Draftwize
Preston Williams is a former 5-star Top-50 overall HS All-American who was at Tennessee before transferring to CSU. Off the field issues killed his draft stock. But make no mistake about it, the future is very bright for him with Tua in Miami. @RayGQueThe Athletic's Daniel Popper reports that the Chargers are "preparing for the possibility to playing a majority of September without" WR Mike Williams (shoulder).
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Williams suffered a shoulder injury during camp and and although the Chargers have been publicly optimistic about him being ready for Week 1, there are reports that the team is preparing to be without him in September. He led all receivers last year with an 18.1 aDOT as Philip Rivers didn't hesitate to throw it up to him in deep in contested situations. Ordinarily, that would have probably made Williams a sleeper coming into this year, as his two touchdowns from last year were almost certainly due some positive regression. But with Tyrod Taylor replacing Williams, both the deep targets, and the number of targets, are likely to decline, and the Chargers should likely lean on their strong defense and running game. In other words, Williams is only a borderline WR4 this year who you probably won't be able to start with any regularity, even when he returns from injury.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
While the Chargers' passing attack isn't likely to be more proficient with Philip Rivers having departed, there's a chance that Williams could benefit from a quarterback with the ability to extend plays outside the pocket. He somehow scored only two touchdowns last season despite averaging more yards per reception than any qualifying player since DeSean Jackson in 2014.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Preston Williams should return from his mid-season ACL as the Dolphins WR2 and when you're talking about a big-bodied, athletic receiver in an offense that will pass a lot, that's got a fair bit of value. There's no guarantees here but DeVante Parker has shown us the upside that exists in this offense. He's a super late-round gamble with plenty of positive possibilities.Mike Williams had a 50% increase in yardage from 2018 to 2019, finishing as the only WR outside the top 26 to crack 1000 (he finished WR38!) That's what happens when you drop from 10 TDs to 2 TDs and get only 49 receptions. Regression should be indicated but it's very difficult to predict exactly what this offense will look like in 2020. It seems likely Williams will take a back seem to the run game, Keenan Allen and Hunter Henry but he should still have enough volume for fantasy relevant volume if this attack can click under Tyrod Taylor or Justin Herbert.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Did you know that Williams was the No. 39 wide receiver through nine weeks last year? That was despite them having their bye in Week 5, as well as him not being a true starter until Week 3. He was extremely good his rookie year. He's coming off a torn ACL, which isn't an injury that's as detrimental as it used to be, but it may be tough for him to return as the same player in a brand-new offense. The Dolphins defense improved greatly, their run game should be much better, and they'll eventually transition to a rookie quarterback. These are all question marks, but fortunately, Williams is being drafted outside the top 60 wide receivers, similar to the way DeVante Parker was last year. Given their current prices (Williams WR61, Parker WR22), Williams seems like a much better value than Parker this year. Knowing that Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson have opted out, there are plenty of targets up for grabs, making Williams a solid WR4/5 on fantasy teams that you can spot-start depending on matchups. Not many realize that Williams ranked eighth among wide receivers in air yards last year. That's incredible opportunity. Unfortunately, he averaged just 2.0 yards of separation when targeted, which was the lowest number in football. Williams needs a quarterback who's willing to throw it into tight coverage to succeed. We haven't seen Tyrod Taylor play in a little bit, but the last season he was a starter was in 2017. He threw into tight coverage just 15.2 percent of the time, which was the seventh-lowest percentage in the league. In 2016, Taylor's mark was just 14.2 percent, the third-lowest mark in the league. Philip Rivers was at a much higher 17.1 percent last year. Williams is much more reliant on touchdowns to produce than Keenan Allen, which is why you should probably be fading the receiver who struggles with separation, especially now that he's playing with a quarterback who's not aggressive. Rivers has thrown 83 touchdowns in the 48 games since Williams came into the league. Meanwhile, Taylor has thrown 33 touchdown passes in his last 32 starts. Williams should be considered a WR4, at best.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Preston Williams was everyone's favorite sleeper last season and they weren't completely wrong. While his numbers weren't anything special, the talent is there. If he can get one the same page as Tua (assuming he starts), then we could see a very scary WR duo in Miami for the first time in what seems like forever.Mike Williams had one of the strangest seasons a WR could possibly have last year. On only 49 receptions, Williams totaled 1,001 yards. That's over 20 yards per reception. Meanwhile, he caught only two Tds after catching 10 in 2018. He was already a boom or bust player and now he'll have to adjust to a new QB. He's a solid WR4 but can't be trusted on a weekly basis.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Williams greatly exceeded expectations in 2020 before going out with an injury. He'll assume a starting position again in this offense and, as long as he's fully healthy, he should outperform his current ADP. There's some risk currently as we don't know where he's at in his recovery, but I fully expect Williams' ADP to rise as we near the season if everything is on track. While Williams is an extremely talented wide receiver, this offense simply isn't going to have enough targets to go around to make Williams fantasy relevant this year. He'll have some big performances, but predicting which games those are going to be is going to be a nightmare. He's a player that I recommend letting someone else in your league draft.
Seth Miller
Crossroads Fantasy Football
See notes on Parker. Miami ran 3 WR sets over half the time in 2019. And that was with Williams gone half the season, with Albert, and Hurns filling in. Parker and Williams each spent less than 20% of the time in the slot(Gesicki time!). New OC, Chain Galley, has loved 3 WR sets in the past. Preston struggled against Man, Zone, and Press in 2019. Not great, but guess what, he's one of only a few guys in town. Should benefit from that as long as Fitzpatrick is QBDespite seemingly having a down year from 2018 where he "broke out", in the form of TDs, this was actually an even more impressive year. Stayed healthy for the majority of the year and got his first 1000 yard season, was just missing the TDs of 2018. Put the last 2 season together and you get a Vincent Jackson type year. Would be happy to draft as a flex player if the QB situation is okay.

Was a target monster before going down, and now should see significant upgrade at QB. Chan Gailey to MIA also extremely pass-happy
