FantasyPros
Of all the rushers with over 25 red-zone carries, none made fewer end-zone trips than Blount (two), who amassed minus-seven yards on 10 carries inside the 5-yard line. But he's big and scored 18 TDs with New England in 2016, so poor performance won't necessarily deter Detroit from feeding him near the pylons. As demonstrated by last year's RB39 rank, that's the only way he'll maintain relevancy. Kerryon Johnson will likely outpace Blount in rushes, and the veteran has stockpiled one more catch over his nine-year career (54) than Theo Riddick recorded last season. Martin has cleared 1,400 rushing yards twice in his career, but he has also averaged 2.9 YPC in back-to-back seasons derailed by injuries. He hasn't rushed for 100 yards in a single game since garnering 235 on Nov. 22, 2015. According to ESPN's Bill Barnwell, nobody generated negative expected points on a higher percentage of runs than the Muscle Hamster's 71.7 in 2017. Jon Gruden should quickly see that Marshawn Lynch is the superior veteran RB deserving of Oakland's workload.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Martin has been an RB1 multiple times in his career and it wouldn't surprise anyone if he suddenly returned to that type of production. With that said, it would take an injured Marshawn Lynch to get him enough touches to make some noise.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Potentially the worst landing spot for someone with his skill-set, as players who don't participate in the passing-game don't stay on the field under Jim Bob Cooter. It's possible that new head coach Matt Patricia wanted Blount from his days in New England, but when they drafted Kerryon Johnson in the second-round, it pretty much buried the hope for Blount. He may score from time-to-time, but you're better off letting someone else draft him. It seems like his ADP may move up sooner than I'd hoped, but Martin is one of my favorite late-round sleepers. Word has come out that he looks phenomenal at OTAs. Battling a 32-year-old Marshawn Lynch who has a history of back problems? Playing behind a top-five offensive line? Sign me up. It's rare to find a running back being draft so late who has multiple 1,400-yard rushing seasons on his resume. While it's Lynch's job, it seems like Jon Gruden has a clear role for Martin in the offense.
Staff Rankings
QB List
Blount went to basically the worst team possible for his skill set in the Lions, as Jim Bob Cooter enjoys his receiving backs and Blount can't catch a pass to save his life. I would expect him to reprise the role he had in Philadelphia as the short-yardage back, which means he'll get some touchdowns, but the Lions are not the Eagles-they have one of the worst offensive lines in football-so don't expect last year to repeat itself.Martin has and continues to be a frustrating player to own in fantasy. He was terrible last year, ending the season with an awful -22.5% DVOA, good for dead-last among running backs with at least 100 carries last season. Now, he's the backup to Marshawn Lynch and is little more than a somewhat valuable handcuff, given that, if Lynch gets hurt, he'll be behind a better offensive line and in a better offense than he was in with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Chet Gresham
WalterFootball
Blount hasn't always gotten a ton of work, but he's always been productive. His inability in the receiving game is what will continue to hold him back, but I like his fit with the Lions, because they very much need someone to grab those goal-line touchdowns and other short-yardage plays.Martin is a tough nut to crack because we know he has the ability but we sure haven't seen it lately. The good news for him is that he gets a big upgrade with Oakland's offensive line and Marshawn Lynch has some age and injury history that could keep him from a big workload.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Doug Martin has multiple 1,400-yard rushing seasons on his resume and the word on the street is positive in Oakland. He's a nice value at his current ADP (163 overall, RB54 on MFL10). @EricNMoody "Jon Gruden is big on (Doug Martin), who is slated for "a bigger workload than your traditional backup running back." MercuryNews.com Among qualified RBs, Doug Martin was last in success rate (35%), missed tackles forced per carry (.04), and percentage of carries to gain 5+ yards (20%) last year. @GrahamBarfield Doug Martin has had a top-12 RB finish once every three years, he has been trash for the past two. He will have to be very fortunate to even get the opportunity to continue this pattern.

Win My Fantasy League
Will serve as short yardage and goal line battering ram and carries significant TD upside week to weekLooked done in Tampa Bay but could see a resurgence as Lynch's backup; one of the top handcuffs to own as of today
