Kyle Yates
FantasyPros
Mostert is expected to be the lead back in this offense as long as he's healthy, but that's not exactly a guarantee. Mostert's only played a total of 31 games over the past three seasons and the 49ers know that they can't rely on him to start all 16 games. With the drafting of Sermon, the 49ers are signaling that Mostert's best fantasy days are behind him. To start the season, Mostert could produce some solid numbers for your lineup, but it seems inevitable that he's going to give up the starting job to the rookie RB eventually. If you do end up drafting Mostert, it's probably best to double back and snag Sermon to handcuff this backfield.Fantasy managers were feeling pretty good about Melvin Gordon heading into 2021 after Phillip Lindsay's departure, but that all came quickly crashing back down with the drafting of Javonte Williams. This season, it's likely that Gordon is still the lead back, but Williams is certainly going to see some work. This situation could end up being very similar to Baltimore's from last year with Mark Ingram and JK Dobbins, which doesn't exactly bode well for Gordon's season-long outlook. In my opinion, drafting Gordon as anything more than a low-end RB2 is a recipe for disaster. My Very Early Projection: 200-960-6 rushing & 27-174-1 receiving.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There's no denying it... when Mostert is healthy and on the field, he's a beast. He's turned 282 career carries into 1,590 yards and 11 touchdowns. But that's the issue, he's never healthy. There's a reason he's 29 years old and has just 282 carries on his frame. Have the 49ers lost patience? They traded up to draft Trey Sermon in the third round, which could indicate they're ready to move on from Mostert, or it could be them ensuring they have a high-quality backup for if/when he gets injured. Mostert tallied at least 14 carries in 5-of-8 starts last year, which is more than enough to get into RB2 territory with his efficiency, but you can't draft him as such when injuries/Sermon are factored in. He's not someone you can confidently draft as a starter for your fantasy team because there's so much unknown. However, if he gets the job back, this is a pick that can make a difference in fantasy leagues. The 49ers have one of the easiest schedules in the league, so if they let Mostert get rolling, he's unlikely to slow down. When the Broncos signed Gordon to a two-year, $16 million contract, you had to assume they were going to use him in a big role. That's not quite what happened, as they continually wanted to involve Phillip Lindsay. After letting him walk in free agency, they snagged Mike Boone, which was a downgrade from Lindsay. Okay... but that wasn't it. They drafted Javonte Williams at the top of the second round, a running back who'll certainly compete for touches immediately. Gordon isn't going to simply go away making the money he is, but he's also not likely going to get the 16.5 touches per game he was in 2020. There's also a possible suspension coming Gordon's way for a DUI incident last year, which needs to be factored into his fantasy stock. He's not someone you should be relying on for anything more than RB3/flex production.
Kevin Wheeler
The Draft Zone
Mostert is one of the most explosive runners in the NFL and a slept on 4.34 speedster. His new competition is a 3rd round rookie with 4.58 speed. He feels like one of the most fragile players in the NFL in my opinion, I've been avoiding him in drafts, he's the kind of back that I revesrve for DFS rosters.Gordon will most likely dominate the receptions, two-minute offense, and goaline touches at RB for the first half of the season. When Gordon starts to break-down Javonte Williams should seamlessly start to take-over.
Mark Ringo
Sleepers and Busts
Gordon's days in Denver seem to be numbered. The old regime signed him in free agency. They're gone now. The Broncos drafted Javonte Williams. At best Gordon is in a RBBC on a shaky offense. The best thing that could happened would be him getting traded or cut and going to a better team where he could be a three down RB once again. If that doesn't happen, I don't see much upside here. Avoid
Wolf of Roto Street
Roto Street Journal
Trey Sermon's addition has his starting role in serious jeopardy, but Mostert has always balled when offered the opportunityUpdate - the Broncos TRADED UP to get Javonte Williams, and MGIII is on his last year. Williams will take over this backfield sooner than later, and Shurmur prefers a workhorse so MGIII might be meaningless by 2021's end
Joe Pisapia
FantasyPros
Raheem Mostert will probably never reach his 2019 season peak. He was more of a back that was in the right system at the right time and there's plenty of competition in house with Wayne Gallman, Trey Sermon and eventually Jeffrey Wilson Jr. As a fantasy investment, Mostert has more questions than answers and that makes him limited in his fantasy upside. There are better picks at similar ADP at the position.
Derek Lofland
FantasyPros
Gordon had a solid year with 182.4 considering all the injuries and bad quarterback play the Broncos had this year. Gordon is going to lose touches to Javonte Williams, but Gordon should still be a flex option.
