Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Brandin Cooks was looking for his fifth consecutive 1000+ yard season in 2019 but instead ended up with his fifth consecutive concussion. This one kept him out for a few games but he was mostly ineffective when playing anyway, proving nothing more than a deep threat behind Woods, Kupp, Higbee and Gurley. Now in a re-modelled Texans receiving corps, Cooks will have the opportunity to fight it out with Will Fuller, Randall Cobb and Kenny Stills for targets. This offense has plenty of points in it but it far from guaranteed Cooks will get enough to make him a weekly fantasy starter. He's still injured going into the season opener too, adding another red flag.John Brown had an impressive career resurgence in 2019, exploding to 1000 yards and 6 TDs with 37% of the team's air yards as the Bills RB1. With Stefon Diggs now in town, we can expect some more freedom for Brown but also a lot of very quiet games. He'll be difficult to start with any certainty and is a boom/bust option better suited to Best Ball.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Acquired from the Rams in April, Cooks will be tasked with helping to fill the void created by Houston's March trade of DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona. Coming off a season in which he averaged a career-worst 41.6 receiving yards per game with a career-low two touchdowns, Cooks is the most likely candidate to emerge as Houston's top receiving option in 2020.Brown set career-high marks in targets, receptions and yards in his first season with the Bills in 2019. With Buffalo having acquired Stefon Diggs from Minnesota in a March trade, Brown is unlikely to replicate those numbers in 2020 for a team that's built to win with defense and controlling the football. He also catches passes from a quarterback who isn't particularly accurate.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There have been just nine wide receivers who've finished as a top-24 receiver in at least four of the last five years. Julio Jones, Mike Evans, Jarvis Landry, Michael Thomas, DeAndre Hopkins, Antonio Brown, Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, and... Cooks. He's done that with three different quarterbacks, and it's hard to say Deshaun Watson is a downgrade. The lack of offseason might prove to be a lot for the chemistry between the two, but knowing Cooks has transitioned well in the past, it shouldn't take too long. Concussions, on the other hand, are a big worrisome point. He only missed two games due to concussions in 2019, but they're starting to add up. It also affected his performance (clearly) in a big way, as he never topped 46 yards in the six games following the injury. There's going to be one of Will Fuller or Cooks who shines as a top-30 receiver with top-20 upside, yet neither are being drafted there. Knowing Cooks has been in this situation before, he gets a vote of confidence. If you land him as your WR4, you should be psyched. If Fuller misses any time, he'd be a must-play WR2 nearly every week. The addition of Stefon Diggs likely crushed the appeal that Brown had in fantasy football. The Bills gave up a first, fourth, fifth, and sixth-round pick for Diggs (and a seventh rounder). That's a lot. The fact that there will be no preseason certainly helps Brown, as he has experience and chemistry with Josh Allen, as well as knowing the offense. Here's the crazy part about Brown last year: He hit WR3 or better numbers in 73.3 percent of his games, which ranked 11th in the league. He only hit WR2 or better numbers in 26.7 percent of his games, which ranked 51st in the league. Now start removing targets to get Diggs his, and we suddenly lose some of that WR3 floor that he had. He is a good football player who just won't get enough targets to start on a consistent basis. Now, if Diggs were to miss any time, we could go back to playing him as a low-end WR2/high-end WR3. Until then, Brown is in the WR4 range for me.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Brandin Cooks once again finds himself on a new team, now with the Texans. Things could be worse considering he'll get to catch passes from Deshaun Watson but talent and opportunity have never been the problem for Cooks, it's always been about staying healthy. He has suffered multiple concussions over the last few years which adds major risk. On the flip side, if he stays healthy, he could be more dangerous than ever with Watson.Brown had a solid 2019 season eclipsing 1,000 yards but was unlucky in the TD department finishing with only six. Now, the Bills have added Stefon Diggs to the receiving room which doesn't bode well for Brown. Both Brown and Diggs make their money on the deep ball and there are only so many of those targets to go around. I don't see him being consistent enough to be trusted as a weekly starter but he's still worth a roster spot.

Absent his concussion history, Cooks would be a draft-day target. He's an excellent receiver, with no better evidence than the fact that he had three straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons on three different teams. And taking over for DeAndre Hopkins, who has seen at least 150 targets in in five straight seasons, is an excellent spot. But Cooks has battled multiple concussions - at least five in his professional career - and the risk is of him missing time is extremely high. It would be wonderful if Cooks could play a full season this year, but drafters should be leery of drafting Cooks as a WR3 given his history.

Originally with Brees and the Saints, Cooks had 1100 yards and at least 8 TDs both seasons before heading to NE. In his first year with NE, Cooks put up nearly 1100 and 7. Then he went to the Rams, where, in his first season, he put up 1200 and 5. Cooks is no stranger to switching teams, no stranger to playing with great QBs, and no stranger to putting up very solid numbers. He was even WR29 last season prior to his injury. He's simply being under drafted.Brown was 22nd in WR targets last season, was 31st in true target value (brotofantasy.com), and finished 20th in FPPG. He over-performed last season and may see less work with Diggs in town. With that said, this risk is currently baked into his ADP.

Cooks is changing teams yet again this season, but there may not have been a better place for him to land. There are a ton of vacated targets in Houston after the departure of Deandre Hopkins and Cooks could see a significant amount of them. Will Fuller will certainly be involved, as will Randall Cobb, but otherwise Cooks could very well lead this offense in targets. There's risk involved in drafting him, which is why his ADP is lower, but it could pay off in a big way for whoever selects him.Brown was fantastic last season, but he's going to see a bit of regression this year with the addition of Stefon Diggs to the offense. Diggs is going to command targets, which limits Brown's overall ceiling. He's nothing more than a WR3/FLEX option this season that has the potential to win you a week with one or two big plays.

Among the biggest busts of 2019 , but previously had been so consistent he deserves forgiveness... especially now as Watson's new No.1... will love the newfound deep ball accuracy. Is about to EAT number two corners with Diggs drawing away premium defensive attention, even if the volume takes a slight hit

The fun part is trying to figure out who will disappoint out of the Rams WR trio if they decide to continually target the TE or if the TE targets were mostly due to Cooks absence. What I hadn't realized is that Cooks only missed 2 games(Basically 3). Despite still being around the TE revolution still happened, and the consistency of the WRs suffered. Almost 2 less targets per game for Cooks in 2019 vs 2018. Passer Rating when targeted: 2019 - 88.1, 2018 - 115.9, 2017 - 106.9Can be a perfectly fine fill in as your NFL team's WR1 but it isn't the roll he's best suited for. Even filling that roll this year he wasn't a clear target hog. Will most likely get pushed to second fiddle when the draft comes along but I think that effects his perceived fantasy value more than his actual worth. Can still get around 100 targets and be flexy.

Texans acquired WR Brandin Cooks and a 2022 fourth-round pick from the Rams in exchange for the No. 57 overall pick of the 2020 draft. Cooks, who has suffered some concerning (head) injuries in recent years but not missed much time, is coming off by far the worst campaign of his career. Somehow, this is the third time he's been traded in three years. He has a bad contract and has suffered at least five concussions as a pro.
