Mike Tagliere FantasyPros | It's clear that the Lions view Golladay as their long-term WR1, though you have to wonder just how high his ceiling will be. Despite Golden Tate leaving and Marvin Jones missing time at the end of the season, Golladay finished as the No. 21 receiver in fantasy. When drafting him as your WR2, understand that he may not have the upside or consistency of guys like Stefon Diggs and Brandin Cooks | It went from Hilton as the only show in town, to what looks like a full house. He'll now compete with Devin Funchess, Parris Campbell, Eric Ebron, Jack Doyle, and Nyheim Hines for targets. Even bigger, he just lost his superstar quarterback, Andrew Luck. This is a significant downgrade to Hilton's projection, as we've seen him play with Jacoby Brissett before. He's nothing more than a WR3 in fantasy leagues. |
Brandon Funston The Athletic | Entering his 3rd year, which used to be the magical breakout season for WRs, but with a 70/1063/5 line in '18, he kind of already broke out - with his talent and another year of experience, fair to expect even more in '19 | He was WR 25 in half-PPR in '17 with QB Brissett replacing an injured Luck for the season. I expect Brissett and Hilton to both be better versions of themselves this time around in a much better offensive environment than it was in '17 |
Kevin Roberts Breaking Football | Hilton can be great, but his best days have always been with Andrew Luck, who is now retired. That can't be good.
Bobby Sylvester FantasyPros | Golladay did have a mini breakout last season but it came while Marvin Jones was shelved and Golden Tate was playing in Philly. Now that he isn't the only competent receiver on the depth chart, his volume share should plummet. He is still a WR2, but be careful with the extent of your expectations. | Through his seven-year career, Hilton has finished inside the top 20 wideouts just 4 times and only once higher than #10. His upside is likely outside that top 10 being that he is 30 years old and sharing an offense with so many weapons. Add in a downgrade at QB and Hilton could end up as a WR3 by season's end. |
Derek Lofland FantasyPros | Golladay was one of the pleasant surprises in Detroit last year and he should have WR2 value playing with QB Matthew Stafford. | Hilton had only 76 receptions, but those went for 1,270 yards and 6 touchdowns. QB Andrew Luck's retirement is going to limit his big plays and he will likely be only a WR3 in an offense unable to stretch the field. |
Dan Harris FantasyPros | Golladay broke out last year, totaling over 1,000 yards and five touchdowns. But the vast majority of his production came after Golden Tate was traded and Marvin Jones went down with a season-ending injury. Given that Matt Patricia wants to run the ball as much as possible, it's unclear how much Golladay can produce with Jones in the lineup. But, the Lions should be behind in the majority of their games, so despite Patricia's desire, they'll likely need to throw the ball more. Golladay has talent but it's difficult to see him being much more than a mid-tier WR2 this season. That's certainly valuable, but not a superstar. | Hilton's outlook changes drastically with the news that Andrew Luck is retiring from the NFL. We've seen what happens to Hilton without Luck and it isn't pretty - he finished with just 966 yards, his only year below 1,000. It's a better offensive system now so Hilton should likely retain WR3 production with Jacoby Brissett, but drop him down your draft board quickly. |
Michael Petropoulos BRoto Fantasy | I liked Golladay A LOT last season but his price has gone up too much for me to like him this season. He went 70/1063/5, but that was without Marvin Jones for a significant amount of time, TJ Hockenson, and Darren Bevell, who will likely turn the Lions into a run first team for the first time in ages. | TY Hilton went 76/120 receptions/targets with 1270/6 in 14 games last season. This season he'll be Juju lite version, 90 receptions, which he's done before in 2016, 1500 yards, reached 1448 in 2016, and a career high 8 TDs. Why? The Colts are bringing back their entire offensive line for a second year which never happens in today's NFL and Andrew Luck is fully healthy. He is going to have time to throw, and that time is going to lead too even more TY Hilton bombs. He averages 16 Y/R in his career. |
Jason Petropoulos BRoto Fantasy | After Tate was shipped out last season, Babytron's 16-game pace was 80/1172/4.
Nick Zylak Fantasy Football Advice | Golladay is a popular breakout pick this season, but I've yet to take him in a mock draft. It's not that he's a bad pick, or that he needs to be avoided at all, but there just always seems to be someone else I'd rather have. Golladay posted a 70/1063/5 stat line in his sophomore season in 2018, and there is absolutely room for him to expand on that number this season. The Lions only good WR's are him, Jones and Amendola...so he's going to see a significant share of the targets. The problem is that 1) the Lions are going to run the ball a lot this season...and 2) Jones was used more as the downfield threat and red zone option before his injury last season. Golladay absolutely proved that he's capable of an expanded role, so that could change in his third year, but it's still tough to pull the trigger on him as often times my #1 WR (after going RB heavy in the first three rounds). By no means should you avoid Golladay, but for sure don't reach on him, because there are a lot of great options still on the board in his range. | As a result of a hamstring pull in week 4, Hilton missed week's 5-6, played on a limited snap count in week 7, then acted mostly as a decoy in week 8 before a week 9 bye. However, from week 10 on he posted a jaw dropping 917 receiving yards. If we take his average stat line from weeks 10-17, and extrapolate over a full season, it comes out to 100/1,834/4. Juju had the second most receiving yards over that stretch...with 163 less yards. Nick Sirianni and Frank Reich have done an amazing job with this offense, and the return of Doyle, plus the addition of Campbell should mean that no team can possibly double Hilton. He's going to have some mediocre weeks, but he's also going to win you a few on his own. I'm comfortable taking him at his current ADP. |
