Fantasy Football Advice
It's extremely difficult to judge how good Cook is going to be this season. At age 32 he's fresh off his best season as a pro after putting together a 68/896/6 stat line in Oakland. Over the past three seasons, Saints TE's as a whole have combined for 87 targets on average. We know that Taysom Hill, Josh Hill, and Dan Arnold are all going to get targets...so a realistic projection for Cook is around 50. My current projection on Cook is 46/639/3.4. That projection honestly seems a little high, and yet it still comes in as the 13th highest among TE's. Cook is being over valued this season compared to the amount of targets he's set to receive. He's not a bad pick, and he's not someone I would flat out avoid...because the TD upside is massive. There are just other guys you should be targeting instead.I genuinely don't know what to do with Ebron. He's going to have some really nice weeks, and he's going to have some really not so nice weeks. The way I see it is this, Ebron's final stat line is probably going to be decent, but he's going to be frustrating to own. The Colts have Hilton/Campbell/Funchess/Mack/Hines/Doyle also in line for targets, so expecting Ebron to be consistent is a little ridiculous. He'll be a great DFS play becasue we know the weekly TD upside is massive, but for season long, he's going to be so difficult to trust. I'm not avoiding him, but I'll probably let other people deal with the headache.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
We know Drew Brees' offense is fantasy gold for tight ends, but we saw Cook with Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers in 2016 and he did nothing, so perhaps even Brees won't lock him into the fantasy top 12. Additionally, Cook was TE15 in 2017 before his big 2018 season which was fueled by the fact that Jordy Nelson was their #1 receiver. In New Orleans, he will be the #3 or #4 option at best so perhaps we should be careful with our expectations.Ebron had an excellent fantasy season in 2018 but it was almost exclusively touchdown driven. You can say that is good, but why would we think it was the norm after the exact opposite was the knock on him all along. The scariest thing about Ebron is that when Doyle came back from injury, Ebron played just 22%, 38% and 40% of the team snaps even despite his prior performance. Ebron isn't even a lock to be the starter so be careful on draft day.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Recency bias is real with Cook, who has been a disappointment throughout his fantasy career. Sure, he's going to play with Drew Brees in New Orleans, but don't forget that he played with Aaron Rodgers just a few short years ago. Did you know that 2018 was the first time he scored more than five touchdowns in a season? Or how about that it was his first time topping 54 receptions or 759 yards? Over the last three years there hasn't been a running back/tight end duo who's topped 195 targets on the same team (the highest duo on the Saints has been just 151). Over the last two years, Kamara has totaled at least 100 targets, which tells you that Cook's ceiling is extremely limited. You don't need us to tell you that Ebron's going to come back down to earth in 2019, right? Let's say you're optimistic and aren't worried about the additions of Devin Funchess and Parris Campbell, or the return of Jack Doyle. He scored 14 touchdowns in 2018, which ranks as the third-most all-time by a tight end. His targets (110), however, ranked 13th all-time, and his yardage (750) ranked 132nd all-time. Regression is coming.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Cook had 896 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns on a team with no legit wide receivers after they traded WR Amari Cooper midseason. He landed in a great spot in New Orleans, but he will not see as many targets in a loaded offense. He is still a TE1 candidate playing with a future Hall of Fame quarterback.Ebron had 750 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns in 2019. There are concerns that Jack Doyle being healthy in 2019 could hurt his value, but his touchdowns should keep him in the TE1 discussion.
