FantasyPros
Jacobs was in a RBBC at Alabama and he had only 120 caries last year, but he is a very talented back that should earn the lead role in Oakland. He is a high-end RB3 with upside if he can handle a starting running back role in the NFL.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Any time you have a running back drafted inside the first round of the NFL Draft, you'd better consider him in fantasy football. Why? Over the last six years, first-round running backs have averaged 283.4 touches in their rookie season. While the Raiders aren't likely to be a high-scoring offense, they should be improved significantly with the talent they've added on offense. Jacobs should be a low-end RB2, at worstIt's clear the Bears didn't think Jordan Howard fit their offensive scheme after sending him away for a sixth-round pick, right? So, what does that say about Montgomery, who they traded up into the third-round to get? Howard finished as the RB20 in his first season under Matt Nagy. Montgomery was likely the best pure runner in the draft who's already shown the ability to handle a workhorse role, and offers more in the passing-game than Howard did, though most of that work will go to Tarik Cohen. Montgomery was drafted on a team that's built to win right now, which means he'll have big value immediately
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
If Jacobs is going to win the starting job, he's firmly on my radar as a high upside RB2I love what I've seen from Montgomery and as a Packers fan, it brings tears to my eyes. He's going to be very good right away and I feel like I should be ranking him higher.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
The Raiders used a first-round pick on Jacobs, so he should see a prominent role in the offense, particularly with Isaiah Crowell suffering a torn Achilles. Jacobs never had a huge workload in college, so it's unclear whether the Raiders intend to use him as a bell-cow back, especially with the re-signing of Doug Martin. Regardless, Jon Gruden's system works well for running backs, and Jacobs' pass-catching ability should give him a high floor each week. He should make a solid RB2 in all formats. The Bears drafted Montgomery in the third round and he has been impressive so far this preseason. If he was all there was in the Bears backfield then fantasy owners would likely be drafting him as a low-end RB1. But of course they still have Tarik Cohen and they signed Mike Davis, so Montgomery is going to need to share the workload. Given the positive talk about him leading into the season, however, Montgomery should be drafted as a mid-tier RB2.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
There is a massive opportunity share awaiting Jacobs in this OAK offense, both on the ground and through the airDraws K. Hunt comparisons because of his vision, versatility, break-tackle running style, and former KC OC M. Nagy drafting Montgomery leads to thoughts that he's looking for his next Hunt in CHI
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Has been told that he will be the workhorse, which makes him an appealing pick, but the Raiders offense line looks to be in bad shape. Riskier than he may seem on the surface.Since PFF started tracking college football, no running back has forced more than 100 missed tackles in a season. Except David Montgomery, who has done it twice. Montgomery was an absolute workhorse for Iowa State over the course of his collegiate career, he racked up 1200 yards last season with the most missed tackles overall and the most missed tackles per attempt which is even more impressive. He's elusive, he's a good pass blocker, he wasn't super involved in the passing game and wasn't a very good route runner when given the opportunity, but showed some solid hands. Had 71 total receptions in his career without a single drop, so wouldn't be super surprised to see him get a little more work pass catching in the NFL but might need some time to develop if he wants to be a true three down back.

The upside - In a dreadful offense last season, Marshawn Lynch, Doug Martin, Jalen Richard, and Deandre Washington ran for 1473 yards and 8 TDs. The downside - Richard is still on the team and had 68 catches for 607 yards last season. The Antonio Brown saga is also one to monitor, as having Antonio Brown on the field will obviously benefit the young RB.Jordan Howard had 1,080 total yards and 9 TDs despite seemingly disappearing from the offense at times last season. If that is the baseline for Montgomery, he'll likely match or exceed the value at his ADP. The issue? Mike Davis may be a thorn in his side after signing in the offseason, starting the first preseason game, and being backed by Nagy throughout the offseason.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
With what seems to be no competition for the job, most anticipate Jacobs to have a huge workload. That may be the case, but we never saw him handle those type of touches or anything close in college, and Jalen Richard likely isn't going away in the passing game. While Jacobs is a safe bet for RB2 production, it might be wise to temper expectations in this offense.Jordan Howard is now gone after producing for fantasy owners despite lackluster efficiency. Many will take this to mean that the much more talented Montgomery will become a stud from day one, but Mike Davis is in town now too and Tarik Cohen isn't going anywhere so it might not happen quite so quickly.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Josh Jacobs is an extremely interesting pick this season. At his current ADP, he's a safe pick with a decent amount of upside. I'm cool drafting him in that mid third round range...but I'm afraid his ADP will climb a bit when hard knocks is released. At any rate, we know that he's going to be used as the featured back in this offense. Teams always use their RB's when they take them in the early to mid first round, and this is especially so seeing how Jacobs was drafted with the pick they received in the Mack trade. My current projection on him is around 1,200 total yards, and 6.8 total TD's. That comes out to the 21st highest ranking among RB's. I feel comfortable ranking him higher than the RB 21, though, because of the safety. We know that he's going to be used in all aspects of the game, and we know that this offense is going to improve on its number from last season.David Montgomery is a very interesting pick in the middle rounds of drafts this season. He's a better RB than Jordan Howard, and he's a much better weapon in the passing game. So, it seems like a no brainer that you should be targeting him at his 4th round ADP. They spent an early third round pick on him, their defense is still going to be elite, and their offense is on track to finish in the top 10. All of this sets Montgomery up for an amazing rookie season. There are some risks though. The Bears have said that they want to cycle in Mike Davis on early downs, and that Cohen will still be used as a pass catcher. So, this has the potential to be a committee. At the end of the day, we're going to see how they plan on running this offense during the preseason, so I'll be able to adjust my rankings accordingly. Right now, my take is that Davis is a very small threat, and that Montgomery is more likely than not to pay off his ADP. If they gave Howard 250+ carries in each of his three seasons, than Montgomery should approach that at the very least, with an expanded passing game role as well.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
While underutilized at Alabama, Jacobs constantly displayed the talent that warranted his 1st round selection. He now enters an offense that is committed to running the ball and Jacobs is going to be the centerpiece. He's a well rounded running back and should be an immediate fantasy star right out of the gate.Montgomery steps into a dynamic offense and immediately becomes the starting running back for the Chicago Bears. Montgomery displayed exceptional elusiveness, vision and receiving ability in college and this sets him up extremely well to have a solid rookie campaign. Even with all the weapons there in Chicago, Montgomery is going to receive a ton of volume week in and week out. He's a solid RB2 for your fantasy team that you can get right now in the mid to late rounds.
