There are reports that Booker will share the load with Royce Freeman, but I just haven't seen enough out of Booker to take that news as actionable in these rankings. I believe Freeman gets some leeway and plenty of chances to lead the Broncos on the ground.Lamar Miller hasn't shown us that he deserves the majority of the work in the Houston backfield, so Foreman has an opening to take some of those snaps and touches for himself. Foreman, unfortunately, has yet to be cleared to practice and will need to come on strong in pre-season. UPDATE: Foreman may not be ready for Week 1. Take him off your draft boards until we get some positive news.
Staff Rankings
QB List
Personally, I'm a Royce Freeman believer, and that's partly why I have Booker as low as I do. Could Booker get the majority of the work Week 1? Sure, that's definitely possible, but even if he does I don't expect him to hang onto the job for long. He's had and lost the starting job too many times for me to have any faith in him, and he ended the year last year with a -9.2% DVOA. However, he's still worth a grab in the later rounds on the chance that he gets the starting gig and hangs onto it-even if he's not that good, being a starting running back in the NFL is worth something in fantasy.I'm a big Foreman fan and it was really sad to see his season cut short by an Achilles injury last year. It's not guaranteed that he'll be ready for Week 1, but he'll likely be back quickly, and that makes him an interesting flier, as it seems like the Texans aren't exactly sold on Lamar Miller being their guy.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
I love Royce Freeman's game, which is why I don't view Booker as a threat to him. With that being said, NFL teams sometimes do some weird things and make rookies "earn their stripes." Booker is someone who played behind C.J. Anderson the last few years, and the Broncos cut Anderson this offseason. Then they drafted Freeman in the third-round. What does that tell you about Booker? He's just a handcuff and not one that you should go out of your way to draft, as we've seen him in a workhorse role before back in 2016. It wasn't pretty. It was a shame to see Foreman go down with a devastating Achilles injury last year, as he was starting to cut into Lamar Miller's workload. In fact, there were rumors that the Texans may have cut Miller if Foreman would be guaranteed healthy by Week 1. Unfortunately, we don't know if he will be, and there are rumors that he could start the year on the PUP list, which would put him out the first six weeks. He's someone to keep an eye on throughout the offseason, as his fantasy stock depends on how healthy he is. His final 44 carries netted him 213 yards (4.84 YPC) and two touchdowns.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
Averaging 3.6 YPC over two years, picking Booker is a bet of him getting more volume than rookie Royce Freeman. He found pay dirt once despite receiving 17 red-zone carries, but also produced 14.8 PPR points in his only game playing the majority of Denver's snaps. Freeman looks poised to assume C.J. Anderson's leading role, which leaves Booker as bench fodder. There's a perfectly plausible scenario where Foreman breaks out in a seismic way. The rookie found the end zone twice before an Achilles injury halted his gradual emergence. Although his Week 1 availability remains uncertain, he could return to compete with Lamar Miller, who lost playing time to Alfred Blue last December. A healthy Foreman receiving regular reps alongside a healthy Deshaun Watson possesses legitimate RB1 upside, but there's enough risk to keep his price modest.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Could get first crack at being the lead back in Denver. Booker's per-carry average of 3.6 yards is 27th out of the 29 backs in 2016-17 who had at least 250 carries (Booker had 253). "He's got to come out and work and earn the right to be the (first) guy," Joseph said. "He understands that with C.J. gone, it's a wide open race. He's a good football player, but we want more from him, obviously." denverpost.com Could be on the PUP list for the first 6 weeks. I expected him to take over as lead back in Houston, looks like we will need to wait for the second half of the season.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Booker is a solid talent but he has been a bust so far and he has competition. I like him as a late flier but I can't invest early in himHealth is key but he looked pretty good before going down last year. Lamar Miller shouldn't be a reason to avoid this guy
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
While it seems that the Broncos drafted Royce Freeman to jump in as the lead-back from Week 1, it is far from certain at this point. Booker is said to have a shot at the job, so keep an eye out and draft him in the meantime as a shot in the dark.Foreman has enormous upside as a breakout candidate, but first he will have to manage to bounce back completely from a torn achillies, which is a tough task, unseat Lamar Miller, then hope Watson is himself again. That seems like a tall task, but the lottery ticket is worth the risk.
Raju Byfield
Win My Fantasy League
This is Freeman's backfield but Booker has the talent to carve out a significant roleAs long as he is ready for opening week he should pace the backfield in carries and touchdowns
