FantasyPros
Freeman battled injuries in 2018 and he played only 2 games. He has had RB1 value in the past when healthy, but he is a huge durability risk in 2019 coming off a knee injury.Kittle had 88 receptions for 1,377 yards and 5 touchdowns on an offense that started 3 quarterbacks last year. There is an argument to be made that he is the best receiving tight end in football, but I would still rank him below Kelce due to the QB situation in San Francisco.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Do you remember Freeman's rookie year? Probably not, because it had him falling outside the top-35 running backs selected the following year. In that season, he totaled just 248 yards and one touchdown on 65 carries. That's significant because that's the only year he played under Dirk Koetter, who is now back in Atlanta as the coordinator. While Freeman will have a much bigger role, Koetter hasn't been able to boost a run-game during his time in Atlanta or Tampa Bay, so the ceiling has likely dropped for Freeman. And that's not to mention Ito Smith, whose role grew as the year went on in 2018You have to give Kittle a ton of credit for what he did in 2018. He played with a combination of Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard, and Nick Mullens yet managed to set the yardage record for a tight end. Getting Garoppolo back for the full season should help, but he may lose a few targets considering Dante Pettis is now in a starting role, while the 49ers drafted Deebo Samuel in the second-round and Jalen Hurd in the third-round. He's still a force to be reckoned with and one of the three tight ends worth a pick in the first three rounds
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
It's all about health with Freeman. Tevin is gone and he has the skill-set of a feature back. I like him as a RB2. He just needs to stay on the field.Kittle is the most explosive tight end in the league, but will Jimmy G help or hurt him? We don't know yet, so he's 3rd for me.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Freeman missed almost all of last season due to injuries, but had put up anywhere between very good and elite seasons in the three prior years. With Tevin Coleman gone, Freeman should see an increaed workload, even with the presence of Ito Smith and others in the backfield. There are legitimate injury concerns with Freeman, but the Falcons may look to control the clock more and emphasize the run given their improved defense. All in all, Freeman makes a solid RB2, one with high upside. The absence of Jimmy Garoppolo had no impact on Kittle, who racked up an incredible 1,377 yards last season. His record-setting total was largely due to a ridiculous amount of yards after the catch, the most in the NFL. Some regression could be expected, but given the enormous upgrade in quarterback with Garoppolo healthy, perhaps it shouldn't be as much as you think. Kittle may still be behind Travis Kelce as the top tight end in fantasy, but the gap is narrow.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Freeman is a solid option at his current ADP but there is some risk, obviously, after he missed all of last season. Koetter has also not really been known for his running game. With that being said, Freeman is also only a year removed from 1180/8 total in 14 games in 2017. He should have a solid weekly floor.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Proven fantasy RB Top 10 upside, and with T. Coleman off to SF, the backup vulture threat is less a threat than ever - it all comes down to health (if he plays close to a full season, he'll be a bargain)Led all TEs in rec. yards (1377) and his 10.2 yards gained average after the catch was more than a yard higher than any other receiver in the league, and 3 yards higher than his expected yards after the catch avg. (7.0)
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
If you like lengthy injury histories, then let me introduce you to Devonta Freeman! Freeman has suffered a pulled hamstring, a hip strain, an MCL sprain, a PCL sprain, a knee bruise, 3 separate concussions, a foot bruise and then finally lost most of last year due to sports hernia surgery. Aside from his terrible rookie season, he's been extremely productive whole he's been on the field. Now let's talk about his offensive coordinator. Dirk Koetter has returned as the team's OC. He had that job from 2012-2014, then he was hired as the Bucs OC in 2015, and then served as their head coach from 1016-2018. In that time here is where his teams have ranked in rushing yards per game: 27/32/24/4/25/27/28. So in other words, Freeman is a RB with a high likelihood of injury, on an offense run by a man that has no idea how to run the football. What Freeman has going for him is 1) His talent...and 2) There's no one behind him on the depth chart. They have a few guys who can join together to fill potential void if he goes down, but they don't have a single RB that's going to challenge him for touches. Therefore, as long as he stays healthy, he's going to crush.George Kittle is going to be the centerpiece of the 49ers passing offense. So while we can't expect him to break the single season receiving record again, he should still have a great season. We still don't have a large enough sample to know exactly how well Kittle will perform with Garoppolo...but it's safe to assume he's not a downgrade from what they had last season. Kittle is now entering his third season as a pro, at a position that's notoriously difficult for young players. He's also missed just one game in his short two year career, although it's worth noting that he still has suffered a few injuries over the past few years. I view Kittle as a safe pick in the third round if you want to target a TE early. Unfortunately, he routinely gets taken in the second...an ADP which I'm less in love with.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
"Devonta Freeman is in good health and hasn't had any setbacks at the start of the preseason. Based on how he has practiced, Freeman should be in line for a bounce-back campaign."
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
It's tough to know if he can repeat a 88/1377/5 line, but it's important to note he only scored FIVE TDs. Even if his yardage and catches drop, he has the TD upside to make up for it.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
The Falcons have been banged up the last two years including Freeman himself but don't be surprised if this offensive line surges forward this year with all the talent they have. If that happens, Freeman could explode back into the top 10 fantasy running backs as we saw in 2015, 2016 and 2017 with his fantasy points per game. Not only did Kittle receive for more yards than any tight end in football history last year, but he did it with Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard as his quarterbacks. Enter Jimmy Garoppolo and we might see an even better season. Granted, the 49ers have some weapons in the passing game, but among them, Kittle is still the number one and you likely can't say that about Ertz in Philly with Alshon roaming around.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
We've seemingly forgotten about Devonta Freeman after his injury plagued 2018 season. Now, Freeman stands "alone" in that Atlanta backfield and is an incredible value in redraft leagues with his current ADP. Freeman's a solid bet for 240 carries and an increased volume in the passing game due to Tevin Coleman's absence. I'm drafting him wherever I can.We saw a complete emergence from George Kittle in 2018 that has lead to unimaginable hype for the young TE. With that being said, there's reason to be cautious with Kittle moving forward. We've seen a very small sample size with Kittle and Garoppolo and the 49ers added a bunch of other weapons to that offense this offseason. Kittle will still be heavily involved, but we may not see 1,300 receiving yards from him again in 2019...Temper your expectations, but still feel confident drafting Kittle in the 4th-5th rounds of your redraft leagues.
