FantasyPros
I loved how Chubb closed the season and he should be in the RB1 discussion in 2019. RB Kareem Hunt would be a necessary handcuff for Chubb if Chubb were to go down with injury, but Hunt is suspended the first eight games of the season.Johnson was the victim of having a bad coaching staff and supporting cast, hopefully their offensive system will help utilize his special talents. He is a low-end RB1 that should benefit playing with rookie QB Kyler Murray in a fast paced offense.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Some are worried about Chubb due to the signing of Kareem Hunt this offseason, but you shouldn't be one of them. Hunt has an eight-game suspension that will allow Chubb to run with the job as he did down the stretch last year. The Browns invested a high second-round pick on Chubb and he's done nothing but impress. He's the starter and an RB1 in fantasyNow that Steve Wilks is out of town, maybe we'll get back to the normally scheduled programming with Johnson. The air-raid offense that new coach Kliff Kingsbury figures to bring to the Cardinals should give Johnson a lot more work in the passing game. While at Texas Tech, Kingsbury passed the ball on 65 percent of their plays. By comparison, there were just two teams in the NFL who hit that number in 2018. With Kyler Murray presenting elusiveness, it should only help create lanes for Johnson even if his offensive line is still weak
Brandon Funston
The Athletic
Will any Chubb owner feel peace come Week 10 when K. Hunt is sitting on the sidelines for CLE? Not that Chubb will lose his lead role, but curbing his workload down the stretch to preserve him for a possible playoff run has logic to itAir Raid system of new HC Kingsbury leans heavily to the pass and history of RBs under him is concerning for DJ, but Kingsbury will likely have to conform a bit to NFL and to his team's most dangerous weapon
Kevin Roberts
Breaking Football
Chubb might be the most underrated stud rusher in all of football. Until Kareem Hunt shows up - and perhaps even after - he's going to wow us. Somehow, we can get him at a slight discount despite his mouth-watering upside.DJ has insane upside as one of the most explosive and versatile backs in the NFL. The question is, was last year who he is now and will a new system help or hurt him? He's a 1st rounder, but he comes with risk.
Kevin Wheeler
Draftwize
From Week 8 on last year, Nick Chubb averaged nearly 17 PPR Points per game, making him the RB6 during that time. The Browns should be near the goaline often and Chubb is the guy to punch them in. With Duke gone Chubb is looking at being a true bell-cow for the first eight games, and regardless of Hunt entering the picture he will have the bulk of the workload in his favor through the remainder of the season.Kingsbury himself said Johnson will see an "extensive" role that could involve as many as 35 carries or 10 catches in a given game, which could return DJ to his fantasy glory days of 2016. Last season, he got a touch on 34% of plays, but the Cardinals ranked 31st in plays per game with only 56.4. In 2016, Johnson touched the ball at the same rate for a squad that ranked second with 67.9 plays per game, and the result was a league-leading 373 touches and the best fantasy running back season of the past half-decade. @ChrisRaybon
Dan Harris
FantasyPros
Chubb essentially averaged 20 touches and 100 yards per game once he took over as the starting running back last year, and there's little reason to expect a dip in his performance, at least for the first half of the season. With Duke Johnson now in Texas, Chubb should dominate the running back touches early on, and with Odell Beckham Jr. on board, defenses will need to focus on stopping the pass more. The issue becomes what happens to Chubb in the second half once Kareem Hunt returns from suspension. But for now, that's a lifetime away. Draft Chubb with confidence as an RB1.The Cardinals offense was a disaster last season, and although Johnson saw plenty of work and put up enough fantasy points to be relevant, his production from recent years went down significantly. But all of that should be just a bad memory now, with the addition of Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. Kingsbury's system doesn't focus all that much on passes to running backs, but given Johnson's talent level, he should make up for it elsewhere. Expect an elite season, albeit perhaps one that falls short of his 2016 level.
Michael Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
Nick Chubb was an absolute animal his rookie season. He was the #1 ranked RB on PFF and had the highest elusive rating in the league. He is on a great offense, and with Duke gone, should have a larger role in the passing game.
Jason Petropoulos
BRoto Fantasy
He was a top ranked runner, according to PFF, in multiple different metrics. Most notably, he was the #2 overall RB. The only gripe against Chubb was that he didn't catch passes, but that can certainly change. Duke Johnson is out of Cleveland (not that he was really gonna have a role), Mayfield checked down to RBs almost his entire first preseason drive (grain of salt), and he did have at least 3 catches in four of his last 7 games. Kareem Hunt is also not a concern to me as, after his suspension and the bye, he won't be back until week 10. By then, Chubb will have impressed enough to maintain his role.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
While Carlos Hyde was the lead back in Cleveland, they made him a workhorse then Chubb took over and saw 18.6 carries per game over the next 9 contests. It seems clear that he will be a 20 touch per game weapon for fantasy owners this year and should find his way into the end zone more often in what will be a much improved offense. Now that Melvin Gordon is claiming he will hold out, Johnson is the clear RB5 and will most likely be the 5th pick off the board in most drafts ahead of Hopkins. He was not as good last year, in part because of the offensive line but primarily because the Cardinals ran so few plays. That should change this year under Kingsbury so don't hesitate because of his numbers last season.
Kyle Yates
The Fantasy Footballers
David Johnson fell into fantasy football hell last season with Mike McCoy as the OC in Arizona. Now, Kliff Kingsbury is in town with Kyler Murray and DJ is going to be leaned on heavily in this offense. The running lanes should be there with defenses regularly on their heels and DJ is going to soak up targets in this pass heavy offense. It simply comes down a question of Touchdowns...is this offense going to be explosive enough in year one with a rookie QB that David Johnson will get the scoring opportunities needed to be a top-tier RB? If you believe the answer is yes, then you should be all in on DJ at his ADP.
Nick Zylak
Fantasy Football Advice
Let others make the mistake of passing on Chubb. He was PFF's #2 rated RB last season, ranked first in elusiveness rating, and is on what should be an elite scoring offense this season. Chubb averaged 16.6 half ppr points per game over the final 8 weeks last season, as he displayed his TD upside with 7 TD's over that span. 18 TD's is well within his range of outcomes this season as he's the clear goal line option. Nick Chubb is already one of the best RB's in the league, and there's no way teams will be able to stack the box against him. Kareem Hunt is a good RB, but I have no concern drafting Chubb. You're going to get top 5 overall production over the first 8 weeks of the season, and while he'll see less workload when Hunt returns, he'll still be an elite option in the offense. I wouldn't hesitate for even a second in drafting Chubb this seasonI have a higher ranking and projection on DJ than most people do. My argument is simple, last season was the absolute worst case scenerio for DJ. His team struggled to score TD's, his QB played terrible, and his offensive coordinator was pathetic at play calling. Despite all of this...he was able to finish as the RB 10 in half PPR leagues. This season the offense should take a complete 180. They have a new head coach in Kliff Kingsbury that wants to lead the league in plays run, and they have the first overall pick in Kyler Murray, who's a massive upgrade from Josh Rosen. In 2018 the Cardinals were dead last with just 14.1 points per game, and they ran the second fewest plays per game. At the very least, they are going to improve apon thos numbers...and that's great news for DJ. I cannot stress enough how massive of a boost it would be going from just 56 plays per game, up to 70 per game. Not to mention the fact that they might actually be in the red zone for a few of those plays. Draft DJ with confidence.
