Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
While Doctson compiled 502 yards in an underwhelming sophomore campaign, he received 56 of last season's 78 targets over Washington's final eight games. He also reeled in just 35 of those looks and now must establish a rapport with Alex Smith. Yet drafters can do worse in terms of a dart throw. The hype has dissipated, and few pass-catchers who led his team in red-zone targets (16) are available so late.Jackson mustered a career-low 47.7 YPG in Tampa Bay after ending his Washington tenure with his fifth career 1,000-yard season. He also tallied two of his three TDs and his only two games with double-digit targets playing alongside Ryan Fitzpatrick, so Jameis Winston's three-game suspension could actually boost the 31-year-old wideout's stock. Since Chris Godwin could threaten his role, Jackson is no more than a matchup play better catered to Best Ball contests.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Jackson has been sharing some first-team opportunities with Chris Godwin, but has turned in a productive preseason, catching six passes for 127 yards overall. Jackson's first year in Tampa Bay was largely one to forget as he set career-lows in yards per game (47.7) and yards per reception (13.4). Turning 32-years-old during the season, Jackson will need to fight off Godwin for consistent targets, keeping him as a boom-or-bust fantasy option that will be better for bestball (Draftmaster) or DFS.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
We didn't get the best numbers from Doctson, so it makes sense why many will be avoiding him, but do consider that he is the Redskins' top receiver, and that is exactly why defenses focused on locking him down with their shadow corners. He had the single toughest set of matchups last season and as that lets up, we should see more in the way of production. Each and every season Jackson is healthy, he has been flex-worthy at the very least, but that may change this year with Chris Godwin starting. It isn't just that D-Jax is getting older, but that the Bucs have so many weapons in the passing game for him to share the load with.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
It's possible that Doctson moves up my draft board as the season nears, as I want to see how he and new quarterback Alex Smith gel in the preseason. Smith has traditionally been a quarterback who doesn't throw into tight coverage, and Doctson was among the worst in the league last year when it came to yards of separation at target. He was followed by some top-tier cornerbacks last year, so it's possible that will influence the numbers, but Smith's style seems to fit Jamison Crowder's and Jordan Reed's skill-set a bit more than Doctson's. He's got some potential, but the situation just doesn't seem to be ideal. When you watch as much football as I do, you see some things that some people may have missed. When it comes to Jackson, he and Jameis Winston were just a touch off on connecting for multiple 40-plus yard touchdowns, which would have dramatically changed how fantasy players valued him this offseason. There were four passes that I can recall right now that were within a yard or two of his hands that might turn into long touchdowns this year. Even in what was a "down year" for him, he produced WR3 numbers 50 percent of the time, which ranked 33rd among wide receivers. The lone thing that could get in the way of those numbers is Chris Godwin, who is someone who might start opposite Mike Evans in 2WR sets, and that would cripple Jackson's value. You need to pay attention to the depth chart as the preseason rolls along.
Staff Rankings
QB List
Looking to make the "sophomore jump", the athletically gifted 2nd year receiver must now compete with Paul Richardson for red zone and downfield targets while Jamison Crowder mans the slot. He COULD establish a large role with peak performance in the red zone, but with the pricey new signing occupying a similar role, I wouldn't bet on anything more than mediocre production.DJax lives and dies by his QB play. Last I checked, it's either Ryan Fitzpatrick or Famous Jameis Winston, soooooooooo not looking good. Oh, and those injuries too.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
Doctson has plenty of talent and will be given his chances to succeed. I'd like to see some of that success before going all-in on him, but if he falls, we know he'll get his targets.Jackson has a good chance to improve on his 2017 numbers, but he will likely be inconsistent, especially with Chris Godwin taking on a bigger role this year.
Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
Will have to compete with Richardson and Crowder for targets but will benefit from improved quarterback playJameis and Desean have made it a point to work on their chemistry this offseason; boom or bust weekly option with WR3 upside for the season
