Lineups
Denver clearly wants to establish the running game as more of a strength with the addition of Melvin Gordon, a top-ten fantasy back as recently as 2018. However, Philip Lindsay won't just go away as he's a very talented player and there are a lot of mouths to feed in this offense. Ultimately, Gordon's fantasy production will come down to a lot of factors he can't control and as much as I love the player, I don't love his current ADP.Le'Veon Bell's first season in New York did not go according to plan as he rushed for under 800 yards and just 3 touchdowns despite playing 15 games. The offensive line hasn't really gotten markedly better this offseason and I don't expect a massive improvement in the rushing efficiency for Bell. However, he had 66 receptions last season and his heavy pass-catching involvement makes him a safe, low-end RB2.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Signed to a two-year, 16 million deal in March with 13.5 million guaranteed, Gordon is expected to be the leader of a Denver backfield committee that includes Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman. He's unlikely to reach 1,000 rushing yards in 2020.For the majority of Bell's time in Pittsburgh, he benefited from the Steelers' offensive line consistently opening huge holes. That wasn't the case last year, as the Jets' atrocious line was unable to block effectively for Bell's blend of patience and twitch.
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Your ranking may vary depending on how much you think P. Lindsay will eat into Gordon's workload, the money is on the former Charger seizing a sizable advantageVolume remains elite, but it's going to take a leap of faith that improvements to the NYJ O-line and Bell's conditioning will catapult him back into the RB1 class
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
*Update* Gordon has tumbled down my big board since the start of training camp. Out of shape? Outplayed by Lindsey? Injured? Promised timesplit now? No, thanks. One of the biggest risers of this offseason. Line was a major Draft and Free Agency focus, and Mims provides some more field stretching help. Could go a long way to a Bell rebound, although Gore has a history under Gase and could carve out an annoying GL role
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Melvin Gordon to the Broncos is not as bad as most think. Gordon was clearly losing his role to Austin Ekeler and he now moves to an impressive run offense where he should be the clear lead guy. While Lindsay will clearly have a role, I expect Gordon to take the goal line carries, the 3rd down work and at least half of the between the tackles stuff making him the clear value in Denver. Given the Broncos backs combined for over 350 carries and 78 receptions, there's a lot of points to go around and Gordon should get the bulk of it. If Lindsay goes down there's always a chance he's a league winner too so the upside is there. Take a chance on him in the late 3rd round.Le'Veon Bell once again proved that situation often trumps talent for running backs, as a mediocre O-line and Adam Gase led to a Derrick Henry level of volume (10 fewer touches) for 100 fewer fantasy points. Bell has massive room for improvement though, as he has no true competition (sorry La'Mical) and huge regression upside. Bell's never been a high TD guy or overly efficient but 4 yards per carry and 8 total TDs isn't an unreasonal expectation and that would mean a top 10 finish. Bump those up a little and he becomes a league winner. He's a great third round gamble you can pair with any of the riskier RBs like Fournette, Drake, Carson, CEH and Sanders.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
He left the Chargers at the right time, as they're going to be going through a transitional period. Instead, he joins a now-exciting Broncos offense that suddenly has tons of firepower. You don't add Gordon in free agency if you don't plan on using him as your lead back. The potential upside is that new offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has been a one-back kind of guy, so it's possible that Phillip Lindsay is just there to give Gordon breathers when he needs them. With Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, and Noah Fant out there are receiving threats, Gordon should see a lot of light fronts this year. He's a middling RB2 with RB1 upside if they decide to give him 15-plus touches per game. You're going to see Bell fall down draft boards this year, and further than he should. That's odd for me to say, as Bell was someone I was avoiding like the plague in drafts. The difference? Expectations. Playing him as your first-round pick in your RB1 slot was never something anyone should've expected, especially behind that offensive line and in Gase's offense. While he's still stuck in Gase's offense, the offensive line was upgraded quite a bit this offseason, which should allow Bell more room to work. Even if he repeated his 2019 performance, that's RB2 production. There were just 11 running backs who produced RB2 or better numbers more often than him. Sure, he didn't have a ton of weekly upside, but he was safe. Now coming off the board outside the top three rounds, Bell is a value play.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
1 year to go off because Vic, and his OC Scangarello don't have much history at their current positions. Denver was an average ball running team in 2019. 409 attempts. The 100 RB targets were nice. Someone is going to disappear out of this offense. I think it's assumed to be Royce, I can believe that, but what roll do they plan on losing Lindsay in? Breather back? He can not pass block, Royce is the best on the team for that. So Lindsay now appears to lose out in every phase, one way or another to his teammates, might see less work than anticipated.Put up a RB1-2 point total at the 13th highest rate, despite only 4 total TDs on 311 touches, and a bottom 3 run blocking unit. Only had 9 10 zone attempts, which lines up with a 31st ranked scoring offense. Will it all be that bad again?

Gordon's contract suggests workhorse duties, but don't forget about Phillip Lindsay. He has back to back 1k yard seasons (more than Gordon has in his career). His goal line work should give him a high season long floor, but MG3 may have more frustrating games than people think.Bell mentioned he's in better football shape, let's hope that's true. If Gase feeds him in the passing game he will return RB2 numbers.

Same face, new place. Reports out of camp are that he looks "scary." I am all in considering what Phillip Lindsay was able to do last season. A savvy vet like Gordon should make himself right at home in the Denver offense. I expect a continuation of the Gordon/Ekeler combo now presented as the Gordon/Lindsay combo. Vic Fangio is old school and will definitely be running heavy to help out his young quarterback.*Adam Gase

Wasn't good since returning last year. Got signed to a $8 mil/year deal that should signal he is the bellcow for the Broncos. Hasn't been efficient as a runner in the NFL, but has more been a volume player. Lindsay and Freeman lurk and could leave Gordon as a leader in a committee rather than a workhorse.Bell had workhorse touches last year, but was inefficient in a bad offense. Year 2 with the Jets should allow for improvement in that category and he should still be a massive focal point in the offense. Not much competition and Bell has proven in the past to be one of the best backs in the league.

The Broncos backfield looks like it could be the trickiest one to figure out in all of football. They paid to bring in Gordon but still roster a young and highly-talented RB in Phillip Lindsay. I see this being a near 50/50 split which is never a good thing for fantasy owners. After a disappointing 2019 season, Bell is in need of a major bounce-back season which could be difficult considering he's playing on the Jets offense. I don't see Bell getting too many opportunities near the goal which means he'll have to rely heavily on his receiving numbers to be worthy of his ADP.

FantasyPros
When Gordon is healthy, he is capable of 1,500 yards from scrimmage and double digit touchdowns. He should be the lead back in Denver, but it will be a very crowded RBBC.Bell should benefit from the Jets adding T Mekhi Becton and WR Denzel Mims in the NFL Draft. They also added RB La'Mical Perine in the 4th round and RB Frank Gore in free agency, but neither should not be a huge threat to Bell's touches this season.

FantasyPros
Gordon's going to be splitting time with Phillip Lindsay this season, but Gordon should be the lead back in this offense. The Broncos are going to want to run the ball and Gordon should easily see over 210 carries this year. He's a solid RB2 option for your fantasy rosters.Adam Gase seems intent on taking the ball out of Bell's hands and splitting the work among his other running backs. Frank Gore and Lamical Perine are both going to eat into Bell's touches and it's going to limit his production. Bell is nothing more than a low-end RB2 in this Jets offense, despite being one of the more talented running backs in the NFL.

Last year there were only 3 RBs to have 240+ rushing attempts and 75+ targets. I think we would be expecting some "positive" regression for Bell, especially in the TD department, but it seems that Gase is a subscriber to the "RB's don't matter" philosophy. I expect Gore, Perine or one of the journeymen the Jets have horded to cut into Bell's upside.
