Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Yes, Taylor finished the season on fire last year and was absolutely dominant down the stretch. However, we have to acknowledge the defenses that he was playing against during that time and that they weren't exactly top-tier units. As we project forward, it's important to keep in mind the offensive philosophy from this team and that they want to utilize multiple RBs in their rotation. With Marlon Mack back from injury, we should see him syphon some work away from JT and Nyheim Hines is always going to have his role. Taylor is still worth drafting as a top-10 RB, but we should be tempering our expectations for him heading into 2021.Did you know that Joe Mixon has actually played more games than Dalvin Cook since they both came into the league in 2017? Yet somehow Mixon gets labeled as an injury risk every single season and Cook is being drafted as a top-3 pick this year. While Cook's production when he's on the field is certainly worthy of a top-3 pick - don't get me wrong - it goes to show the recency bias that comes into play for fantasy managers when they're on the clock. When Mixon is on the field, he's going to receive one of the heaviest workloads in the entire league. He's a top-5 talent at the RB position in the league and this offense is set to take a major jump in 2021 with Joe Burrow and his bevy of receiving weapons. If Mixon had been shut down immediately last season and put on IR when his injury occurred, we wouldn't have this perception in our minds of him as a huge injury risk. However, because of Zac Taylor's inconsistent commitment to Mixon returning to the lineup last year, fantasy managers have a bad taste in their mouths. Go get some mouthwash, clean out that taste, and draft Mixon at a major discount this year. The production's going to be too good to pass up and if you can get him as a RB2 on your roster, you're well on your way to a fantasy championship.

Taylor catches a break with injuries at QB, O-line not looking as long-term as initially projected, but of minor concern still is talk of backup RBs easing the load a bit more in 2021If Mixon can stay healthy, HC Taylor is basically showing his cards that he plans to make him one of the highest volume RBs in the NFL

DEVELOPING STORY.....Carson Wentz had surgery on his foot. It looks like he'll be back at practice Aug 23rd. If he suffers a setback that would be devastating for the Colts offense, including Jonathan Taylor. Also note, the Colts have a history of downplaying/flat out lying about injuries/outlooks: Edgerrin James' knee, Andrew Luck's retirement, etc. I don't trust the Colts any farther than I can throw them regarding their honestly about their players' injuries/outlooks. If Wentz is forced to miss a lot of time, you'd have to think Indy would call Chicago about Nick Foles who is languishing on their bench. He has a good relationship with Frank Reich from his time in Philly and knows the offense. The Colts are in win now mode. Their offense needs a veteran QB at the helm. Also just in all-pro Quenton Nelson has a bone issue in his foot, is having surgery, and is on a similar timeline. I bumped Taylor down the rankings. As more becomes available I will keep you updated! Stay tuned! Jonathan Taylor started out slow, but by the end of the year he was a run away freight train. Marlon Mack is back after signing a new deal and is healthy again. How will the Colts split up the carries? They invested a high pick in Taylor so he should get the bulk of them. The concerns with Taylor are: 1.) he was prone to fumbles in college and 2.) He's not the best at catching passes, which limits his upside in half and full point PPR formats. That said, this Colts team should be in a lot of shootouts in the AFC South. Taylor should get a bunch of TDs in 2021.Mixon is a rare three down RB. He's excellent at catching passes and a talented runner. The comp scouts gave when he came out of college was LeVeon Bell. Gio Bernard left for Tampa in free agency so he should get the third down work. The concern: 1.) Did the Bengals do enough in the offseason up front to help the blocking for Mixon and Burrow? They signed Riley Reiff in free agency and drafted Jackson Carman out of Clemson. Mixon might be a year away from fantasy greatness. He has the chops. That's not in doubt. The question, is that enough in 2021? If things break right- (aka- Joe Burrow must stay healthy)- then yes!

Taylor is just on the cusp of a RB1 ranking, but concerns about Carson Wentz, Indy's offensive line, and the backups Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines have me a little wary. He proved to be a workhorse back as a rookie, but will he enjoy such an enormous volume in Year 2?Though Mixon is collectively viewed as a "pass-catching back," his career high in single-season receptions is just 43 from 2018. He was on pace to blow his rushing and receiving numbers out of the water in 2020 before injury caused him to miss 10 games. Still, it's worth noting that Mixon has never racked up 1,500 scrimmage yards or double-digit touchdowns, and he's never finished higher than RB9 in a single season.

Feeling better that Reich has called him the lead horse, but still concerned if he'll follow through after it took a Jordan Freakin' Wilkins injury for Taylor to truly break out.No Gio Bernard. No real rookie competition added. Even more explosive offense with Chase here assuming Burrow is healthy. Line may suck, but Mixon is easily one of the top winners of the offseason -- and OC has publicly stated he has "no interest in load management" as Mixon looks like the best player in camp

This time last year, I was much higher on Taylor than the consensus. I like Taylor, but did everyone forget about what happened the first 10 weeks of the season? Taylor was the RB19 and David Montgomery was the RB20. Taylor finished the year as the RB6 while Montgomery was the RB4. Many will talk about Montgomery's schedule as the reason for his production, hence why he's ranked at RB20 in ECR right now, but are they ignoring Taylor's schedule? He played against the Texans TWICE, Packers, Raiders, Jaguars, and the Steelers (who were decimated by injuries in that game). That's a large reason for his jump in production. I still like Taylor, just not nearly as much as the consensus.Over the final nine games of 2019, Zac Taylor gave Mixon 214 touches (23.8 per game), which made us believe they'd finally realized he should be used in a workhorse fashion. The start of 2020 wasn't as generous, but he did average 19.7 touches per game over the first three weeks. Then we saw Giovani Bernard get knocked out of the lineup for a few weeks, and it led to Mixon totaling 27.0 touches per game over the next three weeks before getting hurt. Now that Bernard is gone, are we finally going to get a full season's worth of 20-plus touch games for Mixon? If so, top-five is in the realm of possibilities, especially knowing he'll be more involved in the passing game. Don't sleep on Mixon; he's still a top-10 running back talent-wise.

Top analyst Shawn Siegele has Taylor as his 4th overall pick in drafts, certainly makes me think I should have him higher. 16 carries from inside the 5 as a rookie.

When Marlon Mack went down with a season-ending injury in Week 1, everyone expected Taylor's breakout to come immediately. But it didn't. Instead, it was a frustratingly slow build, during which it felt like Taylor left rushing yards and fantasy points on the table every game. But if you held out long enough, you were rewarded with a dominant stretch, during which Taylor feasted on a six-game stretch of soft run defenses, enough to propel him to a finish as the RB6 on the season. With an upgrade in quarterback and running behind a strong offensive line once again, a healthy Taylor should amass fantasy points aplenty this year.

Jonathan Taylor enters 2021 as a volatile first-round fantasy selection. This isn't meant to be a cop out in terms of taking a stance on him. Instead, it's important to understand this about him when it comes to roster construction. Taylor could very well be the No. 1 pick in 2022 redraft leagues. He could also be a frustrating player to roster given the uncertainty Carson Wentz brings to this entire Indianapolis offense. Another factor working against Taylor is the presence of Nyheim Hines, who should be considered the favorite for passing game work out of the backfield (no matter how much Taylor is "working on his hands" this summer). Ultimately, Taylor was an elite prospect entering the league and he smashed down the stretch of his rookie season. He isn't a known commodity like Nick Chubb or Aaron Jones, and therefore picking him requires a certain amount of risk tolerance, but I'd be willing to bet on an ascending player who has an overall RB1 finish in his range of outcomes.Entering his fifth season in the NFL, Joe Mixon is once again set up for a massive fantasy campaign -- on paper, at least. We've been here before with Mixon and it hasn't always gone according to plan. For those who view him as injury prone following a frustrating 2020 in the health department, it's important to note that he appeared in 44-of-48 possible games from 2017-19. The departure of Gio Bernard to the Bucs gives Mixon a legitimate chance at seizing a three-down workload in (likely) the best/fastest offense he has ever played in. It's set up for him to smash. O n paper, at least...

It's easy to understand people being frustrated with Joe Mixon in 2020, but once Joe Burrow was done, there was no reason to push him back onto the field after his injury. The Bengals invested heavily in Joe Mixon last off season, and there are no challengers to his position in the offense. He also had back to back 1K yard rushing seasons before 2020's disappointment. Having faith and buying back into Mixon for '21 is a good idea and will be rewarded.

Taylor played so well down the stretch last season that many forget we looked like a bust for a big chunk of the season. With the rookie jitters shaken-off, the powerful Taylor looks like a lock to be a top-10 back in year 2. The two concerns, the downgrade at left tackle and the QB question. If Carson Wentz can return to his once dominant form, the sky is the limit for Taylor.Beware of the narrative of "improved OL." The addition of rookies can be a great thing for an offensive line, i.e. last year's Tampa Bay Bucs, but it can also make a glaring problem worse, i.e. last year's NY Giants. Mixon will likely see insane volume, but he has been historically inefficient and, unless 2nd-round-pick OT Jackson Carman is a transcendent talent, there is no way you can predict, with a straight face, Mixon will be more efficient with his opportunities. Unless you are getting Mixon as your RB 2 in the late second or third round of your drafts, stay away.

Taylor was sixth among fantasy running backs with 234.8 fantasy points, but he ended the season with 125.3 fantasy points in his final 5 games. I think he picks up where he left off in his second year and he is a more consistent elite RB1 running behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL.Mixon has averaged only 4.5 and 4.0 yards per touch the last two years and he missed 10 games with injury last year. Mixon has a ton of talent, but he is a dicey RB2 due to injuries and a bad offensive line.
