FantasyPros
Prior to tearing his ACL, Henry's career arc was moving in the right direction. His per-target production is through the roof as he's seen 115 targets in his career that have amounted to 81 receptions for 1,057 yards and 12 touchdowns. By comparison, Zach Ertz saw 156 targets in 2018 and finished with 1,163 yards and 8 touchdownsRecency bias is real with Cook, who has been a disappointment throughout his fantasy career. Sure, he's going to play with Drew Brees in New Orleans, but don't forget that he played with Aaron Rodgers just a few short years ago. Did you know that 2018 was the first time he scored more than five touchdowns in a season? Or how about that it was his first time topping 54 receptions or 759 yards? Over the last three years there hasn't been a running back/tight end duo who's topped 195 targets on the same team (the highest duo on the Saints has been just 151). Over the last two years, Kamara has totaled at least 100 targets, which tells you that Cook's ceiling is extremely limited
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Philip Rivers knows how to utilize tight ends and Henry will be making up for lost time. He's a top-5 threat.Cook was great with the Raiders last year. Just imagine what he can do with Drew Brees.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Henry was a popular breakout candidate last year until he tore his ACL and missed the entire regular season. He's been an excellent fantasy option throughout his career, and that's been almost entirely with Antonio Gates on the field. With Gates now out of the way, Henry should see a bevy of targets from Philip Rivers, who has targeted his tight ends early and often. That immediately vaults him into the top 10 of tight ends, and you shouldn't hesitate to take him in the top five if necessary.Cook was perhaps the lone bright spot for the Raiders last year, and he parlayed his success into a multi-year deal with the Saints. The coaching staff hasn't been shy about talking up Cook, and outside of Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, reliable pass-catchers for New Orleans are few and far between. Cook is getting a little long in the tooth, but after last year, and with a spot on an elite offense, he certainly should be considered a top-10 tight end on draft day.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Really liked Hunter Henry at his ADP last season, but then he missed the entire season with a torn ACL and now he is being drafted at the same spot. It does scare me a bit. He was really coming into his own at the end of 2017 with over 50 receiving yards in 3 of his final 4 games and 2 TDs in that span with 16 receptions in those games. There are a lot of mouths to feed in San Diego though and the running backs basically combined to be a WR1 receiving last season.Brees hasn't had a legit TE threat in a while, so it will be interesting to see the role Cook plays in this offense. I don't see him reaching the 896 yards he reached last year as Oakland's de facto WR1, but I can see him at least matching the 6 TDs. I do expect some overall regression despite the QB upgrade since he is no longer the #1 target, he is 32 years old and last season was his career best.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Hunter Henry will return from a torn ACL he suffered last summer. Unlike players who suffered that injury during the season, Henry will be 100% to start the year. Henry put together two decent seasons before the injury, serving as both a receiving option and a red zone threat, even while Gates was still with the team. With Gates now long gone, Henry should be the teams top red zone option. This is also an offense that loves to throw the football. In 2017 they ranked 6th and 3rd in passing TD's and yards respectively. Last season those numbers were 8th and 11th. The Chargers have seemingly drawn the short straw on injuries in each of the past three seasons. In 2016 Keenan Allen tore his ACL, in 2017 Mike Williams injured his back and was limited to just one start, then Henry tore his ACL last season. At least for now, The Chargers offense is fully healthy. The core of Gordon/Allen/Henry/Williams is one of the best in the league, so they should be amongst the league leaders in TD's scored. While that's a positive for Henry (top red zone option on a top scoring offense), the plethora of options does mean that there will be some down weeks for all of these players. There are so many mouths to feed that sometimes they are going to under perform. At the end of the day, Henry is a top TE option, and someone I'd target in the middle rounds. It's extremely difficult to judge how good Cook is going to be this season. At age 32 he's fresh off his best season as a pro after putting together a 68/896/6 stat line in Oakland. Over the past three seasons, Saints TE's as a whole have combined for 87 targets on average. We know that Taysom Hill, Josh Hill, and Dan Arnold are all going to get targets...so a realistic projection for Cook is around 50. My current projection on Cook is 46/639/3.4. That projection honestly seems a little high, and yet it still comes in as the 13th highest among TE's. Cook is being over valued this season compared to the amount of targets he's set to receive. He's not a bad pick, and he's not someone I would flat out avoid...because the TD upside is massive. There are just other guys you should be targeting instead.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
It is tough to know just how strong Henry will be in his return from the injury but seeing that he was prepared to play in the playoffs, it seems likely that he will be nearly back to 100%. Prior to his injury, Henry was every bit as efficient as Rob Gronkowski and Travis Kelce at the top of the league. Now that he is actually the starter and should see a major bump in targets, he may just leap into that top tight end tier.We know Drew Brees' offense is fantasy gold for tight ends, but we saw Cook with Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers in 2016 and he did nothing, so perhaps even Brees won't lock him into the fantasy top 12. Additionally, Cook was TE15 in 2017 before his big 2018 season which was fueled by the fact that Jordy Nelson was their #1 receiver. In New Orleans, he will be the #3 or #4 option at best so perhaps we should be careful with our expectations.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
The nice thing about Henry playing in the playoffs is that we know he is healthy and he will be available for all OTA activities. Henry should bounce back as a TE1 coming off the ACL injury in May last year.Cook had 896 yards receiving and 6 touchdowns on a team with no legit wide receivers after they traded WR Amari Cooper midseason. He landed in a great spot in New Orleans, but he will not see as many targets in a loaded offense. He is still a TE1 candidate playing with a future Hall of Fame quarterback.
