylor to scheme open running lanes and involvement in the passing game. Mixon's one of the true workhorse backs in the NFL and he should still contribute in a big way this season, even if his ceiling is slightly less with Williams going down for the year.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
I have a higher ranking and projection on DJ than most people do. My argument is simple, last season was the absolute worst case scenerio for DJ. His team struggled to score TD's, his QB played terrible, and his offensive coordinator was pathetic at play calling. Despite all of this...he was able to finish as the RB 10 in half PPR leagues. This season the offense should take a complete 180. They have a new head coach in Kliff Kingsbury that wants to lead the league in plays run, and they have the first overall pick in Kyler Murray, who's a massive upgrade from Josh Rosen. In 2018 the Cardinals were dead last with just 14.1 points per game, and they ran the second fewest plays per game. At the very least, they are going to improve apon thos numbers...and that's great news for DJ. I cannot stress enough how massive of a boost it would be going from just 56 plays per game, up to 70 per game. Not to mention the fact that they might actually be in the red zone for a few of those plays. Draft DJ with confidence.Mixon enters his third season as a pro at the age of 23. He posted a 93rd percentile height adjusted speed score, a 77th percentile SPARQ-x score, a 90th percentile college YPC and an 81st percentile college target market share. Mixon is an elite athlete, and he finally looks poised to take over bell cow duties in this backfield. He should improve upon his 237/1168/9 stat line from last season, as there's no legitimate competition behind him, and he projects to be amongst the league leaders in opportunity share. The Bengals ran the third fewest plays per game last season, and their offense should improve from just 23 points per game last season. A full 16 weeks from Mixon will make him a first round pick in 2020.
