Hail to Fantasy Football
I'm finding it tough to rank Taylor. Tons of potential, great O-line...but what about Marlon Mack?!?
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
If Conner were able to stay on the field, he'd be considered as a top-10 running back in fantasy. Unfortunately, he hasn't done that, and it's led them to draft Jaylen Samuels, Benny Snell, and now Anthony McFarland. While none of them are better than Conner, it's likely we see them take some of the workload away from him in 2020.It's looking like a very good possibility for Taylor to see 250-plus carries in his rookie season. Some may think that's absurd, but Marlon Mack totaled 247 carries in just 14 games last year. Even if we give Mack the 100 carries that Jordan Wilkins and Jonathan Williams combined for last year, it'd leave room for Taylor to hit the 250 mark. He's also running behind the best offensive line in football, so it wouldn't be a shock to see him rush for 1,200 yards in year one with his vision and speed in the open field. Taylor is right in the same territory as someone like Nick Chubb.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
7th among RBs in FAN PPG over past 2 seasons (better than Cook, Henry, Mixon, to name a few), but in a prove-it season health wise - figure he's playing for his future in PIT1 of 7 RBs of 220+ pounds to run a sub-4.4 40 at the NFL Combine in past 20 years - may take awhile to overtake Mack in touches but I'll bet he gets there
Elliot Berkovits
Pack to the Future
Many people consider 2019 to be a bad season for Conner but before getting hurt, he was averaging over 14 points per game. Now, Ben Roethlisberger is slated to return and the Steelers offense of old could be coming back together. Getting a piece of that in the 3rd-4th round is terrific value. While I do see Taylor finishing the season as the RB1 in Indy, it's unlikely he gets too much work right out of the gate with there being no preseason. If you feel comfortable waiting a few weeks for him to acclimate, you could have yourself a solid RB2
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
If Conner stays healthy this year, he's almost certainly going to be a draft-day bargain. Through Week 7, before his season was derailed by injury, he was on pace for more than 1400 total yards and 14 touchdowns. Mike Tomlin has come out and essentially stated that Conner is going to be a workhorse back, and he may get even more work in the receiving game if Ben Roethlisberger doesn't push it downfield as much as he used to after elbow surgery. In other words, it's just health with Conner. If he has it, he should be no worse than an extremely strong RB2 in half- or full-PPR leagues.Taylor is a tough back to evaluate heading into the fantasy season. He has tremendous skill and will be playing behind perhaps the best offensive line in football. But Marlon Mack will still factor in, especially given the lack of preseason games, which should negatively impact all rookies. And don't forget Nyheim Hines, who may steal much of the passing-down work from Taylor, especially given the latter's struggles with drops in college. There's tremendous upside, but plenty of downside that shouldn't be ignored entirely.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
People are quick to write Conner off, but injuries are the only difference from this season to last where he was being drafted as a first-round pick. In fact, Big-Ben is back, so Conner should have more running lanes than he did last season when he excelled. From weeks 1-8 last season, Conner saw almost 18 touches per game, was sixth among RBs in fantasy points per snap, and forced the second-most missed tackles on receptions. He's also played at least 10 games every year of his career and is an RB1 whenever he's on the field. He's easily worth the third round pick.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Conner went from 1,470 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns in 2018 to 715 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns in 2019. The big issue for me is durability, Conner has RB1 talent, but missed 3 games in 2018 and 6 games last year. He has a lot of upside due to his ability, but a lot of downside due to his durability.Taylor ended up in a fantastic situation for a rookie playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the league on a team that loves to run the football. Taylor should start as a low-end RB2 to begin the season and emerge as a high-end RB2 to low-end RB1 to close the season.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Conner's a dicey pick, but that seems to be built into his ADP right now. If everything goes his way this season, Conner will drastically outperform where he's being drafted right now. However, we just simply don't know at this point whether or not he's going to remain healthy for all 16 games. In fact, I might bet against that happening.Taylor seeing 250 carries in 2020 isn't out of the realm of possibilities. If that happens, behind this offensive line, Taylor could easily finish as a top-15 RB this season.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
He finished his 3yr college career with over 6000 yards from scrimmage and had more 200 yard games than sub-100yd games. Taylor behind the Colts O-line is just going to be nuts.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
What an awful season 2019 proved to be for those who draft James Conner in the first round of drafts. Big Ben was injured, the offence fell apart, Conner's body fell apart and other backs like Benny Snell, Jaylen Samuels and even Kerrith Whyte (who oddly didn't look too bad) swarmed in. With Ben back, Conner ripped like a flying squirrel and another RB in 4th rounder Anthony McFarland in the mix, 2020 has turned into a real crap shoot. With a 4th round price tag though, Conner might just be worth the risk as an upside gamble returning to a good offence where he should be the lead back.Jonathan Taylor has found himself in an excellent long-term situation but it's far more of a mess in 2020. While this offence had 560 RB touches in 2019, they were very spread and that's likely for this coming season as well. It's highly likely that Marlon Mack will be the initial starter with Taylor funnelling touches as the season progresses. That's not what you want from a player many are drafting inside the first four rounds. While there is a lot of end-of-season upside, the path there isn't at all clear, especially with a better passing offence likely leading to lower rushing volume and Nyheim Hines grabbing a pile of receptions. Taylor profiles as an eventual RB2 with excellent long-term upside.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Barring a terrible landing spot, another rookie I love. Maybe a bit of a shock for now but all these rookies typically move up by draft day, I'm just saving you the sadness of watching your "value" pick creep up boards into August.
