Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
I was the one pounding the drum for David Montgomery last season when he was being drafted as the 25th RB off the board. With that being said, in no way did I anticipate a top-5 finish! Despite a truly terrible offense, Montgomery produced for fantasy managers and helped deliver some titles with his dominant stretch to end the year. Unfortunately, we shouldn't be expecting that same level of dominance in 2021. Tarik Cohen will be back and healthy, which means a dramatic dip in receiving production for Montgomery. Additionally, Damien Williams was added to this backfield to take the Cordarrelle Patterson role, which will take some carries away too. Montgomery is still going to provide fantasy managers with a very safe floor week after week, but we need to temper our expectations for the young RB heading into this season. Fantasy players that draft Montgomery thinking that they're going to get 2020 production are most likely going to be disappointed. It's safe to view Montgomery as a mid-range RB2. My Very Early Projection: 249-1058-8 rushing & 31-238-1 receiving. When he's healthy and in the lineup, Johnson's target totals rival that of the top-tier fantasy wideouts. While he's struggled with drops - 14 in 2020 - Big Ben repeatedly looked his way. As long as he's on the field, Johnson's going to be a safe fantasy option that comes with a very high floor. He'll need to clean up the drops to ascend into the top-15 at the WR position, but the opportunity is absolutely in front of him. If Claypool takes a big step forward in 2021 though, that could take away some of the opportunity from Johnson in what promises to be a crowded offense. It's enough to at least be aware of when you're on the clock.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Sure, Montgomery finished as the RB4 last year. There were many factors that led to that, particularly the injury to Tarik Cohen, freeing up tons of targets in the passing game. Over the course of Montgomery's short career, he's played 19 games with Cohen and 12 games without him. In the games with Cohen, he averaged 2.32 targets per game. In the 12 games without him, that number rose to 4.92 targets per game. Well, Cohen is back, and the team signed Damien Williams, who's a better receiving back than Montgomery. On top of Cohen missing, the Bears had a ridiculously easy schedule down the stretch, playing against the Packers twice, Lions, Texans, Vikings, and Jaguars to close out the season. Did you know that Montgomery was the RB20 after 10 weeks (prior to starting that schedule)? He's a fine low-end RB2, but don't go about your day thinking you're getting a steal in the fourth round or anything.Despite missing one full game and a large portion of another, Johnson finished with 144 targets in 2020, which ranked sixth among wide receivers. Unfortunately, he was not particularly efficient with them, averaging just 6.4 yards per target. Part of his issues were drops, but Ben Roethlisberger's drop-down mentality certainly didn't help, either. Still, chasing targets at wide receiver is never a bad thing. If Johnson would've averaged just 7.4 yards per target (easily attainable), he would've finished as the WR14. He should be a safe high-floor WR2 with upside for top-12 numbers.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
Johnson had the 5th most targets per game of all WRs last year. He was the WR8 in full ppr weeks 8-16, averaging 11 targets per game.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Montgomery had 237.8 fantasy points last year, but that was fueled by the final five games coming against teams that were in the Bottom-7 against fantasy running backs. I like Montgomery to be a solid running back in 2021, but I view him as more of a RB2 than an RB1 with Tarik Cohen coming back from injury.Johnson's drops are the biggest question mark for Johnson headed into the 2021 season. There is no denying the talent, but Johnson needs to be more consistent to be better than a WR3.
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
The addition of OT Teven Jenkins in the draft helps bolster a Bears line that badly needed an upgrade. The scouting report on Jenkens is he is a mauler. Hopefully he can pass block too. Chicago also traded up to take a certain QB who played his college ball at THE Ohio State University, Justin Fields. Monty needs this offense to take a step forward and score some TDs for him to reach his potential. I'm still skeptical. After all this is the Bears we're talking about.See Juju Smith Schuster. The Steelers offense is in trouble this year. Pick Pittsburgh players at your own peril. Maybe they score a TD here and there, but there won't be too many offensive shootouts. Big Ben is washed and he's still the best QB they have- ugh!
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
*UPDATE* I do LOVE the Fields pick for this entire offense. No one finished hotter, but Montgomery preyed on weakest SOS and w/ no Cohen stealing work and now Damien Williams is here w/ Matt "Too Cute" Nagy returning to OC after Bill Lazor called the shots for DMont's explosion. Everything's stacking up ugly, besides Fields... which could offset it all.Still the top-dog here, but JuJu's return takes a huge hit out of Johnson's ceiling.
