Dan Harris
FantasyPros
If Conner stays healthy this year, he's almost certainly going to be a draft-day bargain. Through Week 7, before his season was derailed by injury, he was on pace for more than 1400 total yards and 14 touchdowns. Mike Tomlin has come out and essentially stated that Conner is going to be a workhorse back, and he may get even more work in the receiving game if Ben Roethlisberger doesn't push it downfield as much as he used to after elbow surgery. In other words, it's just health with Conner. If he has it, he should be no worse than an extremely strong RB2 in half- or full-PPR leagues.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Conner was tremendous in 2018 but had an injury-riddled 2019 season and the entire offense was sluggish with Big Ben hurt. Now that both are back, Conner possesses RB1 upside but there is also risk of him not playing due to underlying health conditions.Even though Bell missed time with injury and had an unsustainably low touchdown-rate, he still finished as an easy RB2 in fantasy football because the volume was so good. The same should be true again this year for the true three-down bell-cow, and while he won't be especially efficient, there is something to be said for his week to week reliability regardless of the game script.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
People are quick to write Conner off, but injuries are the only difference from this season to last where he was being drafted as a first-round pick. In fact, Big-Ben is back, so Conner should have more running lanes than he did last season when he excelled. From weeks 1-8 last season, Conner saw almost 18 touches per game, was sixth among RBs in fantasy points per snap, and forced the second-most missed tackles on receptions. He's also played at least 10 games every year of his career and is an RB1 whenever he's on the field. He's easily worth the third round pick.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Conner went from 1,470 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns in 2018 to 715 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns in 2019. The big issue for me is durability, Conner has RB1 talent, but missed 3 games in 2018 and 6 games last year. He has a lot of upside due to his ability, but a lot of downside due to his durability.Bell should benefit from the Jets adding T Mekhi Becton and WR Denzel Mims in the NFL Draft. They also added RB La'Mical Perine in the 4th round and RB Frank Gore in free agency, but neither should not be a huge threat to Bell's touches this season.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Kind of betting on him to not have a more productive year, because RBs typically don't as they age. This is standard RB decline, despite whatever excuses he has. Gase also seems to be pretty good at ruining fantasy value. HOPEFULLY his line play is better but we don't know that until we see it. Yes, they replaced everyone, but I feel like we get in off-season mode where we just assume everything and everyone will be better without any evidence of it. Volume should keep him afloat.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Conner's a dicey pick, but that seems to be built into his ADP right now. If everything goes his way this season, Conner will drastically outperform where he's being drafted right now. However, we just simply don't know at this point whether or not he's going to remain healthy for all 16 games. In fact, I might bet against that happening.Adam Gase seems intent on taking the ball out of Bell's hands and splitting the work among his other running backs. Frank Gore and Lamical Perine are both going to eat into Bell's touches and it's going to limit his production. Bell is nothing more than a low-end RB2 in this Jets offense, despite being one of the more talented running backs in the NFL.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Behind 8-ball to prove he can hold up as a bell cow for a full season - if injuries hit again, he could be elsewhere in 2021 - like the motivation, and Big Ben's returnBell's talent is slipping with age/mileage, and his environment took a hit going from PIT to NYJ - now HC Gase is looking to diminish his last bankable asset - workload
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Last year there were only 3 RBs to have 240+ rushing attempts and 75+ targets. I think we would be expecting some "positive" regression for Bell, especially in the TD department, but it seems that Gase is a subscriber to the "RB's don't matter" philosophy. I expect Gore, Perine or one of the journeymen the Jets have horded to cut into Bell's upside.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
What an awful season 2019 proved to be for those who draft James Conner in the first round of drafts. Big Ben was injured, the offence fell apart, Conner's body fell apart and other backs like Benny Snell, Jaylen Samuels and even Kerrith Whyte (who oddly didn't look too bad) swarmed in. With Ben back, Conner ripped like a flying squirrel and another RB in 4th rounder Anthony McFarland in the mix, 2020 has turned into a real crap shoot. With a 4th round price tag though, Conner might just be worth the risk as an upside gamble returning to a good offence where he should be the lead back.Le'Veon Bell once again proved that situation often trumps talent for running backs, as a mediocre O-line and Adam Gase led to a Derrick Henry level of volume (10 fewer touches) for 100 fewer fantasy points. Bell has massive room for improvement though, as he has no true competition (sorry La'Mical) and huge regression upside. Bell's never been a high TD guy or overly efficient but 4 yards per carry and 8 total TDs isn't an unreasonal expectation and that would mean a top 10 finish. Bump those up a little and he becomes a league winner. He's a great third round gamble you can pair with any of the riskier RBs like Fournette, Drake, Carson, CEH and Sanders.
Bart Wheeler
Hail to Fantasy Football
As long as he's healthy, he has RB1 potential. Up.
