Hail to Fantasy Football
Tough to rank after landing in Tampa, but he's just inside my top-30.
Jacob Wayne
Lineups
The forgotten piece of the DeAndre Hopkins trade saga is David Johnson, a running back who's going to be heavily utilized in Houston. He'll benefit from playing with Deshaun Watson, especially since this team has among the most vacated targets in the NFL. DJ will be used on the ground and through the air and will likely turn in a surprisingly productive, high-end RB2 season. The Tampa Bay backfield is probably the most confusing in the NFL at the moment. The surprise signing of Fournette has made an already confusing situation even more cloudy as there are four players who could conceivably see a significant number of carries this season. I'm not sure if Fournette will adapt to the team's offense and Tom Brady's playing style in time to make a real impact this season, but he still has intriguing upside as a former first-round pick. I think he's a bit overrated at this point and I wouldn't reach for him just based on his name alone.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
The Texans gave their running backs 397 touches last year, and that was with DeAndre Hopkins on the roster. That's a lot of work. The only running back they've added was David Johnson. While Johnson looked horrendous down the stretch, it's possible he just tried to work his way back from injury way too soon. It appears Bill O'Brien isn't convinced that Johnson is done with his NFL career, like some. It's possible that he's not as electric as he once was, but guys, the Texans gave Carlos Hyde 255 touches last year. Opportunity is key in fantasy football, and Johnson appears to be in line for a lot of it in 2020, making him a low-end RB2 with upside for more should he actually be healthy. The Jaguars decided to release Fournette just 10 days prior to the NFL season. Whew. The Bucs are the team who signed him, making their backfield a bit cloudier, which is problematic, because it was already cloudy. It's possible that we see Fournette share time with Ronald Jones the same way we saw with Peyton Barber. I do believe that Fournette is the most talented back on the roster, but I also felt like Jones was last year. What a mess. I wouldn't want to rely on anything more than RB3 production right out of the gate. There's top-12 upside here for sure, but it could just be a messy timeshare.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Acquired in a deal that sent DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona, Johnson has averaged 3.6 yards per carry over 30 games the past three seasons. Don't expect him to reach 50 catches with Duke Johnson having caught 30 passes over the second half of last season.Tampa was an ideal landing place for Fournette: There's very little talent to compete with for snaps, and the Bucs' potent passing attack gives him a high TD ceiling. Still, Fournette has done very little as a pro to warrant more than a part-time committee role.
John Hesterman
Dynasty League Football
Fournette lands in a favorable spot and should receive a steady workload with Brady and crew.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Johnson's now joining the Houston Texans and there is a huge workload waiting for him. If he can stay healthy, Johnson should easily return value this season. However, the last time that we saw Johnson, he looked like a shell of his former self. Additionally, Johnson's true fantasy value has come through his contributions in the receiving game. In Houston, with Duke Johnson also on this roster, it's difficult to see David Johnson seeing significant volume. If you draft David Johnson this year, you're betting on him staying fully healthy and him seeing a ton of work in the receiving game. Otherwise, he may go down as a wasted pick when it's all said and done.Fournette is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and joins what should be a prolific offense this season. While it's going to be near impossible for him to take over this starting job in 10 days, Fournette should receive some light work throughout the first few weeks of the season. However, after a few weeks, I'm projecting Fournette to take over the majority of the work in this backfield. It should still be somewhat of a committee approach with Ronald Jones, but Fournette will have some low-end RB2 value on a weekly basis. There is a small percentage chance that Fournette eventually takes over this job completely and sends Jones to the bench, but you shouldn't let that possibility affect your drafting judgement. The most likely scenario is that he's going to split time with Jones in this backfield and we should draft him accordingly.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
After a horrid finish to the 2019 season, many fantasy players seem to be avoiding David Johnson. What people are forgetting is that prior to his injury last year, Johnson was the 6th highest scoring RB with an average of over 17 points per game. Now he joins another high-flying offense in Houston and should be in a great spot to outperform his current ADP.Now a member of the Buccaneers, Fournette's volume is bound to decrease from his usual workhorse role on the Jaguars. It's not all bad though considering he is joining what looks to be one of the best offenses in football. There will definitely be a timeshare between himself and Ronald Jones but I expect Fournette to be on the winning side of that split. I like him a lot more as a flex option than an RB2.

Bill O'Brien has a long history of leaning on (often mediocre) running backs for 220-270 carries. Arian Foster, Alfred Blue, Lamar Miller and Carlos Hyde all became somewhat fantasy relevant in this offense and David Johnson is next on the list. The real question is how he fits in the passing game and that will make all the difference. The other D. Johnson, Duke, will certainly be a hindrance but we've seen DJ prove impossible to take off the field when things go right and it's just possible he explodes for a big season. I don't love the odds of that but even though this is very must Deshaun Watson's offense, I do think David Johnson has a very solid floor and provides a nice safe pick with solid upside.Leonard Fournette has shockingly been dropped from the Jaguars just weeks from the start of the season. It will be very difficult for him to provide meaningful value when turning up on an offense with so little time to learn it and the Buccs is an awful landing spot for all involved. With five relevant backs, Tampa Bay is a backfield worth avoiding as Fournette is unlikely to provide any reliable value. He shouldn't be dropped outside of shallow leagues but he is a fade in drafts.

Fournette signed with the Bucs after being released by the Jaguars. His contract ($2 million base, incentives based on playing time and rushing yards) suggests that he is expecting to see significant work. Still, given that he signed with the team a little more than a week before the season begins, it's going to take him time to get acclimated to the offense. Fournette can be considered a Flex play, but don't expect him to contribute immediately and, even when he does, he won't be a workhorse back given the presence of Ronald Jones.

Will be taking advantage of his 1 highly publicized run while injured in 2019, of him trying to run around the corner at the speed of your grandpa while injured. Expecting amazing health? Not necessarily, but we've seen what a 1 dimensional, rather bland back can do with the reigns, in Carlos Hyde, in 2019. I'll gladly scoop Johnson as my RB3Oof. No matter what you think of Fournette, touching the ball 341 times, and only getting 3TDs is not sustainable, in a good way. I don't have a problem thinking Chris Thompson or Laviska take away a significant amount of targets, I just need the TDs to normalize to get ROI.

Johnson has lost a step, but O'Brien fed Lamar Miller. Boring albeit safe RB2 selection.A polarizing pick this season, his passing volume should decrease but his TD volume is bound to increase. Jacksonville won't be a top offense, so there's risk here.

Wow has Leonard Fournette been thrown under the fantasy bus lately. Sure the Jags are bad but he can produce for your squad. Some QB stability will go a long way too this season

Hasn't been good as a runner since his breakout campaign in 2016. Has still been efficient as a receiver and that's likely where he will thrive. Will be 29 this season which is well past the peak age for RBs. Duke Johnson has been great and efficient will be behind him if David falters and underperforms this year. rWas a true workhorse last year with 100 targets and 265 rush attempts. Concerns with new offensive weapons and scheme that may limit Fournette's receiving production. Also issues with team fit as they tried trading him this offseason and may not utilize him as a workhorse.

If his health holds, his share of the HOU backfield workload should be major, but his potential in the passing game far outweighs his ground game at this point in careerBiggest concern is not whether he'll see positive TD regression or take a major receptions hit with C. Thompson around, it's if JAX remains committed to him if/when losses pile up

365 touches last season and only 57 evaded tackles. 90th in fantasy points per opportunity. Jay Gruden brought in his guy Chris Thompson to catch passes out of the backfield.

I am COMPLETELY off of DJ this season. He has been a below average or injured back every year since 2016. I repeat, 2016. If you want to bet on a running back renaissance after three years of mediocrity, so be it, I will not be taking that bet.

I do not think we will ever see 2016 David Johnson again. He joins a new team this year and he is now the lead back in the Texans offense and that should be an upgrade from RB Carlos Hyde. If he can stay healthy, Johnson should be a RB2 with some upside.

Leonard Fournette only scored three rushing touchdowns in 2019, but they accounted for every rushing score for the Jaguars. Those three rushing touchdowns were the lowest from a team since the 2005 Cardinals. Only 13 other teams in NFL history finished with that low of a total. (@LateRoundQB) I don't completely expect Fournette to stay as healthy as he did last year, but we should see some TD regression in 2020. In 2019 he set career highs in: games played: 15, rush yards: 1152, rushing 1st downs: 52, yards per att: 4.3, targets: 100, receptions: 76, receiving yards: 522, total touches: 341, total yards: 1674... for 6-10 team (@DFFMemphis)

The Texans have a glaring backfield need. Will DJ get himself in tip-top shape to shine here?Despite constant trade rumors, Fournette returns as the lone viable backfield option. Don't love his fit in Jay Gruden's pass-centric attack, but just some slight positive TD regression is likely.
