FantasyPros
Yes, Mahomes is coming off the best fantasy season of all time for a quarterback. Yes, he's going to have some regression. He threw a touchdown on 8.6 percent of his passes in 2018, the seventh-highest mark of all-time. Here's the list of quarterbacks who are ahead of them, included with their touchdown rate in that season, as well as the following season: Peyton Manning (9.9 to 6.2), Ken Stabler (9.3 to 6.8), Deshaun Watson (9.3 to 5.1), Aaron Rodgers (9.0 to 7.1), Tom Brady (8.7 to 5.0), Mark Rypien (8.7 to 4.6). Don't pay for last year's statsYou have to give Kittle a ton of credit for what he did in 2018. He played with a combination of Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard, and Nick Mullens yet managed to set the yardage record for a tight end. Getting Garoppolo back for the full season should help, but he may lose a few targets considering Dante Pettis is now in a starting role, while the 49ers drafted Deebo Samuel in the second-round and Jalen Hurd in the third-round. He's still a force to be reckoned with and one of the three tight ends worth a pick in the first three rounds
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
I won't actually be investing an early round pick on a QB, but Mahomes remains the guy if you plan on doing so.Kittle is the most explosive tight end in the league, but will Jimmy G help or hurt him? We don't know yet, so he's 3rd for me.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Fantasy owners don't need a reminder of just how dynamic Mahomes was last year, as he threw for over 5,000 yards with 50 touchdowns. There will be regression, simply because there has to be, but he has plenty of room to regress and still finish with elite numbers and as the top fantasy quarterback in the game. Waiting on quarterback is always the right play. But with Tyreek Hill back in the fold, there's no doubt that Mahomes should be the top one off the board. The absence of Jimmy Garoppolo had no impact on Kittle, who racked up an incredible 1,377 yards last season. His record-setting total was largely due to a ridiculous amount of yards after the catch, the most in the NFL. Some regression could be expected, but given the enormous upgrade in quarterback with Garoppolo healthy, perhaps it shouldn't be as much as you think. Kittle may still be behind Travis Kelce as the top tight end in fantasy, but the gap is narrow.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Depending on the format, he was typically 4-5 FAN PTS better per week than the No. 2 overall fantasy QB - sure, regression is bound to happen, but don't expect too much - special talent, great system, ample weaponsLed all TEs in rec. yards (1377) and his 10.2 yards gained average after the catch was more than a yard higher than any other receiver in the league, and 3 yards higher than his expected yards after the catch avg. (7.0)
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Overall QB1. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to be too cute.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
In terms of raw fantasy points, Mahomes broke the historical quarterback record, but when you compare him to the QB13, or above replacement value, he was merely 20th of all-time. While that is still great, of course, it was driven by an astronomical and unsustainable touchdown rate. Regress that to the expected mean and there is no reason you should be considering him in the 2nd, let alone 1st round. If he drops to the late 3rd, however, that would be a strong value. Not only did Kittle receive for more yards than any tight end in football history last year, but he did it with Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard as his quarterbacks. Enter Jimmy Garoppolo and we might see an even better season. Granted, the 49ers have some weapons in the passing game, but among them, Kittle is still the number one and you likely can't say that about Ertz in Philly with Alshon roaming around.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Mahomes did score 417 fantasy points last year, but quarterbacks rarely duplicate historic seasons. I think Mahomes will have a great year, but I do not think he reaches 417 fantasy points again.Kittle had 88 receptions for 1,377 yards and 5 touchdowns on an offense that started 3 quarterbacks last year. There is an argument to be made that he is the best receiving tight end in football, but I would still rank him below Kelce due to the QB situation in San Francisco.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
The #1 QB in True Throw Value last season, Mahomes (unsurprisingly) had the most valuable throw of any QB last season. Even with regression, he can still be a top-3 QB. However, he's being taken too early in drafts. It's tough to know if he can repeat a 88/1377/5 line, but it's important to note he only scored FIVE TDs. Even if his yardage and catches drop, he has the TD upside to make up for it.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
Without Tyreek Hill, it's hard to imagine 5,000 yards and 50 Touchdowns again from Patrick Mahomes. With that being said, he's still projected to be my Top QB this season and he should be the first QB off the board in fantasy drafts. We saw a complete emergence from George Kittle in 2018 that has lead to unimaginable hype for the young TE. With that being said, there's reason to be cautious with Kittle moving forward. We've seen a very small sample size with Kittle and Garoppolo and the 49ers added a bunch of other weapons to that offense this offseason. Kittle will still be heavily involved, but we may not see 1,300 receiving yards from him again in 2019...Temper your expectations, but still feel confident drafting Kittle in the 4th-5th rounds of your redraft leagues.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
My exact ranking on Mahomes is going to depend on whether or not Hill is suspended. If he is, then I don't see how you can draft Mahomes. If he isn't, then his ADP is likely to rise to a point where you can's draft him. So either way, it's a no for me. I understand that he just posted over 5,000 yards and 50 TD's. But I also know that he just had one of the best years ever in terms of passing TD percentage...and that he's likely to see at least a little regression in that category. But the main reason for not drafting him is the opportunity cost. He's the top ranked QB this season...no one is going to deny that. But this season has the single deepest QB pool in the history of the NFL. There are around 25 QB's that you can make the case for starting in a 12 team league. Will all of them pan out? Of course not. But there are going to be QB's going in the 12th round and later that finish within a point per game of the top tier. It's just not worth spending such a high pick at a position where there are so many elite options going at the end of drafts. And this is especially true if Hill were to miss any number of games.George Kittle is going to be the centerpiece of the 49ers passing offense. So while we can't expect him to break the single season receiving record again, he should still have a great season. We still don't have a large enough sample to know exactly how well Kittle will perform with Garoppolo...but it's safe to assume he's not a downgrade from what they had last season. Kittle is now entering his third season as a pro, at a position that's notoriously difficult for young players. He's also missed just one game in his short two year career, although it's worth noting that he still has suffered a few injuries over the past few years. I view Kittle as a safe pick in the third round if you want to target a TE early. Unfortunately, he routinely gets taken in the second...an ADP which I'm less in love with.
