That's right, folks! It's Jonnu time yet again! After hyping up Smith all last off-season, it's time to hop back on the Hype Train and talk about Jonnu's potential for fantasy yet again. Once Smith signed with the New England Patriots for a massive deal in free agency, it seemed like the hopes of Smith finishing as a top-5 option at the TE position were all but locked in. Unfortunately, Hunter Henry's signing a day later put a damper on those dreams, but we still shouldn't be scared off of Smith and his potential in this offense. With a revamped - but honestly still lackluster - WR corps, there's a strong possibility that Smith leads this entire team in targets. The Patriots will be committed to getting him the ball in creative ways near the line of scrimmage and letting him create after the catch, which he does better than nearly every other TE in the league. Smith finishing as a top-5 option at the position now that the passing volume has increased with Mac Jones under center isn't out of the realm of possibilities. His ADP is laughably low right now, so take advantage and draft him every single chance you can get.Henry was brought in on a big contract during free agency, but that doesn't exactly mean that he's going to be force fed targets in this offense. Henry fills a critical role for this team as the second TE, but Smith is clearly who the Patriots envision being their number one target at the position. With that in mind, it's highly unlikely that we see Henry finish within the top-12 TEs when it's all said and done. He'll certainly be in the streaming conversation here or there, but we need to temper our expectations with the veteran TE.

Smith is a jack-of-all-trades for the tight end position who can block, run, and is a good receiver while lining up all over the field, including tailback. Since 2010, Smith ranks second at the position in yards after catch per reception (7.1), trailing just George Kittle (7.8). He has never topped 50 catches or 500 receiving yards in a single season, but 2021 sets up for the best situation of his young career. Smith dealt with ankle and quad injuries from midseason on last year, which slowed a fast start to his year.Henry should be a full-time player for the Patriots after ranking 18th in PFF's run-blocking grade last season. A legitimate run-blocking/pass-catching dual threat, Henry's situation (paired with Jonnu Smith on a potentially low volume offense) isn't ideal. Over the past 10 seasons, only the 2011 Patriots and 2019 Eagles have produced multiple top-12 tight ends for fantasy purposes. Henry shed the injury-prone label in 2020, but he has still appeared in just 55-of-80 games since joining the league.

Sleepers and Busts
The last time the Patriots had two really good TE's was when Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez were playing together at Gillette Stadium. They're hoping the additions of Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry add similar juice to a team in desperate need of some playmakers. Smith is not known as a blocker, but after Taylor Lewan torn his ACL last year, the Titans kept Smith in to help with pass protection. The Patriots line is solid. That should open up more opportunities for Smith to pad his stats. He's known for his speed and run after catch ability. Coach Belichick said he's probably the best in the league after the catch. Those are strong words. The Patriots are paying him $50 million over 4 years. Ya think they want to throw him the ball some? If Mac Jones can be decent, Smith should easily outperform his price on draft day and could crack the Top 10.INJURY UPDATE- Henry injured his shoulder in practice and is out for a few weeks. Stay tuned. Henry leaving the Chargers & up and coming QB Justin Herbert is a downgrade no matter how you slice it. Jonnu Smith will take some targets and going from Herbert to Cam or Mac Jones hurts. Henry is good, but it's hard to see the upside mainly due to his situation.

Smith surged in the opening weeks of 2020, and it looked like he was on his way to an historically productive campaign. Alas, his production waned as the season wore on, but Smith still posted his first top-10 season in large part due to nine total touchdowns scored. New England paid the man handsomely in the offseason, and the receiving options - though better than 2020 - are far from elite. Smith can certainly carve a significant role out in this offense and provide top-10 numbers once again.

Smith's talent was not put on display nearly enough with the Titans, as he never saw more than 65 targets in a single season. Despite that, he finished as a top-12 tight end in 2020. The Patriots were aggressive with him, signing him the first day of free agency to a four-year, $50 million deal, which tells us all we need to know: They aren't going to hide him. The signing of Hunter Henry hurt his projection a bit, but the drafting of Mac Jones improved it a bit because once he takes over as the starter, this team will throw a lot more. Once you get outside the top five tight ends, you're chasing upside, and Smith has plenty of it.Henry has never been an elite tight end in my eyes. He's always been someone who benefitted from a lot of volume in an offense with not a whole lot of options to throw to. Based on the opportunity he had last year and where it took place on the field, Henry scored 18.7 fewer fantasy points than he was expected to, which ranked as the fourth-worst number in football. He's now the No. 2 tight end on a Patriots team that figures to have Cam Newton under center for at least the first few games. Henry is nothing more than a streamer in 2021, and to be honest, I don't anticipate there being many weeks to use him without an injury ahead of him on the depth chart.

Could Hunter Henry's injury open up the door for Jonnu to pull away as the clear TE1?Love the real-life fit w/ Pats alongside Jonnu in their recreation of Gronk & Hernandez - lite... but the fantasy results could be sketchy, at least if Cam remains the QB

Trying to figure out exactly what the Patriots are going to do with both Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry is nearly impossible, but let's try. Smith is coming off a strong year with the Titans scoring eight TDs which was 4th most amongst all TEs. I expect somewhat of an even split between Smith and Henry, but if given the option, I'd lean towards Henry. The Patriots TE situation is setting up to be one of the most confusing TE battles we've seen in recent memory. Hunter Henry is coming off a solid season with the Chargers where he caught 60 passes for 613 yards and four TDs. It's anyone's guess who will be the lead guy between Henry and Jonnu Smith, but as of now, my money is on Henry.

Smith will be a nice addition to the New England offense, but he is going to have a hard time being a TE1 competing with Hunter Henry for tight end targets and playing with either Cam Newton or Mac Jones. Smith is more of a TE2 in fantasy.

Hunter Henry is the second TE in the Pats offense, make no mistake about that fact. In TE premium leagues or 2 TE leagues, Henry has slight appeal based upon the two TE sets NE will run in often in 2021. Henry is a good route runner, but he's battled injuries for years and has never lived up to his ceiling. It's highly unlikely he reached it now at this stage of his career.
