Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Our perception of Ezekiel Elliott may be a bit skewed after his lackluster performance for fantasy last season. However, we need to remember the full context of the situation and recognize that Zeke was a top-tier fantasy option through the first five weeks of the season. He was the RB3 when Dak Prescott was healthy and on the field and was averaging a healthy 19.9 fantasy points per game. With Dak presumably back and ready to go for Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season, Zeke's a fantastic option again this season to lead your team as a RB1. If you happen to get him at a bit of a discount because of what happened last season, that's just simply icing on the cake.Looking at what Arthur Smith did in Tennessee with Derrick Henry, it would be to assume that he wants to build the same type of offense here in Atlanta. If that is the case, then Davis is going to step right into the Henry role, right? Unfortunately, there is only Henry and Davis certainly isn't him. There's an incredible opportunity for Davis to be a solid RB2 for fantasy purposes this season, but the question revolves around how long can he withstand an increased workload? As the season progressed last year, we saw Davis wear down as he took on the lead role in CMC's absence and there's a strong possibility that that happens again in 2021. I believe we could even see another free agent RB like Adrian Peterson added to this backfield as the off-season progresses, which would immediately put Davis into the RB3 conversation. We'll have to wait and see with Davis as we get closer to fantasy drafts, but he could be a solid option to start the season that starts to wear down as the workload takes it toll.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Follow the production in the first round. There's just one player who's finished as a top-12 running back five times since 2015. That player is Elliott, and as crazy as it sounds, he wasn't even in the league in 2015. "But Mike, Elliott tanked last year to RB11." The entire team sank without Dak Prescott, but in the five games with him, Elliott was the No. 3 running back in fantasy. If he keeps falling until the end of the first round, there will be a lot of championship rosters from that area of drafts. My guess is that analysts are worried about the Falcons adding a free agent running back because even my RB24 ranking feels a bit low for a back who should have no issue getting 15-plus touches per game. That would amount to 240-plus touches on the season. There have been 144 running backs who've hit that mark over the last 10 years and none have finished worse than RB28 (his current ECR). In fact, just 10 of those running backs (6.9 percent) have finished worse than RB20. If the Falcons don't add anyone of significance, I'll be moving him up even more.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Elliott was very disappointing in 2020, but he also did not have Dak Prescott most of the year and the Cowboys line was decimated by injuries. He also had 197.7 fantasy points, which was still 11th among fantasy running backs. I still think Elliott is in the RB1 mix, although this is a big year for him. He needs to rebound to show he still has what it takes to anchor a fantasy team.Davis is going to be the starter in Atlanta, but they had one of the worst rushing offenses in the NFL and their offensive line needs work. Davis is a flex option on a team that will be throwing the ball a lot this year.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
Davis scares me because most mid-career breakouts don't pan out in Year N+1. Davis is a special case because he changed teams, but the point remains that sustained success is rare. @JackMiller02 Davis is a case where projections can get you in trouble. Tough to NOT project him for big volume right now. But he's probably not as safe a bet to actually get that volume as it appears right now. @SmolaDS
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
The Cowboys offense was decimated by injuries in 2020. However, before Dak got hurt they were rolling. The concerns with Zeke are 1.) He's had off the field issues in the past. There's always a risk he acts like a knucklehead and gets suspended. 2.) If Dak gets injured again the Cowboys offense will struggle. 3.) The Cowboys schedule isn't easy. They play a lot of tough defenses in 2021. Washington's defense in particular is menacing and they have to play them twice-ugh! I think Zeke will do better, but that Dallas schedule doesn't have as many cupcakes as I'd like.Eh, I'm not really comfortable with this ranking. This could go off the rails quick. Here's what I'm thinking, if the Falcons keep things the way they are Davis could do well. They'll be trailing, so the game script isn't good, but Kyle Pitts will draw plenty of pass interference penalties. That should set Atlanta up on the one yard line for some one yard TD runs. If they use Davis as a three down RB- he'll outperform his draft day price tag (6th round).......but that's a big if. Also, keep in mind Davis has been a lifetime backup. I could see them signing a RB who gets cut from another team just to spite me.
Brendan Tuma
FantasyPros
Any statistical projection is going to love "Zeke" entering 2021. We anticipate him receiving the bulk of touches on an offense that should once again play at one of the fastest paces in football. That's a recipe for fantasy success. Of course, lingering in the back of our minds is how slow Elliott seemed to be moving down the stretch last season. Perhaps that was party due to the Dallas offense struggling under Andy Dalton, but it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Zeke finally hit the wall after all these years of heavy workloads. The cliff is coming one of these years, so I'd probably hedge with a younger/more stable option in Round 1 of my drafts this summer. Of course, there's also an argument to be made that fantasy analysts shouldn't overly rely on subjective takes like talent evaluation, which is why Elliott is still getting RB1 treatment from the community.
Joe Pisapia
FantasyPros
Mike Davis aka "The Quad-Father" impressed in his role as CMC's back up turned starter in 2020. Davis now has a chance with the Falcons to be the undisputed leader of the backfield with very little competition. Exactly how lucrative that role will be in fantasy terms is undetermined. Arthur Smith certainly liked to run the football in Tennessee, but NO ONE is Derrick Henry. Still, Davis as a third RB is a good value in 2021 based on the offense and his situation.
Tim Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Take advantage of this one year when Zeke will be available outside of the first few picks. He will bounce back with Dak back under center and be a top-5 fantasy option again.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Was RB3 in PPG with Dak, who now returns. Don't LOVE the player, but love the offense and his role within it.Currently ATL's top RB. Don't expect that to stay, but he'd be a high-end RB2 if so
