Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There's no denying it... when Mostert is healthy and on the field, he's a beast. He's turned 282 career carries into 1,590 yards and 11 touchdowns. But that's the issue, he's never healthy. There's a reason he's 29 years old and has just 282 carries on his frame. Have the 49ers lost patience? They traded up to draft Trey Sermon in the third round, which could indicate they're ready to move on from Mostert, or it could be them ensuring they have a high-quality backup for if/when he gets injured. Mostert tallied at least 14 carries in 5-of-8 starts last year, which is more than enough to get into RB2 territory with his efficiency, but you can't draft him as such when injuries/Sermon are factored in. He's not someone you can confidently draft as a starter for your fantasy team because there's so much unknown. However, if he gets the job back, this is a pick that can make a difference in fantasy leagues. The 49ers have one of the easiest schedules in the league, so if they let Mostert get rolling, he's unlikely to slow down. While Robinson was on the field last year, the Jaguars running backs combined for 332 touches. Robinson accounted for 289 of them, or 87.0 percent, a number that doesn't really exist in today's NFL. He averaged 4.46 yards per carry, 5.73 yards per target, and scored 10 total touchdowns, which is solid, though nothing special. Enter Urban Meyer, who said they wanted to add depth/competition at the running back position. After adding Carlos Hyde, you knew Robinson would lose some touches, but it wasn't that much of a concern. After drafting Travis Etienne in the first round, it's definitely a concern. Robinson would be lucky to earn a 50/40/10 split with Etienne and Hyde, with Robinson being the 40 of the group. If we knock Robinson's touches into the 10-12 per game territory, you're not going to be trusting him as anything more than a shaky flex option.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Mostert is expected to be the lead back in this offense as long as he's healthy, but that's not exactly a guarantee. Mostert's only played a total of 31 games over the past three seasons and the 49ers know that they can't rely on him to start all 16 games. With the drafting of Sermon, the 49ers are signaling that Mostert's best fantasy days are behind him. To start the season, Mostert could produce some solid numbers for your lineup, but it seems inevitable that he's going to give up the starting job to the rookie RB eventually. If you do end up drafting Mostert, it's probably best to double back and snag Sermon to handcuff this backfield.Fantasy managers are in a bit of quandary when it comes to what to do with James Robinson. He smashed every expectation set for him last season and was a huge reason why many fantasy players were in their championships. However, the Jaguars turned over the entire front office and coaching staff that brought Robinson in. Additionally, the new coaching staff selected an explosive rookie in the first round, which doesn't look good for the second-year RB. With that being said, Robinson is not going to be completely relegated to the bench now. Etienne's role for this offense is going to be flexible, which means that we could see a lot of 2RB sets from this offense this season. It's just that Etienne is simply going to be receiving the clear majority of the touches in this case. Robinson still has value as a depth piece RB for your roster, but he most likely can't be relied on as anything more than a FLEX play week in and week out. My Very Early Projection: 102-469-4 rushing & 51-379-2 receiving.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
Mostert is one of the most explosive runners in the NFL and a slept on 4.34 speedster. His new competition is a 3rd round rookie with 4.58 speed. He feels like one of the most fragile players in the NFL in my opinion, I've been avoiding him in drafts, he's the kind of back that I revesrve for DFS rosters.
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
James Robinson came out of nowhere and took over the Jaguars starting RB gig. He's got some new teammates who could affect his numbers in 2021. RB Travis Etienne was drafted in the 1st round. He's more of a change of pace back, but Etienne has some serious juice. Also new is Etienne's Clemson teammate, QB Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is one of the most heralded QB prospects to come out since Andrew Luck. Finally, Tim Tebow joins the club as a TE. The reason I bring up Lawrence and Tebow is both could vulture TDs from Robinson down near the goal line. Tebow in particular could run a wildcat offense. That would kill Robinson's value if he loses those TDs. The pros are the Jaguars offense should finally have some sizzle in it. But that same sizzle could hurt Robinson's TD totals if things don't go his way. It all depends on his price tag on draft day. If you can get Robinson cheap, by all means take a shot. Just don't overpay. There are some storm clouds on the horizon in Florida.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Trey Sermon's addition has his starting role in serious jeopardy, but Mostert has always balled when offered the opportunityHyde isn't the worst addition, but the risk of a true GL vulture now lingers, and Hyde has history w/ Urban.
Joe Pisapia
FantasyPros
Raheem Mostert will probably never reach his 2019 season peak. He was more of a back that was in the right system at the right time and there's plenty of competition in house with Wayne Gallman, Trey Sermon and eventually Jeffrey Wilson Jr. As a fantasy investment, Mostert has more questions than answers and that makes him limited in his fantasy upside. There are better picks at similar ADP at the position.
