Win My Fantasy League
Not enough targets for three fantasy relevant receivers in Tennessee and we are siding with Corey Davis and Taywan TaylorLee is a presumed starter across from Moncrief but is feeling heat from the youngsters behind him and a good old bug named injury
Andrew Gould
FantasyPros
Matthews never gets the attention he deserves despite averaging 6.5 targets and 58 yards per game in two seasons with the Titans. He solidified a WR37 season despite missing two games and posting four TDs after 2016's career-high nine. Among the league leaders in average cushion (seven yards), he remains Marcus Mariota's steadiest downfield threat. A mysterious injury sunk his stock, but he has since signed an extension and returned from the PUP list. In a season bookended by no-catch games, Lee led the Jaguars in targets (96) and receptions (56) despite missing an additional two games. He carries a WR50 ADP following WR41 and 42 finishes, so drafters need not pay for a true breakout. Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook are too raw to truly threaten Lee's volume as Jacksonville's primary wideout, so take the steady value before buying a lottery ticket on one of his teammates.
Bobby Sylvester
FantasyPros
Matthews will likely going to take a step back this season with the expected emergence of Corey Davis, Taywan Taylor and the arrival of DIon Lewis. With that said, he was a top 36 receiver each of the past two seasons so it isn't like he will drop all the way out of fantasy relevance suddenly. Lee was consistent last season, posting 45 or more yards in all but two starts. The touchdowns weren't there, but if he continues to see plenty of targets, you can bet on those increasing as well. The issue, however, will be all the new faces he has to share targets with.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
Despite Marcus Mariota getting hurt in 2016 and struggling through much of 2017, Matthews remained consistent in his production, hauling in 61 percent of his passes for 14.5 and 15.0 yards per reception in each year. The area his production dipped, though, was targets and touchdowns. With Corey Davis slated for a bigger role in 2018, you should expect that decline to continue, though Matthews won't go away, as he's been extremely efficient with his targets. He's comparable to the Titans version of DeSean Jackson. Most don't seem to know that despite missing two games in 2017 that Lee ranks 27th in targets among wide receivers over the last two years. Keep in mind that Allen Robinson was healthy and played the entire 2016 season, so this is noteworthy. The Jaguars let Robinson walk, but retained Lee on a four-year, $34 million contract, which wasn't far off what Robinson got with the Bears. I he stays healthy, he's locked into 100-plus targets, which is why he should be considered a borderline WR3 with some upside if Blake Bortles continues to improve like he did towards the end of last year.
Staff Rankings
QB List
On our sister site Pitcherlist.com, we have a nickname for a pitcher that comes up to the majors and is wholly unspectacular: A Cup of Schmo. If ever there was such a thing in the NFL, it would be Rishard Matthews. Playing within a run-first Tennessee offense, Matthews is consistently ok, never extraordinary, and my bet is he will continue to do so even with an improved Mariota. Have fun!Jaguars "#1" receiver, Lee had a rebound year last year, playing 14 of 16 games, almost double his previous season high of 8. With a modest target share, Lee managed 56 receptions, 702 yards, though a measly 3 TD's capped his value. Somewhat surprisingly, that WR room is CHOCK FULL of talent with the likes of Dede Westbrook, Dante Moncrief, Keelan Cole, and D.J Chark behind Lee. I'm extremely skeptical Lee will maintain a true WR #1 target share given how many mouths there are to feed and how inefficient Bortles has shown himself to be, but at only WR #40, he should return requisite value with the chance of much more.
Kevin Wheeler
NFL Mock
Last year, Lee was fantasy's WR29 in Weeks 1-14 before bum foot/ankle harpooned season. Saw 7.4 targets per game, 22nd among WRs. Was 28th in YPG (54.0). Easily led JAX in share of targets (23%), air yards (35%). @GrahamBarfield Marqise Lee looks like a nice value. 9th round ADP, paced 110 targets last year, he should lead JAX again, projects for Top 30 finish with only 6TDs. May have similar targets as Juju and can be drafted 5 rounds later. @ClutchFantasy
