FantasyPros
Smith has largely been a non-factor in the Saints' passing game over his first two seasons in the league, racking up a 46/661/10 line on 69 targets. The good news is that his big-play ability and breakaway speed give him some dart-throw appeal (10 TDs on just 46 receptions), but the bad news is the arrival of Emmanuel Sanders and improved health of Alvin Kamara should take looks from Smith, who's already struggled to find consistency.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Miles Boykin may be the Ravens's nominal WR2 but in an offense that mostly runs through the run game, the tight ends and Marquise Brown, there's very little left for others. In fact, amazingly, Boykin had only 13 receptions all season. While Boykin should improve in his second season, with the additions of Devin Duvernay and James Proche there's only so much room for growth. The arrival of Emmanuel Sanders in New Orleans appears to put Tre'Quan Smith on the outer but it's not quite as bad as it seems. Ted Ginn was already getting a heap of snaps on the outside so Smith will remain on the field primarily in three wide sets and that will continue to disappoint his fantasy owners. He can be rostered in very deep leagues but his upside is severely capped.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Have the Ravens written him off as a bust? After drafting him in the third round last year, they had him playing behind guys like Seth Roberts and Willie Snead. He played just 27.2 snaps per game and saw just 22 targets his rookie year despite being healthy for all 16 games. He did score three touchdowns on those targets, and outside of Mark Andrews, he's probably the dark horse to lead the team in receiving touchdowns at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. Still, he needs to be on the field for that to happen. My guess would be that he starts on the perimeter opposite Marquise Brown with Roberts gone, so there's some sort of opportunity here. The issue is that they targeted wide receivers just 172 times last year. Even a 15 percent increase (which is a lot) would bring them up to 200 targets. Without an injury, it's going to be difficult for Boykin to see more than 50-60 targets, even as a starter. It seems many have simply forgotten that Smith is still on the roster despite being a third-round pick by the Saints just two years ago. It's fair considering he's seen just 69 targets in that span, but what if Michael Thomas had to miss some time? Smith has averaged a ridiculously high 9.6 yards per target in his first two seasons and can be lined up all over the field. He's also scored a touchdown every 6.9 targets (10 of them on 69 career targets). If you play in a dynasty league and Smith can be had on the cheap, make that move. It's very possible he'd be the top receiver on the team if Thomas were held out, as he has experience in the offense and the Saints have every reason to want him to succeed. Keep him on waiver wire speed dial in redraft leagues.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Boykin plays in the run-heaviest offense in football which isn't all that great considering he's a WR. Until he proves he can be a consistent member of the offense, Boykin should remain on waivers. On paper, Tre'Quan Smith should be a player that's talked about a breakout candidate but in reality, he just doesn't see enough volume to be fantasy relevant. Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara will get most of the targets and whatever doesn't go to them, will go to TE Jared Cook. Smith is a much better best ball player than redraft player.
Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Boykin's going to be a starter in his offense, but he's going to be fourth (at best) on this roster in targets. Marquise Brown, Devin Duvernay, and Mark Andrews are all going to see a significant target share, but Boykin has the raw athleticism to make his targets count. He's likely going to have one or two big games this season, but he's not going to be a consistent fantasy option.Smith's a talented wideout, but he simply hasn't been consistent enough to be useful for fantasy football. With the addition of Emmanuel Sanders, Smith's upside is completely gone in this offense. It's unlikely that we ever see Smith be a weekly contributor in 2020, but he could have some appeal in some matchups for DFS.
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Boykin saw just 22 targets in his rookie season, though that should hardly be viewed as an indictment of his talent. The Ravens' run-heavy approach and positive game script left few targets to go around. Because they ran the ball at such an historic rate last year, the Ravens' natural regression suggests there should be more targets to go around. Boykin should benefit, but with the addition of Devin Duvernay, there's one more mouth to feed in Baltimore. Boykin should improve, but he's unlikely to see enough work to be worth drafting in fantasy leagues.Smith has always felt like an explosion waiting to happen, as evidenced by his 10 touchdowns on just 46 receptions the last two seasons. He may have been a trendy breakout pick with Ted Ginn Jr. gone, but the Saints added Emmanuel Sanders, all but ending Smith's realistic chance for fantasy relevancy. In deeper leagues, he's worth a flier in case Michael Thomas or Sanders sustain injuries. But in standard-sized leagues, there's no reason to bother drafting him.
