FantasyPros
Despite having an extremely limited role to start the season, Johnson finished as the RB18 in points per game during his rookie season. The Lions did sign C.J. Anderson, but Johnson has already shown he's able to produce with a veteran on the roster, and he's openly admitted that he doesn't want to be a 20-plus-touch running back. He's not going to offer top-five upside, but Johnson should be an RB2 more often than notMost wouldn't believe it, but 2018 was Cooks' most consistent season from a fantasy standpoint. That's impressive considering it was his first year in the offense while the other receivers had more experience. He finished as a WR2 or better in 53.3 percent of his games, which ranked 14th among wide receivers. With Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods getting theirs, it'll be hard for Cooks to get into elite territory, but knowing he was this consistent should give drafters confidence in taking him as a high-end WR2
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Sophomore stud will head a run-centric offense under OC Bevell and should see a sharp rise in passing game work (60+ catches?) with RB Riddick out of the picThere was negligible difference between him and teammate Woods in fantasy last season - both were tucked right inside the top 20 in half-PPR FAN PPG
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Johnson will be a stud if the Lions feed him. There's risk in believing they will, but it's worth the gamble.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Johnson played 10 games in his rookie season, rushing for 641 yards and three touchdowns and adding 32 receptions. Although he missed the final six games of the season with a knee injury, he should be fully recovered. The Lions added C.J. Anderson this offseason, and so those who thought that the absence of LeGarrette Blount would lead to more carries for Johnson were likely incorrect. But with the release of Theo Riddick, Johnson should see more work in the passing game. If he can keep up what he did over his final eight games, he should be an excellent option this season.Cooks' lack of production in the fantasy playoffs may scare fantasy owners off, but it shouldn't. He's been remarkably consistent throughout his career, seeing at least 100 targets and totaling at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the past four seasons. Although Cooper Kupp should be back and healthy, Cooks was actually better with Kupp on the field, so that shouldn't be a negative for fantasy owners. He's a safe WR2, who should give you steady production all year.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Kerryon is a popular early-round pick this year for many and while he may be talented, this offense is unlikely to produce enough points to give him much of a ceiling. What's more, is that Kerryon himself has said he isn't a three-down back and the Lions haven't used him on third downs this preseason so make of that what you will.Cooks has now been a top 13 fantasy receiver in four straight seasons so if you are suddenly expecting that to change, you might be disappointed. He will have to split the target share with Woods and Kupp, of course, but Cooks has managed to produce these big numbers despite averaging just 119 targets per season in that time.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Kerryon Johnson was pulled on 3rd down on all 3 series he played last night -- twice for C.J. Anderson and once for Ty Johnson. @SmolaDS So it looks like he may not get the vacated Riddick touches.- 4 straight 1,000 yard seasons. - 4 straight seasons playing all 16 games. - 5,147 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Darren Bevell is the new OC. Darren Bevell likes to run. The sky is the limit for Kerryon now that Riddick is gone, as long as CJA does not carve out a significant role. KJ Had at least 85 yards in 5 of his last 6 games last season and developed into a consistent RB2. Has potential to increase his TD ouput after scoring only 4 times last season and to increase his receiving totals after going 32/213 in 10 games.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Darrell Bevell's 12 seasons as an OC saw his offenses finish top 10 in rushing yards ten times. So Johnson should be good to go on the ground. The Lions also released Theo Riddick who saw 71 and 74 targets the last two years. Johnson's receiving pace last season was 341 and 2TDs WITH RIDDICK THERE. So Johnson should be good to go through the air. Basically, Johnson is good to go.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
KJ was having a great rookie season before his injury. In that time he was 11th in breakaway percentage and 13th in yards per carry after contact. He was also the best RB on the Lions roster by a mile, ranking second in yards per carry compared to teammates (Scorr Barrett). The signing of C.J. Anderson is certainly annoying...and confusing...but I have full confidence that he'll command a large portion of the work in that backfield. KJ is also an exceptional pass catcher. He registered an 82% catch percentage, generating 32 receptions in 10 games, even with Theo on the roster. This season, the Lions cut Theo Riddick, meaning KJ will have the third down role completely to himself. Johnson has absolutely massive upside this season, and his only path to busting is through injury. I want him on my teams.I absolutely love Cook's 4th round ADP. This is guy who's posted four consecutive 1,100 yard seasons, even after playing with 3 different QB's! In fact, there have been just 5 players with at least 5,000 receiving yards and 30+ TD's before their age 26 season. Their names are Randy Moss, Larry Fitz, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, and Brandin Cooks (Pat Thorman). We know for a fact that Cooks is going to have a massive role on an elite offense, and that's not even considering that Kupp won't be 100% to start the seasons. He's and elite WR, with an elite opportunity share, on an elite offense. Cooks is a lock in the 4th round. He should absolutely be going in the early third in all formats.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Johnson showed well in 10 games, finishing the year with 641 yards rushing, 213 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns. Durability is the big concern, he will be recovering from a knee injury this off-season and he had only 118 rushing attempts. He is an upside RB2.Cooks is one of the best deep-ball threats in the NFL, but he is similar to Cooper in that he is a little hit or miss in a run-heavy offensive scheme.
