FantasyPros
While Rex Burkhead is still is town and Sony Michel joined the group, remember that it was James White who finished the season getting goal-line work and is killing it in the preseason. If it carries over into the season, he would make for a terrific flex player week to week, especially early while Michel and Burkhead are banged up.Martin has been an RB1 multiple times in his career and it wouldn't surprise anyone if he suddenly returned to that type of production. With that said, he it would take an injury Marshawn Lynch to get him enough touches to make some noise.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
White has finished as a top-50 running back in each of the last three seasons, but never better than the RB35 in standard leagues. He's someone who will hurt you more than often because he simply doesn't get enough weekly touches to be consistent, meaning he'll need to score a touchdown to not completely bust. With Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead on the field, it's not likely that White earns any more work in 2018. He's just a spot-starter and one who'll be incredibly difficult to predict, though he should have more value over the first four weeks with Julian Edelman suspended. It seems like his ADP may move up sooner than I'd hoped, but Martin is one of my favorite late-round sleepers. Word has come out that he looks phenomenal at OTAs. Battling a 32-year-old Marshawn Lynch who has a history of back problems? Playing behind a top-five offensive line? Sign me up. It's rare to find a running back being draft so late who has multiple 1,400-yard rushing seasons on his resume. While it's Lynch's job, it seems like Jon Gruden has a clear role for Martin in the offense.
Staff Rankings
QB List
White will be what he's always been-a worthwhile add in deeper PPR leagues and that's about it. He's not supplanting Rex Burkhead or Sony Michel in the pecking order any more than he was going to supplant Burkhead or Dion Lewis last year.Martin has and continues to be a frustrating player to own in fantasy. He was terrible last year, ending the season with an awful -22.5% DVOA, good for dead-last among running backs with at least 100 carries last season. Now, he's the backup to Marshawn Lynch and is little more than a somewhat valuable handcuff, given that, if Lynch gets hurt, he'll be behind a better offensive line and in a better offense than he was in with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Should have a consistent role, especially with Michel going down with a bad knee.Doug Martin has multiple 1,400-yard rushing seasons on his resume and the word on the street is positive in Oakland. He's a nice value at his current ADP (163 overall, RB54 on MFL10). @EricNMoody "Jon Gruden is big on (Doug Martin), who is slated for "a bigger workload than your traditional backup running back." MercuryNews.com Among qualified RBs, Doug Martin was last in success rate (35%), missed tackles forced per carry (.04), and percentage of carries to gain 5+ yards (20%) last year. @GrahamBarfield Doug Martin has had a top-12 RB finish once every three years, he has been trash for the past two. He will have to be very fortunate to even get the opportunity to continue this pattern.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
White doesn't have a great upside but will continue to see enough work in a great offense to be worth drafting.Martin is a tough nut to crack because we know he has the ability but we sure haven't seen it lately. The good news for him is that he gets a big upgrade with Oakland's offensive line and Marshawn Lynch has some age and injury history that could keep him from a big workload.
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
PPR drafters seeking a cheap share in New England's offense can snatch White at a RB50 ADP. Although he easily exceeded that value in the past three years (RB39, 26, 38), it's hard to get excited about a low-level flex play who produced 11 receiving yards or fewer in six of 14 games while totaling 171 rushing yards. He'll probably outperform his ADP in PPR formats, but those points will come in unpredictable spurts.Martin has cleared 1,400 rushing yards twice in his career, but he has also averaged 2.9 YPC in back-to-back seasons derailed by injuries. He hasn't rushed for 100 yards in a single game since garnering 235 on Nov. 22, 2015. According to ESPN's Bill Barnwell, nobody generated negative expected points on a higher percentage of runs than the Muscle Hamster's 71.7 in 2017. Jon Gruden should quickly see that Marshawn Lynch is the superior veteran RB deserving of Oakland's workload.
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
The Pats are just loaded at RB, otherwise White's versatility and PPR upside would be a lot more alluring

Win My Fantasy League
Takes a major hit with Sony Michel in town Looked done in Tampa Bay but could see a resurgence as Lynch's backup; one of the top handcuffs to own as of today
