While it seems that the Broncos drafted Royce Freeman to jump in as the lead-back from Week 1, it isn't certain quite yet. Booker is said to have a shot at the job, but it also wouldn't be surprising if he was cut for Phillip Lindsay.
Staff Rankings
QB List
Personally, I'm a Royce Freeman believer, and that's partly why I have Booker as low as I do. Could Booker get the majority of the work Week 1? Sure, that's definitely possible, but even if he does I don't expect him to hang onto the job for long. He's had and lost the starting job too many times for me to have any faith in him, and he ended the year last year with a -9.2% DVOA. However, he's still worth a grab in the later rounds on the chance that he gets the starting gig and hangs onto it-even if he's not that good, being a starting running back in the NFL is worth something in fantasy.Blount went to basically the worst team possible for his skill set in the Lions, as Jim Bob Cooter enjoys his receiving backs and Blount can't catch a pass to save his life. I would expect him to reprise the role he had in Philadelphia as the short-yardage back, which means he'll get some touchdowns, but the Lions are not the Eagles-they have one of the worst offensive lines in football-so don't expect last year to repeat itself.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
There are reports that Booker will share the load with Royce Freeman, but I just haven't seen enough out of Booker to take that news as actionable in these rankings. I believe Freeman gets some leeway and plenty of chances to lead the Broncos on the ground.Blount hasn't always gotten a ton of work, but he's always been productive. His inability in the receiving game is what will continue to hold him back, but I like his fit with the Lions, because they very much need someone to grab those goal-line touchdowns and other short-yardage plays.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
I love Royce Freeman's game, which is why I don't view Booker as a threat to him. With that being said, NFL teams sometimes do some weird things and make rookies "earn their stripes." Booker is someone who played behind C.J. Anderson the last few years, and the Broncos cut Anderson this offseason. Then they drafted Freeman in the third-round. What does that tell you about Booker? He's just a handcuff and not one that you should go out of your way to draft, as we've seen him in a workhorse role before back in 2016. It wasn't pretty.Potentially the worst landing spot for someone with his skill-set, as players who don't participate in the passing-game don't stay on the field under Jim Bob Cooter. It's possible that new head coach Matt Patricia wanted Blount from his days in New England, but when they drafted Kerryon Johnson in the second-round, it pretty much buried the hope for Blount. He may score from time-to-time, but you're better off letting someone else draft him.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
Averaging 3.6 YPC over two years, picking Booker is a bet of him getting more volume than rookie Royce Freeman. He found pay dirt once despite receiving 17 red-zone carries, but also produced 14.8 PPR points in his only game playing the majority of Denver's snaps. Freeman looks poised to assume C.J. Anderson's leading role, which leaves Booker as bench fodder. Of all the rushers with over 25 red-zone carries, none made fewer-end zone trips than Blount (two), who amassed minus-seven yards on 10 carries inside the 5-yard line. But he's big and scored 18 TDs with New England in 2016, so poor performance won't necessarily deter Detroit from feeding him near the pylons. As demonstrated by last year's RB39 rank, that's the only way he'll maintain relevancy. Kerryon Johnson will likely outpace Blount in rushes, and the veteran has stockpiled one more catch over his nine-year career (54) than Theo Riddick recorded last season.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Could get first crack at being the lead back in Denver. Booker's per-carry average of 3.6 yards is 27th out of the 29 backs in 2016-17 who had at least 250 carries (Booker had 253). "He's got to come out and work and earn the right to be the (first) guy," Joseph said. "He understands that with C.J. gone, it's a wide open race. He's a good football player, but we want more from him, obviously." denverpost.com

Booker is a solid talent but he has been a bust so far and he has competition. I like him as a late flier but I can't invest early in him

This is Freeman's backfield but Booker has the talent to carve out a significant roleWill serve as short yardage and goal line battering ram and carries significant TD upside week to week
