FantasyPros
You have to give Kittle a ton of credit for what he did in 2018. He played with a combination of Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard, and Nick Mullens yet managed to set the yardage record for a tight end. Getting Garoppolo back for the full season should help, but he may lose a few targets considering Dante Pettis is now in a starting role, while the 49ers drafted Deebo Samuel in the second-round and Jalen Hurd in the third-round. He's still a force to be reckoned with and one of the three tight ends worth a pick in the first three roundsWith new additions of DeSean Jackson, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Miles Sanders, you have to wonder if Ertz loses of his (tight end) record of 156 targets he saw in 2018. You also have Dallas Goedert coming into his second season after an impressive rookie campaign. Still, it's rare to find a tight end who can average 8-10 targets per game, making Ertz worthy of a pick in the top three rounds
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Kittle is the most explosive tight end in the league, but will Jimmy G help or hurt him? We don't know yet, so he's 3rd for me.Ertz is my preferred PPR option at tight end, but has less scoring upside than Kelce. He's my 1B to K elce's 1B, though, so you can't really go wrong.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
The absence of Jimmy Garoppolo had no impact on Kittle, who racked up an incredible 1,377 yards last season. His record-setting total was largely due to a ridiculous amount of yards after the catch, the most in the NFL. Some regression could be expected, but given the enormous upgrade in quarterback with Garoppolo healthy, perhaps it shouldn't be as much as you think. Kittle may still be behind Travis Kelce as the top tight end in fantasy, but the gap is narrow.Ertz saw a preposterous 156 targets last year, which led to 116 catches for 1,163 yards and eight touchdowns. He almost certainly will see a meaningful drop in targets this year with the addition of DeSean Jackson and with a healthy Darren Sproles. But he can give away plenty of targets and still finish as an easy top-three tight end. Draft him with confidence early.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Led all TEs in rec. yards (1377) and his 10.2 yards gained average after the catch was more than a yard higher than any other receiver in the league, and 3 yards higher than his expected yards after the catch avg. (7.0)Career-high targets in '18 was 40+ more than his previous best - with Jeffery healthy, the backfield much improved, D-Jax now in the mix and backup TE Goedert pushing for more time, Ertz could revert back to previous target levels
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
It's tough to know if he can repeat a 88/1377/5 line, but it's important to note he only scored FIVE TDs. Even if his yardage and catches drop, he has the TD upside to make up for it.Ertz saw 156 targets last season but the Eagles added Arcega-Whiteside, DJax, Sanders, and Howard. Geodert also has another year in the system and is expected to have a larger role. - In the first 8 games last season Ertz had ONE game with less than 8 targets - In the final 8 games, Ertz had FIVE games with 8 or less targets - The three years before last he had 112, 106, and 110 targets, 75, 78, and 74 catches, and 853, 816, and 824 yards, respectively. It's unlikely he matches last season's numbers so his ADP is too high for my taste. He will definitely provide solid and reliable numbers though.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
We saw a complete emergence from George Kittle in 2018 that has lead to unimaginable hype for the young TE. With that being said, there's reason to be cautious with Kittle moving forward. We've seen a very small sample size with Kittle and Garoppolo and the 49ers added a bunch of other weapons to that offense this offseason. Kittle will still be heavily involved, but we may not see 1,300 receiving yards from him again in 2019...Temper your expectations, but still feel confident drafting Kittle in the 4th-5th rounds of your redraft leagues.Ertz put up unreal reception numbers last season and showed everyone that he's a fantasy force to be reckoned with. However, the Eagles added other weapons this offseason, which could take away some of Ertz's overall target numbers. With that being said, there's no reason to expect a drastic drop-off in production. Ertz is a safe pick at the TE position and should be the next player off the board after Travis Kelce.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Not only did Kittle receive for more yards than any tight end in football history last year, but he did it with Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard as his quarterbacks. Enter Jimmy Garoppolo and we might see an even better season. Granted, the 49ers have some weapons in the passing game, but among them, Kittle is still the number one and you likely can't say that about Ertz in Philly with Alshon roaming around.Ertz was spectacular again last season, even outscoring George Kittle in his record-breaking season. There is no doubt that Ertz will produce as long as he stays on the field, and especially with Carson Wentz back. With that said, it seems unlikely that Kittle will catch just 5 touchdowns this season with Jimmy G throwing passes so for now, Ertz sits at the end of that first tier of tight ends.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
George Kittle is going to be the centerpiece of the 49ers passing offense. So while we can't expect him to break the single season receiving record again, he should still have a great season. We still don't have a large enough sample to know exactly how well Kittle will perform with Garoppolo...but it's safe to assume he's not a downgrade from what they had last season. Kittle is now entering his third season as a pro, at a position that's notoriously difficult for young players. He's also missed just one game in his short two year career, although it's worth noting that he still has suffered a few injuries over the past few years. I view Kittle as a safe pick in the third round if you want to target a TE early. Unfortunately, he routinely gets taken in the second...an ADP which I'm less in love with.Julie Ertz's husband set the single season record for receptions by a TE last year. That's the sort of upside he brings to the table. This season, I expect him to regress a bit on those numbers. DeSean Jackson was brought in, and I expect him to command at least a small target share. Alshon also appeared in just 13 games, and Dallas was a rookie TE. Assuming Alshon remains healthy, and Goedert sees the sophomore TE bump, Zach is going to see less targets. He's still an elite option, but he's absolutely behind Kelce for the top TE, and I have him behind Kittle as well. My current projection has him with 96/950/6. That sort of stat line makes him a good pick in the mid third round. Unfortunately, he's been routinely going in the late second. That's a bit too early for me.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Kittle had 88 receptions for 1,377 yards and 5 touchdowns on an offense that started 3 quarterbacks last year. There is an argument to be made that he is the best receiving tight end in football, but I would still rank him below Kelce due to the QB situation in San Francisco.Ertz had another monster season at tight end with 1,163 yards and 8 receiving touchdowns. He can be counted on to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL in 2019.
