FantasyPros
The start to Sanders' career hasnt been what we'd hoped for, delivering RB2 or better numbers in just 14-of-28 of games (50 percent). To be fair, he hasn't been used in a workhorse role, totaling more than 15 touches just 11 times over that span. Will the departure of Doug Pederson allow him to shine, or will Nick Sirianni implement a timeshare as well? The depth chart now consists of Sanders, Kerryon Johnson, and Kenneth Gainwell, so this could very well be a Colts-like backfield, which would make sense given that's where Sirianni comes from. Sanders should be treated as a timeshare RB2 who's more talented than most in that conversation.I remember last year when Jacobs was going as a late first-round pick, though I wanted nothing to do with him at that price due to his lack of involvement in the passing game the previous season. Nothing changed except they added more pass catchers. He did get a slight bump in targets (45), though nothing you could rely upon every week. What's changed this offseason? The Raiders decided to pay Kenyan Drake a good chunk of money to come in and share the workload with Jacobs, forcing his fantasy stock to plummet. Drake was essentially the same running back as Jacobs last year, though we've seen him produce in the passing game before. Did the addition of Drake drop Jacobs' price too far, or is this a backfield to simply avoid if possible? I believe he's fallen enough to consider a value as a low-end RB2 who should see be in line for 250-plus touches. The expectations were out of control last year, but if you can get him in the fifth round this year, I'm buying.

The Good: If you pressed fast forward on the 2020 season and just looked at end of year stats, you might be extremely happy with the output you got from Jacobs. The second year back ended the season as an RB1 in PPR formats (10th), saw 8.2% of his teams targets, and improved across virtually every pass-catching category from his rookie season. He also got the work where it counts most in fantasy with 68 red zone opportunities, the most in the NFL. Jacobs turned those touches into 12 TDs, 4th most in the NFL. Outside of those numbers, however, I would be reaching to give you any more good news about Jacobs. The Bad: There is no way to put this mildly, Jacobs had one of the most wildly inefficient seasons in football last season. He basically pulled a Mixon™. Jacobs' TDs were his saving grace but, as the saying goes, TDs are the hardest factor to predict year-to-year in fantasy football. Removing the TDs from the equation really reveals how bad he was. Jacobs' .448 points per opportunity excluding TDs (PPOxTD) was good for a mind-blowingly awful 101st in the NFL. Meanwhile, while he produced -1.6 fantasy points over expected (FPTS oX), ranking him amongst the scrubs of the NFL at 114th. Furthermore, his 3.6 yards per carry was 82nd in the NFL and his four big plays (20 yards or more) was tied for 36th in the NFL with his teammate Devontae Booker, who broke off the same amount of big plays in about 1/3rd of the opportunities. In fact, in the 296 times Josh Jacobs touched the ball last season, he recorded exactly ZERO plays of over 30 yards. The most telling stat of all though my be his Rushing Yards over expected. Looking at his RYOE chart (exclusive to the Fantasy Football by BRoto app), after the fist several touches, Josh Jacobs never reached a point during the season where he had more yards than expected, dropping more than 100 yards below expected at multiple junctures in 2020.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
There were certainly positives from Jacobs' 2020 season, including that he scored 12 touchdowns and carried the ball 273 times, each third-most in the NFL among running backs. But ask any fantasy manager who rostered him and he or she will tell you that it never felt comfortable, even if Jacobs did finish as an RB1 in fantasy. Preseason chatter of a massive increased role in the passing game was pure fluff (he received just 45 targets on the year), and there was, of course, his Instagram hoax about not playing in Week 14. Now, he'll share running back work with Kenyan Drake, and the best-case scenario is that Jacobs handles the rushing down work while Drake comes on for passing downs, as Jon Gruden has suggested. That should leave Jacobs as a weak RB2 in half-PPR formats, one who needs consistent work around the goal-line to have significant value.

Sleepers and Busts
This might finally be the year Miles Sanders arrives. Jalen Hurts is a threat on the read option and that will open up running lanes for Sanders. Rookie WR Devonta Smith adds some much needed punch into the offense. The Eagles line was decimated with injuries last year. They should be much better in 2021. Many fantasy owners were burned by Sanders. The concern is that the Eagles continue with a RBBC by splitting the carries with Kerryon Johnson, Jordan Howard, and Boston Scott. Jalen Hurts could also vulture some TDs. Keep an eye on this in training camp. With a 3rd round ADP, that still seems too high for a guy in a RBBC. I need a better price point than that. The free agent signing of Kenyan Drake this offseason was a perplexing move by the same Raiders team that invested a 1st round pick in Josh Jacobs. Jacobs should still get the bulk of the carries, but this is hardly good news. And if that's not bad enough, the Raiders lost some key linemen in the offseason. The silver (and black) lining is that you can get Jacobs cheaper in 2021.
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Love that the team is turning to Hurts, as Sanders played significantly better w/ him under center. Wonder how new HC will deploy backs, don't enjoy Howard's return & they stole Gainwell. Love the talent and potential, but the volume & injury question marks have me a bit lower on MilesEven more uninspiring w/ Kenyan Drake added for a decent price. Lowers already small receiving upside.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Sanders had 156.4 fantasy points in 12 games and the Eagles have a new coach, Nick Sirianni. Sanders figures to be the featured running back in this offense and he is a borderline RB1 with upside if he can stay healthy.Jacobs had 214.8 fantasy points, but it took 306 touches and 12 TDS for him to reach that total. He is a RB1 based on usage, not efficiency and it remains to be seen if the Raiders try to lighten the workload for him in 2021 with the addition of Kenyan Drake.
