Hail to Fantasy Football
I keep moving him up. The addition of LeSean McCoy feels ominous for the rookie (but not as much for RoJo, who I think could still breakout in this offense).
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
We heard the Bucs say all offseason that Jones was their guy. We didn't even hear about them meeting with any of the free agent running backs. Then we heard the name Keshawn Vaughn in the third round, creating a problem for Jones. When teams select a running back on Day 2, it's typically to play them right out of the gate, even if it's not a clear-cut loss of the job for Jones. No matter which way you slice it, he has some new and improved competition. If you're looking for a handcuff to Mark Ingram, Dobbins is your guy. The Ravens apparently had a first-round grade on him in the draft, so selecting him in the second round was a "no brainer," according to them. He's likely to get 8-10 touches per game even with Ingram in the lineup, as the Ravens are not going to give any one running back more than 15-16 touches per game. That limits the upside of Dobbins, as does Lamar Jackson stealing plenty of goal-line touches.
Elliot Berkovits
Pack to the Future
Jones began to show flashes of potential as the season progress last year and now in a revamped Bucs offense, he has legitimate upside. While there is upside, there are also plenty of risks involved in this pick. The Bucs just spent a 3rd-round pick on Ke'Shawn Vaughn as well as signing veteran LeSean McCoy. I think it's going to come down to Jones versus Vaughn and whoever wins should have legitimate fantasy value.Dobbins finds himself in one of the most lethal backfields in the NFL. The only problem is, it's also one of the most crowded backfields in the NFL. Between Lamar Jackson running the football and Mark Ingram getting his fair share of touches, it's hard to envision Dobbins having a major role as a rookie. That being said, if anything were to Ingram, Dobbins would be an automatic start every single week.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Jones is a tough back to project heading into the 2020 season. He ended the year last year on a high note with a couple of huge games and with the departure of Peyton Barber, looked to have a clear path to dominant touches. But the Bucs drafted Ke'Shawn Vaughn and have now added LeSean McCoy. Still, with no preseason games and a limited training camp, Jones should get the lion's share of the touches given that he's been in the system already. With the muscle he's added this offseason and with Tom Brady under center, he has a ton of potential, but he'll need to avoid mistakes early in the season to hold his role.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Ronald Jones had a disappointing sophomore season, splitting carries with reliable plodder Peyton Barber and struggling with pass-protection. Nevertheless, there were positive signs for the 22-year-old as he started to establish himself with a couple of 100+ yard performances to end the season. Sadly, the Buccs have muddied the waters by drafting Ke'Shawn Vaughn and bringing in LeSean McCoy. That makes RoJo very hard to trust this season. The upside is that Bruce Arians rarely trusts his rookies out of the gate and it's possible Jones gets your season off to a blistering start. He can be paired with Vaughn though I don't love that tactic as a committee is a real risk. I prefer Jones as a zero-RB early-season gamble who may just pay off in a big way.JK Dobbins is clearly an excellent long-term prospect but what does he look like for 2020? It's starting to look like he'll be very much the backup in the Baltimore super-committee with Mark Ingram leading the way and Gus the Bus and Justice Hill (a great boy band name) getting a heap of involvement too. Dobbins clearly has plenty of upside if he can wrestle away the lead role but with Covid impacting preparations, that looks increasingly unlikely for now. He'll continue dropping down my rankings well into the RB3s until there's a good reason to move him up.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
One of the Tampa Bay RBs is going to produce this season. Right now, it's just a guessing game as to which one it will be. Will it be Jones, who knows this system? Or will it be the third-round rookie RB, Ke'Shawn Vaughn? Jones struggled last season in pass protection and as a receiver, which are two incredibly important traits to Bruce Arians and Tom Brady. If Vaughn can excel in those areas, he's going to get onto the field ahead of Jones. I'm currently projecting Jones to begin the season as the starter, but I believe we'll see Vaughn take over sooner than later.Dobbins may see enough work this season to have standalone value, but he has unspeakable upside if something happens to Mark Ingram. If that happens, we could see Dobbins finish within the top-5 RBs for fantasy football.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Jones tallied a strong 10.0 yards per catch on his 31 receptions. Pro Football Focus graded him just 73rd among all RBs in receiving. He fared better by Football Outsiders metrics, though, ranking 17th in DVOA and 20th in DYAR among 50 qualifying backs. PFF liked his rushing better, grading Jones 43rd at the position. FO had him 24th among 45 qualifiers in rushing DVOA, though at a rate below average-level performance. Fantasy wise, Jones ranked 35th in PPR points per game. @SchaufDS
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Baltimore RBs had 393 rushing attempts last year. Ingram had 202. The clear loser is Gus Edwards and his 133 attempts, as well as 3rd, now 4th? String Justice Hill. Dobbins is in line for a 150 touch year. Not awesome, but will stay provide low end RB2/RB3 numbers in year 1.
