Talent and role could have Gordon be a top-10 freak. But who can possibly trust this kid?I don't buy the preseason negativity. Pettis could easily rank higher, but no matter what he's a high upside theft.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
He's back... The NFL decided that the few games he missed at the end of last season was enough of a suspension, and that Gordon will be active Week 1. With the lack of receiving options in New England, Gordon is likely to walk into a 6-8 target role, giving him low-end WR2/high-end WR3 probability, though we all know he can disappear at any minute, adding plenty of risk to selecting him in that range. He didn't start for the 49ers right away, which was somewhat puzzling, but when Pettis got onto the field, he flashed a bit. It was Week 10 when Pettis turned into a full-time player, and from then until Week 16, he was the No. 20 wide receiver in fantasy, with Nick Mullens as his quarterback. The 49ers did add Deebo Samuel in the draft, but as we saw with Pettis, there's no guarantee he'll be a starter right away. Even if so, Jimmy Garoppolo returning to the lineup should only help his consistency in fantasy lineups
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
His per game production in NE last season was backend WR2 worthy - with no learning curve this time around, he could be even better so long as he can stave off mental demons
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Gordon has been reinstated and is obviously in a great situation in a Rob Gronkowski-less Patriots offense. If we knew he'd be on the field the whole season, he'd likely be a WR2, as he now knows the New England system and has as much raw talent as anyone. With the question marks, however, Gordon is just a borderline WR3, although he has more upside than anyone going in his range.Pettis is on plenty of breakout lists this year, after he came on strong at the end of his rookie campaign last season. But the early reports this preseason have been somewhat discouraging. Nowhere was that more evident than in the 49ers' first preseason game against the Cowboys, during which the vast majority of the starters sat out but which Pettis started and played 17 snaps. With Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd having good camps, it sounds like Pettis will need to pick things up to even lock down a starting role. Still, this could all be a motivational ploy by Kyle Shanahan, so don't downgrade Pettis too much just yet. But at this point, the situations is worth monitoring.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Josh Gordon: "We are all rooting for Josh to succeed, both personally and professionally. Everyone shares in that hope and will continue to support him to every extent possible. But as Josh acknowledged, ultimately his success is up to him." Gordon's three games played last year without Gronk... 4-100 on 7 targets, 5-130-1 on 9 targets, 4-81 on 12 targets @LordReebs Josh Gordon's 16 game pace with Tom Brady was 98 targets, 1,047 yards, 4.3 touchdowns. His 2018 PPR PPG (11.56) ranks as WR35. His 1.89 Points Per Opportunity would rank 2nd of all qualifying wide receivers behind only Tyler Lockett (1.99). @JetPackGalileo

Fantasy Football Advice
There have been 2 WR's ever to have over 2,400 receiving yards before their age 23 season while averaging 17+ YPR…Randy Moss and Josh Gordon. Gordon has averaged 74 receiving yards per game over his career, including 40/720/3 in his 11 games with the Pats last season. Brady also averaged 11.3 yards per attempt when targeting Gordon last season. That has his most yards per attempt when targeting any play in his career. Gordon was PFF's 17th rated WR in games he played for the Pats last season, posting a higher WR grade than his teammate Julian Edelman. Gordon showed he's still an elite WR…gaining 90 yards or a TD in half of his games. Including 70 or a TD in 2/3rds of his games, while maintaining 18 yards per reception...second to only DeSean Jackson last season. Gordon's season pace with the Pats was 58/1,047/4.4. That's not going to win leagues…but it's on pace to finish as a WR 2. Also, that's after being traded and coming off injury. He's been working out with Brady, and there's a job opening at outside WR. The risk is obvious…but Flash has finally been reinstated. There are a few more hurdles he needs to overcome, but he's going to be the starting WR for the New England Patriots in week 1. GET PUMPED.I love Pettis this season. Everything went wrong for the 49ers last season and he was still able to post respectable numbers while he was healthy. Pettis is now the cleat #1 WR on an ascending offense, with an above average QB. He averaged 14 half PPR points per game over the last 5 weeks after he finally looked healthy, and that's as a rookie. I do think that the 49ers want to run the ball a good amount this season, but assuming Jimmy G looks good in camp…then they have plenty of weapons to feature the pass. This isn't a situation where Pettis is the only option and so teams can sell out on him. Kittle is going to be the main focus of defenses, but they also get McKinnon back, they signed Coleman…who looks like he's going to have a role in the passing game. Pettis is going to be the top targeted WR, and teams will not be able to shift the defense to stop him. He's a great target in the middle rounds of drafts.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Now that Gordon has been reinstated, he jumps up into WR2 territory. There is, of course, risk that he doesn't stay on the field, but do remember that he was on pace for over 1,200 yards in the 8 games he played at least half the Patriots' snaps last season. If not for resuspension risk, he'd be a fringe WR1 like T.Y. Hilton.Kyle Shanahan has an excellent history with receivers like Pettis who are supreme route runners. In fact, with Jimmy G returning under center, Pettis has an outside shot at 100 receptions. There is some risk as there are plenty of weapons and unknowns, but in the 7th round you could do much worse with your WR3.
KJ
Fantasy Team Advice
Conditionally reinstated by the NFL. Has the talent to be a league winner but have to bake in his off the field issues (pun intended)
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Pettis is looking like he will emerge as the 49ers top wide receiver and he should have solid WR3 value this year.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Shanahan traded up for Pettis and once he became the WR1, he put up double digit points from weeks 12 - 15. Pettis also put up those numbers with the 38th ranked true target value, showing that he exceeded expectations given his QB and targets. With Jimmy G, his TTV would have been 26th, so he's looking like a legit WR2.
