Zachary Hanshew
FantasyPros
After four seasons with Gang Green as one of the team's top options, Anderson joins a Panthers team with a lot of mouths to feed. The deep-threat receiver has totaled 18 touchdowns over the last three seasons, while averaging 15 yards per reception. He can still be a fantasy-relevant contributor in 2020, though his week-to-week consistency will likely take a hit.
Draft Engine
Draft Engine
Samuel failed to surpass five receptions in any game last season, and a 91-yard effort in Week 2 marked the only time he eclipsed 70 receiving yards. With Carolina signing Robby Anderson in March to a two-year, 20 million contract, it's no guarantee that Samuel remains the third option in the Panthers' passing game behind Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore.Anderson is one of only three NFL players along with Mike Evans and Kenny Golladay to rank among the league's top 20 wideouts in yards per reception while catching 50 or more passes in each of the past two seasons. With new Carolina quarterback Teddy Bridgewater having been more of a dink-and-dunk specialist in recent years, expect Anderson's 2020 output to lack consistency.
Ben Wasley
The Fantasy First Down
Curtis Samuel was everyone's favorite breakout prospect last season and although he didn't reach the lofty expectations some had for him, a WR36 finish was still solid for a player with a limited skill set. With the addition of Robby Anderson, Samuel's target share is in for a major reduction and the talk he may be on the trade block is an even worse sign. While the Panthers will have to throw a lot, Samuel is at best the 4th receiver in this offense and that limits his upside. It's hard to see exactly how Robby Anderson will fit into the Panthers offense, but it's fair to say he'll provide more real-life benefit than fantasy benefit. With Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore sucking in 130+ targets each and Curtis Samuel and Ian Thomas sucking up 160+ between them, Anderson will need the Panthers to throw a lot to get a useful amount of targets. Luckily, the Panthers look like they'll be awful this year and that could mean massive passing volume. It'll be more efficient with Teddy Bridgewater at the controls too. It fair to assume Anderson can manage 900-odd yards with half a dozen TDs and that would be good enough for a cusp WR3. That's nothing special but he's the kind of guy that needs to be drafted in every league, even though you're never excited to draft him.
Mike Tagliere
FantasyPros
There are a lot of analysts making excuses for Samuel's poor production last year, stating that his quarterback play was atrocious. While I don't disagree, there are plenty of wide receivers who've had bad quarterback play but managed to be useful. Samuel's 0.96 yards per route run in 2019 ranked dead last among the 157 wide receivers with at least 100 targets over the last five years. Heck, his teammate D.J. Moore was able to finish as the WR18. Based on the targets Samuel received and where they took place, he should have finished as the WR16. Look, I'm not saying Samuel is as bad as he was in 2019, but for him to become a reliable fantasy player, he'd have to overcome the fact that he's now the fourth-best target in the offense, behind McCaffrey, Moore, and Anderson. The Panthers also tried shopping Samuel this offseason, but ultimately held onto him. He's someone to look at during bye weeks when the Panthers are double-digit underdogs. Outside of that, you're just looking for an injury to him to become anything more than a WR5-type option.Switching teams as a wide receiver this offseason seems... less than ideal. It does help, however, when there's a new quarterback on that team, as well as a coach you've played for in the past. Matt Rhule was the coach while Anderson was at Temple back in 2015. The issue is that Bridgewater's strengths don't really align with Anderson's. Bridgewater threw the ball 20-plus yards just 7.1 percent of the time last year, which ranked second lowest in the league. Anderson's skill set just doesn't align with Bridgewater's strengths as a passer, though they may try to force the issue after spending $20 million over two years on Anderson. Not having an offseason to build rapport makes me a bit more concerned, especially knowing we've seen Anderson's effort level best described as "inconsistent" on the field. It's tough to say he'll be a better fantasy option than he was in New York, only now his asking price is much lower. Being taken outside the top 50 wide receivers is a discount worth taking in best-ball leagues, but in redraft, it's tough to say he'll be a consistent contributor. He's the third option, at best.
Elliot Berkovits
Packer Report
Leading up to the 2019 season, all anyone wanted to talk about was Curtis Samuel and how he would be the WR to own in Carolina. Well, that didn't exactly work out. It was D.J. Moore who stole the spotlight and now the Panthers went out and signed deep threat Robby Anderson. I like Samuel as a talent but I don't think there will be enough targets to go around to make him a reliable weekly starter. After four long years on the Jets, Anderson gets a fresh start in Carolina where he'll catch passes from Teddy Bridgewater. While some may consider Bridgewater an upgrade over Sam Darnold, I don't think he's the best QB for a WR like Anderson. Anderson is known for being a deep threat and Bridgewater has never been known as a QB who goes deep. That could lead to some down weeks but he'll definitely have his big games as well. I'd stash him and use him in favorable, likely high scoring matchups.

Anderson has plenty of talent and has been the victim of erratic quarterback play throughout his career with the Jets. Reuniting with his college coach, Matt Rhule, is a positive development, but it's difficult to see him being start-worthy at any point this season. Between Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel, and Ian Thomas, there just aren't going to be enough targets to make Anderson viable, especially given that because he's mostly a deep threat, he's inherently a boom-or-bust play. Add in that Teddy Bridgewater isn't the type of quarterback who will play recklessly and things just don't look like they'll fall into place for Anderson in 2020.

Samuel's got the talent to be a factor for fantasy football, but it simply hasn't translated to on-the-field production. Now, Samuel has competition for targets with Robby Anderson in town and there's a chance that Samuel is fourth on this team in targets. With that being the case, Samuel's unlikely to return consistent fantasy production this season.Anderson's struggled the past few seasons in New York, but he's getting a change of scenery with his signing with the Carolina Panthers. Anderson has familiarity with head coach Matt Rhule, which will only help in a truncated offseason. The Panthers are most likely going to be throwing the ball a ton this season and Anderson's going to see plenty of targets heading his way. Anderson's one of my candidates to breakout this season and he's currently being drafted outside the top-50 WRs.

If I told you this WR had 108/1236/11 would you be interested? Now what if I told you that was in 3 years? Has trended upwards for 3 years in a row. Deep targets were infamously inaccurate last year. That made him rather terrible for fantasy football. He was miscast, running a 9 route over 1/4 of the time That situation has now been rectified with the addition of Robby Anderson. I think Samuel's chances at fading into a WR3 forever are just as likely as some kind of breakout. Most players don't have a Devante Parker like resurgence after years of being mediocre. They turn into Phillip Dorsett, an 83rd percentile sparq-x athlete who had greater college production and breakout age than Samuel, while also being a 4.3 guy we just can't let go of. However, I went back to watch all his deep incomplete passes myself for 2019. The majority were inaccurate. Sometimes the QB had to release the ball early because of the rush. Others, Samuel was out positioned, or not big enough to go up and get it. He also some just flat drops, but all of those happening were in the minority of what was happening on his deep looks. Fighting for targets underneath with DJ Moore will be no easier than trying to catch deep passes from Kyle Allen, but he'll at least have more accurate balls coming from Teddy Bridgewater, while having great, to elite numbers against man coverage 2 years in a row to give himself a great opportunity in this new offense. Not sure why the signing is confusing for some. Did you expect everyone to just run underneath and be completely predictable? Awaiting fantasy judgement until we see what Rhule is about.

After Cam Newton was injured, Panthers WRs saw a catchable deep ball on only 25% of targets (14/56), via PFF. During Teddy Bridgewater's five starts, Saints WRs saw catchable deep balls on 62% of targets (8/13). @pat_thormanRobby Anderson had four avoided tackles and 3.5 YAC/reception on 52 catches in 2019.

Joe Brady preaches speed and getting it in space... and Curtis Samuel might just be the perfect man for the job. Back aboard the hype train, even with Robby A added. While the Panthers have a crowded WR corps, Anderson could thrive in a system that prioritizes "SPEED in space"
