FantasyPros
Recency bias is real with Cook, who has been a disappointment throughout his fantasy career. Sure, he's going to play with Drew Brees in New Orleans, but don't forget that he played with Aaron Rodgers just a few short years ago. Did you know that 2018 was the first time he scored more than five touchdowns in a season? Or how about that it was his first time topping 54 receptions or 759 yards? Over the last three years there hasn't been a running back/tight end duo who's topped 195 targets on the same team (the highest duo on the Saints has been just 151). Over the last two years, Kamara has totaled at least 100 targets, which tells you that Cook's ceiling is extremely limitedIt's hard looking on the bright side if you're a Njoku supporter, as he had the opportunity of a lifetime last year when Josh Gordon was traded. It allowed him to see many more targets in the offense with Baker Mayfield, though it didn't turn into what many had hoped. He ranked seventh in targets (89), but ninth in fantasy scoring. The addition of Odell Beckham surely isn't going to help him add to that target total, so he'll need to get more efficient in order to take the next step
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Cook was great with the Raiders last year. Just imagine what he can do with Drew Brees. The talent is there for Njoku to be a total freak. We just need to see it happen.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Cook was perhaps the lone bright spot for the Raiders last year, and he parlayed his success into a multi-year deal with the Saints. The coaching staff hasn't been shy about talking up Cook, and outside of Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, reliable pass-catchers for New Orleans are few and far between. Cook is getting a little long in the tooth, but after last year, and with a spot on an elite offense, he certainly should be considered a top-10 tight end on draft day.Njoku has a lot of raw talent, and he had a very solid rookie campaign, finishing as a top-10 tight end in all formats. But when Freddie Kitchens was calling the plays, Njoku's production dropped precipitously. And with Odell Beckham Jr. on board, there will be fewer targets available. Still, Njoku's raw talent and outstanding quarterback make him a TE1 this year.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Brees hasn't had a legit TE threat in a while, so it will be interesting to see the role Cook plays in this offense. I don't see him reaching the 896 yards he reached last year as Oakland's de facto WR1, but I can see him at least matching the 6 TDs. I do expect some overall regression despite the QB upgrade since he is no longer the #1 target, he is 32 years old and last season was his career best.Njoku was not quite the fantasy stud that some expected last season, but he was decent, 639/4 ending as TE4. I know a lot of people are off of him because of the addition of OBJ, but I would not be super surprised if he puts up numbers comparable to Jarvis Landry this season and becomes a main target for Baker Mayfield. I like him at his ADP.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Njoku finished behind Burton and Hooper last season and now is being taken before both of them. His 9th TE ADP isn't outrageous, but it's just not really a value. He's in a great offense, but where is there room for OBJ, Landry, Chubb, Higgins/Callaway, and Njoku? Plus it's not like last season was a bad statistical baseline, he saw 89 targets!
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
It's extremely difficult to judge how good Cook is going to be this season. At age 32 he's fresh off his best season as a pro after putting together a 68/896/6 stat line in Oakland. Over the past three seasons, Saints TE's as a whole have combined for 87 targets on average. We know that Taysom Hill, Josh Hill, and Dan Arnold are all going to get targets...so a realistic projection for Cook is around 50. My current projection on Cook is 46/639/3.4. That projection honestly seems a little high, and yet it still comes in as the 13th highest among TE's. Cook is being over valued this season compared to the amount of targets he's set to receive. He's not a bad pick, and he's not someone I would flat out avoid...because the TD upside is massive. There are just other guys you should be targeting instead.Njoku has put together two solid seasons to start his career, but he's poised for a breakout in 2019. Remember why we were excited about Njoku when he entered the league. He boasts a 79th percentile height adjusted speed score, a 96th percentile agility score, a 93rd percentile catch radius and an 82nd percentile SPARQ-x score. The addition of Odell is going to open up holes in the defense, and another offseason with Baker should help their timing and chemistry. Baker and Chubb are already elite at their respective positions, so this offense is going to dominate both on the ground and through the air. They should be amongs the league leaders in points scored, after finishing in the bottom 10 in 10 of the last 11 years (finally got up to 19th last season). There are a good amount of weapons on this offense, so it's a similar situation to Hunter Henry in that there's a chance his production is a little up and down. My current projection on him is 51/667/5...which might sound low, but it still ends up being the 9th highest projection among TE's. With that being an extremely reasonable projection, and still finishing relatively high, I have no problem targeting him where he's going in drafts.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
We know Drew Brees' offense is fantasy gold for tight ends, but we saw Cook with Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers in 2016 and he did nothing, so perhaps even Brees won't lock him into the fantasy top 12. Additionally, Cook was TE15 in 2017 before his big 2018 season which was fueled by the fact that Jordy Nelson was their #1 receiver. In New Orleans, he will be the #3 or #4 option at best so perhaps we should be careful with our expectations.Njoku was solid but unspectacular last season, finishing after Trey Burton and Austin Hooper as the TE9. Yes, he will have a full season of Baker Mayfield, but he will also have Odell Beckham now hogging the targets. With both of those major changes, Njoku should still end back up in the top 10 this season.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Cook had 896 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns on a team with no legit wide receivers after they traded WR Amari Cooper midseason. He landed in a great spot in New Orleans, but he will not see as many targets in a loaded offense. He is still a TE1 candidate playing with a future Hall of Fame quarterback.Njoku will benefit from having QB Baker Mayfield starting all 16 games and having WR Odell Beckham Jr. take a safety out of short part of the field. Njoku has the potential to make a huge jump in production in his third year.
