Kerryon Johnson was pulled on 3rd down on all 3 series he played last night -- twice for C.J. Anderson and once for Ty Johnson. @SmolaDS So it looks like he may not get the vacated Riddick touches.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Darren Bevell is the new OC. Darren Bevell likes to run. The sky is the limit for Kerryon now that Riddick is gone, as long as CJA does not carve out a significant role. KJ Had at least 85 yards in 5 of his last 6 games last season and developed into a consistent RB2. Has potential to increase his TD ouput after scoring only 4 times last season and to increase his receiving totals after going 32/213 in 10 games.Check out my article on BRotofantasy.com regarding Michel's inflated ADP. He was very much a game script RB with no passing game involvement last season and there is nothing that says that will not remain the same this season. He also has degenerative knee issues and has never played even half the offensive snaps in a game.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Sophomore stud will head a run-centric offense under OC Bevell and should see a sharp rise in passing game work (60+ catches?) with RB Riddick out of the pic
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Johnson will be a stud if the Lions feed him. There's risk in believing they will, but it's worth the gamble
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Darrell Bevell's 12 seasons as an OC saw his offenses finish top 10 in rushing yards ten times. So Johnson should be good to go on the ground. The Lions also released Theo Riddick who saw 71 and 74 targets the last two years. Johnson's receiving pace last season was 341 and 2TDs WITH RIDDICK THERE. So Johnson should be good to go through the air. Basically, Johnson is good to go.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Kerryon is a popular mid-round pick this year for many and while he may be talented, this offense is unlikely to produce enough points to give him much of a ceiling. What's more, is that Kerryon himself has said he isn't a three-down back so his touches will be more limited than the names being drafted above him in the 4th and 5th round.Sony has plummeted down draft boards with the drafting of Damien Harris and multiple reports about concerns revolving Michel's knee. These are both scary for fantasy owners, but the price has now dropped low enough that you can afford to take a risk on someone with legitimate top 10 running back upside in this great Patriots' offense.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
KJ was having a great rookie season before his injury. In that time he was 11th in breakaway percentage and 13th in yards per carry after contact. He was also the best RB on the Lions roster by a mile, ranking second in yards per carry compared to teammates (Scorr Barrett). The signing of C.J. Anderson is certainly annoying...and confusing...but I have full confidence that he'll command a large portion of the work in that backfield. KJ is also an exceptional pass catcher. He registered an 82% catch percentage, generating 32 receptions in 10 games, even with Theo on the roster. This season, the Lions cut Theo Riddick, meaning KJ will have the third down role completely to himself. Johnson has absolutely massive upside this season, and his only path to busting is through injury. I want him on my teams.Honestly, I can't justify drafting Sony this season. Not only did the Patriots draft another RB early this season, but his knee is a concern. He's suffered a torn ACL, a fractured shoulder blade, multiple ankle sprains, a fractured forearm and three separate knee strains. Sony, unsurprisingly, has the second highest chance of injury this season according to sports injury predictor. You can also add volume reduction to his risk. We know that White is going to get most of the passing down work, and that Harris is going to take some of the early down work away from him. This backfield is very similar to that of Washington. Assuming everyone stays healthy, Sony isn't going to pay off his ADP. He would need a Damien Harris injury to be anything more than a TD upside FLEX play. Yet he's being drafted as a mid range RB 2. Save yourself the headache and just stay away from Sony this season.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Despite having an extremely limited role to start the season, Johnson finished as the RB18 in points per game during his rookie season. The Lions did sign C.J. Anderson, but Johnson has already shown he's able to produce with a veteran on the roster, and he's openly admitted that he doesn't want to be a 20-plus touch running back. He's not going to offer top-five upside, but Johnson should be an RB2 more often than notIt was a solid rookie year for Michel, who finished as the RB28 despite missing three full games. The issue with expecting a massive jump in production is his lack of usage in the passing game (just 7 receptions in 13 games), and the third-round draft pick of Damien Harris, as he's a threat to steal some early-down work. Still, Michel should provide RB2 value as long as he's healthy
Sean Koerner
The Action Network
chronic knee issues mean he could miss games. Damien Harris puts pressure on him. not ideal in any sort of PPR. he's more valuable in Best Ball as he will consolidate his value into several games he goes off
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Johnson showed well in 10 games, finishing the year with 641 yards rushing, 213 yards receiving and 4 touchdowns. Durability is the big concern, he will be recovering from a knee injury this off-season and he had only 118 rushing attempts. He is an upside RB2.Michel had a breakout postseason and that could carry over to a strong 2019 season. He does have some knee issues, but he should still be a solid RB3 with RB2 upside in 2019.
