FantasyPros
Johnson showed well in 10 games, finishing the year with 641 yards rushing, 213 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns. Durability is the big concern, he will be recovering from a knee injury this off-season and he had only 118 rushing attempts. He is an upside RB2.Lindsey concerns me with a new coaching staff, a new quarterback, and RB Royce Freeman behind him on the depth chart. He is a risky RB2 with both upside coming off a solid rookie season and uncertainty with Freeman likely to carve out a bigger role this year.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Despite having an extremely limited role to start the season, Johnson finished as the RB18 in points per game during his rookie season. The Lions did sign C.J. Anderson, but Johnson has already shown he's able to produce with a veteran on the roster, and he's openly admitted that he doesn't want to be a 20-plus-touch running back. He's not going to offer top-five upside, but Johnson should be an RB2 more often than notIt's pretty rare to see a running back who finished top 12 his rookie season despite missing a game fall down draft boards the following year, especially when the team didn't add another running back. That's precisely the case with Lindsay, who will share some touches with Royce Freeman, but Lindsay has proven to be much more capable in the pass-game than Freeman, which gives him the nod as the starter. While there is some built-in risk, it's not enough to knock Lindsay out of solid RB2 territory
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Johnson will be a stud if the Lions feed him. There's risk in believing they will, but it's worth the gamble.Lindsay was fantastic as a rookie, but Royce Freeman deserves the ball more. He's a great RB2 or Flex, but I won't be forcing the issue.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Johnson played 10 games in his rookie season, rushing for 641 yards and three touchdowns and adding 32 receptions. Although he missed the final six games of the season with a knee injury, he should be fully recovered. The Lions added C.J. Anderson this offseason, and so those who thought that the absence of LeGarrette Blount would lead to more carries for Johnson were likely incorrect. But with the release of Theo Riddick, Johnson should see more work in the passing game. If he can keep up what he did over his final eight games, he should be an excellent option this season.Lindsay, an undrafted rookie, had a shocking breakout for the Broncos last year, totaling 1,278 yards and 10 touchdowns. He sustained a wrist injury late last year, needed surgery, and spent much of the offseason rehabbing. Despite his production, the Broncos seem intent on allowing Royce Freeman to split carries with Lindsay, and their signing of Theo Riddick (even though he is now injured) shows that they really want to spread the ball around in the backfield. Don't in any way forget about Lindsay on draft day as an RB2. But don't draft him expecting last year's numbers.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Kerryon is a popular early-round pick this year for many and while he may be talented, this offense is unlikely to produce enough points to give him much of a ceiling. What's more, is that Kerryon himself has said he isn't a three-down back and the Lions haven't used him on third downs this preseason so make of that what you will.Royce Freeman is plenty talented behind Lindsay so it would be fair to worry about that, but try to remember just how great Lindsay was last season. If he is healthy, he will play, even in a new scheme. Whether that means being more involved in the passing game or not, you can rely on Lindsay to produce again if he is on the field.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Kerryon Johnson was pulled on 3rd down on all 3 series he played last night -- twice for C.J. Anderson and once for Ty Johnson. @SmolaDS So it looks like he may not get the vacated Riddick touches.Extremely small sample, but Lindsay lined up from the slot + out wide on 2-of-8 'Flacco' snaps - a glimpse of what we've heard on his usage out of camp all offseason. @NotJDaigle
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Darren Bevell is the new OC. Darren Bevell likes to run. The sky is the limit for Kerryon now that Riddick is gone, as long as CJA does not carve out a significant role. KJ Had at least 85 yards in 5 of his last 6 games last season and developed into a consistent RB2. Has potential to increase his TD ouput after scoring only 4 times last season and to increase his receiving totals after going 32/213 in 10 games.Lindsay had over 1000 rushing yards, over 200 receiving yards and over 10 TDs last season. Despite that performance, he is now being disrespected and is expected to split carries. I still like Lindsay and expect him to get the lion's share of the touches. Solid pick at ADP.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Sophomore stud will head a run-centric offense under OC Bevell and should see a sharp rise in passing game work (60+ catches?) with RB Riddick out of the pic
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Darrell Bevell's 12 seasons as an OC saw his offenses finish top 10 in rushing yards ten times. So Johnson should be good to go on the ground. The Lions also released Theo Riddick who saw 71 and 74 targets the last two years. Johnson's receiving pace last season was 341 and 2TDs WITH RIDDICK THERE. So Johnson should be good to go through the air. Basically, Johnson is good to go.Booker saw 30% of the Broncos snaps last season. With that usage likely out of the window now, there's room for Lindsay to be very good even with the involvement of Royce Freeman. Things were looking up for Lindsay when his OC referred to him and Freeman as Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, but now his ceiling is capped with the signing of the pass-catching specialist Theo Riddick.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
KJ was having a great rookie season before his injury. In that time he was 11th in breakaway percentage and 13th in yards per carry after contact. He was also the best RB on the Lions roster by a mile, ranking second in yards per carry compared to teammates (Scorr Barrett). The signing of C.J. Anderson is certainly annoying...and confusing...but I have full confidence that he'll command a large portion of the work in that backfield. KJ is also an exceptional pass catcher. He registered an 82% catch percentage, generating 32 receptions in 10 games, even with Theo on the roster. This season, the Lions cut Theo Riddick, meaning KJ will have the third down role completely to himself. Johnson has absolutely massive upside this season, and his only path to busting is through injury. I want him on my teams.I have my concerns with Lindsay. I think he's a good RB, but the Broncos aren't going to very good this season, and Freeman isn't going anywhere. He was great last season, but he was only given over 15 carries in three games, and his TD rate is likely to regress from 9 on under 200 carries. He's also likely to see a few less carries, assuming Freeman can remain healthy this season. Lindsay can absolutely pay off his ADP, and I do like him in that late 4th/early 5th round range...but he's rarely still on the board at that point.
