FantasyPros
I love Royce Freeman's game, which is why I don't view Booker as a threat to him. With that being said, NFL teams sometimes do some weird things and make rookies "earn their stripes." Booker is someone who played behind C.J. Anderson the last few years, and the Broncos cut Anderson this offseason. Then they drafted Freeman in the third-round. What does that tell you about Booker? He's just a handcuff and not one that you should go out of your way to draft, as we've seen him in a workhorse role before back in 2016. It wasn't pretty. It's not an ideal situation in New York, but if you really think they'll lean on Isaiah Crowell more than they did Matt Forte, you're going about this the wrong way. Powell should at least have the same role he had last year, if not more. He finished as the RB26, less than double his current cost. He's not someone who will win you your fantasy league, but he can most definitely play a role. Knowing that he played the snaps with the first-team offense in their preseason game, it should give you a bit more confidence in drafting him.

QB List
Personally, I'm a Royce Freeman believer, and that's partly why I have Booker as low as I do. Could Booker get the majority of the work Week 1? Sure, that's definitely possible, but even if he does I don't expect him to hang onto the job for long. He's had and lost the starting job too many times for me to have any faith in him, and he ended the year last year with a -9.2% DVOA. However, he's still worth a grab in the later rounds on the chance that he gets the starting gig and hangs onto it-even if he's not that good, being a starting running back in the NFL is worth something in fantasy.I'd personally love to see Powell get the running back gig in New York to himself, but I've wanted to see that for years and the Jets apparently hate him. The Jets backfield is really muddled, with the additions of Isaiah Crowell and Thomas Rawls this offseason and the drafting of Trenton Cannon (not to mention the fact that Elijah McGuire still exists, though he's not healthy) makes drafting Powell risky at best, especially in standard leagues.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
There are reports that Booker will share the load with Royce Freeman, but I just haven't seen enough out of Booker to take that news as actionable in these rankings. I believe Freeman gets some leeway and plenty of chances to lead the Broncos on the ground. The Jets backfield likely won't produce a strong fantasy player this season but Powell and Crowell are the best of the group and I think Powell can play well with full-time work if Crowell is hurt or can't produce.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Could get first crack at being the lead back in Denver. Booker's per-carry average of 3.6 yards is 27th out of the 29 backs in 2016-17 who had at least 250 carries (Booker had 253). "He's got to come out and work and earn the right to be the (first) guy," Joseph said. "He understands that with C.J. gone, it's a wide open race. He's a good football player, but we want more from him, obviously." denverpost.com He only had 2 weeks of RB1 production and another 3 where he didn't kill you in 2017.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
Averaging 3.6 YPC over two years, picking Booker is a bet of him getting more volume than rookie Royce Freeman. He found pay dirt once despite receiving 17 red-zone carries, but also produced 14.8 PPR points in his only game playing the majority of Denver's snaps. Freeman looks poised to assume C.J. Anderson's leading role, which leaves Booker as bench fodder. Fantasy gamers would love to see the Jets give Powell a leading role, but they instead signed Isaiah Crowell to replace Matt Forte. Any gains from Powell's career-high 178 carries washed out by his receptions (23) and targets (33) getting gutted from 2017's 58 catches in 74 targets. He also tied Doug Martin for the worst success rate (35 %) of 47 RBs with at least 100 rushes. Yet despite the limited workload and snap counts (51 % in 2016, 42 % in 2017), the underrated back has netted RB22 and 26 finishes over the last two years. Now that the breakout buzz has withered, he's a decent late-round value at a discounted RB57 ADP.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
While it seems that the Broncos drafted Royce Freeman to jump in as the lead-back from Week 1, it is far from certain at this point. Booker is said to have a shot at the job, so keep an eye out and draft him in the meantime as a shot in the dark.We have never seen Powell start an entire season and he is now 30 years old so we may never know how good he could have been, but he has killed in fantasy when given the lion's share of touches. There is a chance it happens to start the season with only Crowell and McGuire to beat out.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Booker is a solid talent but he has been a bust so far and he has competition. I like him as a late flier but I can't invest early in him
Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
This is Freeman's backfield but Booker has the talent to carve out a significant roleHopefully now we all know what the Jets knew, Powell simply not talented enough for featured role
