Hail to Fantasy Football
I moved him down here to the end of Round 3 with Mahomes...which means I probably won't get either QB in fantasy drafts this year.Down a few spots. If Chris Thompson is healthy, Fournette's targets should go way down.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
What Jackson did in 2019 was remarkable on many levels, though many are expecting regression in 2020. Rightfully so, as he threw a touchdown on 9.0 percent of his pass attempts, which ranks 15th all-time, and ahead of Patrick Mahomes' 8.6 percent in 2018. If we dial that back to a managable 5.0 percent, Jackson would've thrown 20 touchdown passes instead of the 36 he did, which would result in 64 less fantasy points. That still would've been the No. 1 quarterback. And then you still have to factor in that he may have some positive regression with rushing touchdowns, as he rushed for 1,206 yards but scored just seven rushing touchdowns, which are worth more than passing touchdowns. By comparison, Josh Allen scored nine rushing touchdowns in 2019 while rushing for just 510 yards. Jackson will regress in passing touchdowns, but he might make up for it with a few more rushing touchdowns. If he stays healthy for all 16 games, he's a lock for top-two quarterback production. After trying to trade him prior to the NFL Draft, Fournette appears destined to play for the Jaguars once again in 2020. With Jay Gruden calling the offense, they should be much more efficient this year, though Fournette's volume made him a great play throughout 2019. The only running backs who offered RB2 or better numbers more often than Fournette in 2019 were Christian McCaffrey, Ezekiel Elliott, Dalvin Cook, and Austin Ekeler. Do they go with more of a timeshare under Gruden? it's possible, but he should still offer low-end RB1 value.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
The Jaguars spent most of the offseason trying to get away from Fournette and the result was that . . . they added Chris Thompson. Yes, that's going to mean a decline from the 76 receptions Fournette had last year, but normal regression would have led to a significant decrease in his target volume anyway. But Fournette also had the eighth-most rushing attempts inside the red zone last year and yet somehow scored only three touchdowns. His likely increase in finding the end zone should offset much of his loss of volume in the passing game, and combined should be enough to keep him as a fairly decent RB2 in fantasy leagues.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Produced greatest FAN PPG season by a QB in NFL history - could have thrown 10 less TD passes, rushed for 500 fewer yards yet still finished No. 1 QB in FAN PPGBiggest concern is not whether he'll see positive TD regression or take a major receptions hit with C. Thompson around, it's if JAX remains committed to him if/when losses pile up
Elliot Berkovits
Pack to the Future
Looking at Jackson's ability to run the ball and now his growing passing arsenal with weapons like Marquise Brown, Mark Andrews, and rookie Devin Duvernay. Barring injury, Lamar should finish QB1 once again and it shouldn't be close.Fournette is always one fo the trickest players in fantasy football. He's injury-prone and plays on a bad offense but at the same time, sees tremendous volume. The Jaguars did little to improve the backfield this year which would only indicate they are confident in Fournette being the bell cow. Injuries will always be a concern but at his current ADP, Fournette is a solid value.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
365 touches last season and only 57 evaded tackles. 90th in fantasy points per opportunity. Jay Gruden brought in his guy Chris Thompson to catch passes out of the backfield.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
The Ravens offense was hyper efficient last season, so regression is certainly expected, but that does not mean Lamar Jackson takes a big step back. I still think he ends as an overall top 3 QB, but am not currently drafting at ADP.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Jackson not only led the league in touchdown passes with 36, but he also ran for 1,206 yards. If he does not run as much this year, it may put him behind Mahomes, but these two are in an elite class by themselves.Fournette was strong when it comes to yards from scrimmage (1,674), but he had only 3 touchdowns. Fournette was actively shopped during the NFL Draft. The Jaguars are not going to have much patience with him not performing well this year, which makes him a risky fantasy player.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Jackson's going to have an absurd price tag this draft season, but the crazy thing is...he actually might be worth it. Jackson's rushing ability is a cheat code at the QB position and he has the potential to single-handedly win you a week because of it. Jackson should be off the board as either the first or second QB drafted.Fournette is the unquestioned lead back for a NFL team, which is always going to equate to fantasy impact. With that being said, he has a limited ceiling and it's hard to see a path where Fournette finishes as a top-15 RB this season.
Ben Rolfe
The Touchdown
In 4-point per passing touchdown format, Jackson is the clear number one thanks to his increased usage of his legs to make plays over both Mahomes and Watson
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
Leonard Fournette only scored three rushing touchdowns in 2019, but they accounted for every rushing score for the Jaguars. Those three rushing touchdowns were the lowest from a team since the 2005 Cardinals. Only 13 other teams in NFL history finished with that low of a total. (@LateRoundQB) I don't completely expect Fournette to stay as healthy as he did last year, but we should see some TD regression in 2020. In 2019 he set career highs in: games played: 15, rush yards: 1152, rushing 1st downs: 52, yards per att: 4.3, targets: 100, receptions: 76, receiving yards: 522, total touches: 341, total yards: 1674... for 6-10 team (@DFFMemphis)
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
After his historic 2019, Jackson has a lot of regression coming, but that's not to say he won't be amazing again in the future. He still has a massive amount of upside and no matter how often the Ravens insist Lamar will rush less moving forward, that's not going to entirely disappear from his game. I also don't believe his passing efficiency will remain at the same extraordinary level, he just doesn't have the arm talent or the weapons. Hence he's a lower floor option compared to Mahomes and I'm slotting him in as my QB2. Please don't reach for him in drafts as there's exceptional depth at QB this year.If Leonard Fournette remains the Jags workhorse RB he could be one of the bargains of the season. Often available in the third round, he offers league-winning upside in an attack with plenty of points in it. The risk is clearly high with the possibility the Jags go full rebuild and give Ryquell Armstead a proper crack or get forced to chase games. The upside is massive too though. Fournette finish RB9 with 1600+ yards but only 3 TDs in 2019. That's stupidly low and makes no sense given he had 57 red zone touches which is very high. Somehow, he only converted 5% of those looks, well down on his previous efforts of 25%. Regression to his TD average and a repeat of last season's yardage would mean 290 points and a top 5 finish. Take the gamble!
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
Went back to look at QB TD rates of QBs that rush for 700+ yards a season to see if maybe he'd be somewhat exempt from TD regression. Nope. An AVG TD rate of 4.67%. Lamar was at 9% in 2019. Regression is coming. It seems impossible to imagine it right now but we don't need our feet held to the fire for 2020 because of 2019.No matter what you think of Fournette, touching the ball 341 times, and only getting 3TDs is not sustainable, in a good way. I don't have a problem thinking Chris Thompson or Laviska take away a significant amount of targets, I just need the TDs to normalize to get ROI.
